All I can suggest is if you're in fashion communities then try to find fashion that isn't 50s and post and share it? Like people aren't going to automatically put up fashion you want to see, so if the community is obsessed with one style then YOU need to be responsible for bringing in other ones. Just complaining about it won't do anything.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-14 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Complaining" about the predominance of IRL 50's fatshion labels? It's so hard finding the other stuff (for young fat women), and designers need some other inspiration. Fashion schools are usually SO hostile to fatshion, it's kinda a miracle there's any fatshion at all. So the designers often don't have a lot of imagery and precedence to work with. Cue more rockabilly.

Isn't this a response to about half the secrets out there? Maybe OP *is* doing something about it, and even if they're not, why can't they just voice their opinion about it :?

It's not a matter of 'I wish the communities I frequent would feature people in different kinds of clothes' so much as it is 'I wish clothing manufacturers and designers would actually make a different kind of product'. It's hard to dress in and request pics of something that literally doesn't exist.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-13 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Why, though? It's an awesome aesthetic for accentuating curves, it's classy, and the colors/patterns are adorable.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-13 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Women only have value if they can look attractive and be a fap object, amirite.

I didn't even know this was a thing. :(

I'm a little heavier lately, and I would probably fit that dress perfectly. But I don't think I could feel comfortable wearing it. Accentuating the parts of my body that I'm most selfconscious about?

Um, no.

So yeah, heavier fashions with variety would be cool. But I'm so out of the know, I didn't even know this was a thing!

I think that is so because that was the last decade where clothes were super tailored. And tailoring makes all the difference when you are plus size. These days, modern plus sized fashion consists of pillow cases with holes trying to pass themselves off as shirts and dresses.

So, unless someone is willing to make plus size modern fashions that are tailored to the wearer, people have to look at the throw backs to get their fix.

It's mainly in the makeup, styling and accessories, though. The dresses themselves are less 50s.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-13 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
HOW IS THIS FANDOM? Is this Fashion!Secrets too now?

That being said, I agree it's probably because of the tailoring. I'm overweight and I think a lot of the flowy, loose stuff that's popular today just makes me look fatter.

Aside from that, I like both styles.

I don't care for those fashions either. :/ People can wear whatever, but I understand the sentiment that it does get boring seeing many plus size stuff that's popular is in only those styles.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-13 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
What? But the women in that picture is not even fat. She's perfectly normal and curvy. Is that really what people nowadays call "fat"?

Fat, for me, is when someone has so much body fat that they've lost all shape and are just really big and round.

I wish "fat" fashion wouldn't use corsets and shapers all the time or favor women who have fat everywhere except their bellies :P

It's easy to look conventionally sexy when your figure is still shaped like an 8. People like women who have tits and ass and round thighs and no or only light cellulite? What news!

[Picture is a woman with brown-reddish long hair and a pink sleeveless dress. She has lightly tanned skin and is wearing a black fascinator in the shape of a fluffy flower and a black handkerchief around her neck. She is wearing black high-heeled shoes, with little holes on the toes. She is a little chubby, with pronounced curves on her hips and chest.]

I wish fat fashion wasn't so focused on fifties rockability and pin up styles.

...It's not though?

I mean, I'm fat and I don't see that much 50s clothing when I got shopping.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-14 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I just wish someone would remember that not all fat women have large breasts. My actual bra size is 40A, but I have to settle for 38B because no one fucking makes 40A at all. Even that's hard to find unless I really hunt. All shirts that fit in the shoulders/stomach are baggy at the chest, and everything sleeveless needs the straps taken in several inches.
