5. Fandom needs less excessive lead female hate.

12. That part in the manga really showed a good side to his character... he's one of the few side characters in Naruto that I actually LIKE and feel is deserving of his screentime.

16. Paper just looks cool. Just because your opinion differs and she hasn't been developed yet, doesn't make her a Mary Sue... just mysterious. D:

Exactly what I am saying! If he'd been the calm cool and calculating guy he always was, then he'd be a real machine.

He was angry, he had major vendettas, it showed that he was HUMAN. That he actually gave a crap instead of his constant "ZOMGSOTROUBLESUM."

I'm really not trying to get into an argument with you, so please don't take it this way, but...

Is it really Sei-chan's fault?

I mean, if you hate him for doing as she wished for, fine, but if anything, Hokuto's the one that split them up. She consciously made the choice.

Re: 28

(Anonymous) 2007-10-02 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I have sometimes debated with myself about that, but for right now, my feeling is that if she hadn't done that, Seishirou would have come back for Subaru and split them up anyway.

Also, considering the state Subaru was in afterwards, I think they were really separated the second he remembered his bet with Seishirou. Hokuto just gave up her place in the land of the living for him.

I admit a certain hatred for Lyra, who struck me as such a brat that I never made it past the first book of HDM. I don't have any desire to touch Eragon or Twilight with a ten-foot pole.

But John Mandrake's brooding angst and wild-eyed stare (and better yet, Bartimaeus' LOLing at any and all of J's woe) pwns Harry Potter's capslock abusing ass.

1. FUCK YES YOU ARE THE BEST MOVIE EVER.

7. Is it lonely up there on your pedestal? I love me some HP, don't get me wrong, but they're all young adult books. Granted, the only one I've read out of all of those is Twilight (and I love it! *ducks garbage*), so I can't really give an opinion on them... but wow. In about ten years, another series as big as HP will come along, and I bet you'll latch onto that one too.

8. I can't use the dub names because I see Usagi and Serena as two completely different people. But it's not too late to get into the fandom! Almost all of the kids have abandoned it for more ~*hardcore*~ anime like Naruto or Bleach, so it's not a bad fandom to be in. I missed the golden age, but I spent it all doing bad AOL RPs, haha.

35. When I saw that episode, I thought, "Well, poo. There goes my theory that Terra II will show up. >:" But yes, totally agreed. I just don't feel like there was enough closure on the Terra issue.

I had a substitute teacher who laughed EXACTLY like Betty, and I always looked forward to seeing him teach. That show made me laugh so hard when I was younger, and it was how I met a lot of friends in high school (weird/sad?). I will have to go watch it again simply because this reminded me that I love it.

Oh, and 12 and 16

[identity profile] jazz-glass.livejournal.com 2007-10-02 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not that big on any Akatsuki members. I like Konan, so far, though. Some of the guys in Akatsuki haven't gotten much (or any) of a background or personality, and they still have droves of fangirls.

And there's no way you could get me to hate Shikamaru. He would have to kill Lee or...some babies to be on my bad side, and even then I'd have to keep in mind the circumstances. They're fuckin' NINJA. Death happens.

[identity profile] killcity.livejournal.com 2007-10-02 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
10. FUCK YES

[identity profile] avianthropy.livejournal.com 2007-10-02 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't completely agree, but I can totally see why you feel that way. Whether or not the books really are better than Harry Potter, telling that to someone who's a fan of HP in order to get them to read your favorite books is just... bad marketing. And not just because it's annoying, but because comparisons like that tell nothing. Saying things like the story, characters, and writing are better than Harry Potter's doesn't mean much if you don't even say what the story is or the characters are like themselves.

If the books are as good as you say they are, talk about them in their own right, and maybe the person you're trying to get interested will become curious despite themselves. That's how I got over not wanting to watch anime other than Sailor Moon and Pokemon: after nothing but claim upon claim that they were "better than Sailor Moon," I finally heard what Rayearth and Utena were about.

10 - It was the first anime I ever watched. xD I'll always love it (at least, seasons 1 and 2).

First of all, I'm gonna lay some ground by saying that I am a Christian, so my point of view will be biased (so-to-speak) in the sense that I feel spirituality is something that exists and is a part of every body's lives. God is Truth, and Christ is my Savior. You've probably heard this drill before. Secondly, I'm assuming that when you call yourself an atheist, you do so under the comprehension that any form of supernatural power or higher being is non-existent, and that you're not just someone who says "I don't believe in God."

(feel free to kick me if I'm completely wrong, of course)

I think that if we were to strip away the religious context of the movie, The Prince of Egypt, the ideas and values that the film makers were trying to express was that faith in general is possible to have or achieve, even in desperate situations. Not necessarily in a higher power, but in ourselves or in each other. When Ramses didn't have faith in himself, Moses stood by his side, supporting him. When Moses didn't think he'd be able to lead the Hebrews, his sister, Mirim, had faith in him. And with the song "There can be miracles when you believe," the notion of believing in one's self or in other's is enforced, strengthening that core value of anything is possible if you believe hard enough.

The same can be said for many myths or stories from other faiths. The stories may be different, but the messages are still there. The reason stories like The Prince of Egypt or other Biblical stories are shown in such epic manners is because, I believe, they strike a deeper cord with the human spirit. The underlying messages of freedom, faith, or whatever you felt you gained from that particular passage never change and are values that all people embrace.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to enjoy and even sometimes reach for that faith, whether it be religious or not. Trying to deny faith is like trying to deny part of your own human nature, and that's not something that can be done. Nobody is saying you have to believe anything in particular; you have to find the answers for yourself. But I think if you feel you are needing something to believe in, you already know the answer.

And now I'm going to bed before I pass out. Thinking this late at night when I haven't done my Intercultural homework yet is not good for me. x_X

Hopefully what I said made sense without offending too many people...

I agree with you so hard on this one. That's why I adore the song. You don't have to have religious context for it to have loads of value.

Though after that...yeah. Still agreein' about the song and stuff. :p

1. YES. I was fucking THRILLED when someone gave this for me as a gift one year. SO AWESOME.

18. I love this movie. While it doesn't do anything for me faith-wise, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the music and the animation for itself. The first song (and "When You Believe") make me cry. And "With Heaven's Eyes" makes me wanna dance. :D :D :D

16. FUCK YOU for the Konan hate :) She looks like she'll be the only female in Naruto who does something... other than Temari.

Re: 16

[identity profile] the-lady-lamb.livejournal.com 2007-10-02 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Um.

And Tayuya.

(You might also note that Temari and Tayuya are not big characters, either.)

Oh, and last time I remember, Ino was psychic and Sakura and Tsunade had super strength.

So they're pretty cool.

For cheerleaders.

All I'm saying is that Kishimoto - great artist he is - has a serious base in mysogyny. And I don't really have enough faith in him to believe that Konan is going to turn out any different. I'm not hating on her - I'm being realistic. :|

If she does, she's probably a guy.

Sadly.

Although my own story will never be written down (lack the talent), I'd love to have a fandom for it. C'mon, watching the pairing wars would be frickin' hilarious! And the crazy theories, and the crappy fics, and the general fanwank... Meanwhile, you lurk on the site, sipping a martini and laughing your fool ass off. It would be glorious. 8D

L-lame. Totally lame.

GUESS WHAT I'M DOWNLOADING RIGHT NOW OH MY GOD. I love Digimon so much. When I was a kid I used to like make reference books out of the digimon and draw pictures of all of them and make up awful insert mary-sues and asdfghjkl; ♥

I love how half the Okami secrets on here are about how it's made peoples lives better and stuff :) I wanna go play it now...

10,12, 18, 20, 35

[identity profile] mistressofrobin.livejournal.com 2007-10-02 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
10) I still love Digimon! The characters as a whole were great, even though individually I didn't like all of them.
12) Thank you. Seriously. I'm not a Shikamaru fan much, but not becasue he defeated Hidan and Kakuzu. I don't see what the big deal is about those two and why it's so wrong he killed them the way he did. Probably should've paid more attention to that arc than I did, but after a while it dragged on too long and got boring.
18) I find this secret heartwarming, regardless of our differences in faith.
20) Why should wanting to watch Static again be sad? It was a fun show.
35) Oh. Oh man, that episode made me want to cry. There is the possibility the TTG! comic can touch upon it, though, since it's still running.

Blah, can't think of good responses today. X.x;;
