I completely agree with you there. I've loved that show since I was about 13/14. I'm 21 now and it's still in my top favorites ever. I will still go back and watch it all the time. Digimon will always be part me <3 (omg that sounds so dorky but I don't particularly care)

Hello, you appear to be me. :D Same. Oh, to be 13 and getting up early every morning to watch Ken and Daisuke be awkward at each other... ♥

34. I actually kind of wish she'd died, not so much because I dislike her (because I don't), but because Nick had already been near-death and survived, so it seemed pretty weird for it to happen again, and I wasn't really liking the romance dynamic between her and Grissom, and if she'd died, it would have made for SUCH GOOD plot and Grissom, in all of his scientific thinking, could still see visions of her from time to time and be totally devastated over it, and jhsdkfl it would have been awesome 8D

But hey, I understand the attachment to a character too, and wanting them to live. :/ <3

14 - I notice I'm like that now as well. For the fandoms I get into, the majority of the pairings I like are the ones that aren't popular or are obscure.

15 - I've done things like that at times (though not using the references you use) to characterize/define the characters. I like being able to organize them... it's also a fun way to waste time.

18 - I LOVE THAT SONG!!! And I know how you feel. I'm not really religious but watching that movie and listening to that song makes me wish I was.

19 - Ouch.

24 - Yeah, I think the rabid fangirls and slashing would be inevitable... y'know, if it became really popular

37 - Image

38 - That's sweet!

OP of #37 here. I'm curious as to how, exactly, it's unreasonable of me to expect people to have at least some firsthand knowledge of series canon before they dive headfirst into my or any fandom and start flinging their fic around. I--no, wait, let's try this another way.

I've seen precisely no episodes of Bleach, but I know what the story's about, and I've read the wiki article and seen a lot of screenshots and icons and some really hot smutty fanart, and I've read all the posts on it in this community. Also, I know some people on my friendslist really like it and I trust their taste. I think Orihime is really pretty and the boys are all totally hot. I certainly feel like I know the canon never mind that I've got absolutely no firsthand acquaintance with it whatsoever.

Would you like to read my Bleach fanfic?

.. You must be slightly retarded to put Philip Pullman in the same secret as the .. freaking authors of Eragon and Twilight. And Jonathan Stroud is leaps and bounds more brilliant than the Eragon dude.

Eragon is pretty cliche and terrible, but likable.

But His Dark Materials is a classic series for a reason. And Jonathan Stroud is an excellent comic writer; he practically embodies tongue in cheek, and his writing is smart.

Better than Harry Potter? Who cares. Besides - on what basis are you comparing them? Style? Content? Characters? What? An off the cuff remark about "which is better" doesn't take into consideration the different levels these authors are working in. If you haven't read any of them, give them a chance. I hate the "X > HARRY POTTER BLAH BLAH" argument - it's just dumb and I don't like it. The works are just plain different, not any better or worse than the other.

.. although Eragon remains just plain terrible. Paolini WISHES he was Tolkien. And I can't speak for Twilight, but eh.

(This is coming from a huge, huge, huge Harry Potter fan, by the way.)

1. Never heard of that movie, but after the quote-off in the beginning comments of this post, I kind of want to. XD What's the actual title?

5. ... I thought the lead female in FMA was Winry or something. ;;;

7. I think you could have had a point, but then the asshattery ate it. :/ (Fan of BOTH Harry Potter and His Dark Materials and damn proud of it. Dunno about the other ones, I don't have much time to read these days. ):)

10. Been loving that show for years and years, will never stop loving it. :DD I still squee when marathons of the old seasons randomly show up on various channels. XDD

12. ... Oh god seriously. The recent hostility over the Shikamaru-centric arc is just... urgh. I love Hidan and Kakuzu as much as anyone, but the fangirls kind of scare me. ;;

14. Heeeee well I don't know about 'elitist' being defined as 'liking crack pairings'. I'm an elitist and I like crack!pairings (Oishi/Shishido and Atobe/Gakuto ohohoho \o/), but apples is not equal to oranges is not equal to grapes, if you get me. 8D/ *phails at being coherent*

25. .... Aww, Sakuno. She's so darn cute, and not deserving of the pan!girl hate that afflicts fandom. :/

32. ... I loved that movie so, so much. XD Just because it was so... outside the box/thinking at the time, I'unno. But I can see how that might be creepy. 8D

36. I kind of like her music. >>; In small doses. It brings back memories. But she's like the Dixie Chicks. Everything starts sounding the same after a while IT'S SO DULL. ):

38. Good for you! If only it could do that for me and my mom. :/ I still want to play that game now, though.

7. That's totally your choice, and I'm sure the fans won't miss you, but that is really weird logic. You won't read something... because some people think it's better than your favouritest of favourite books? Not reading a book because people like it? That's a new one.

24. :D That's one of the things I'm most looking forward to seeing, if any of my original work gets published. I love crazy fandoms.

25. WORD. I don't particularly dislike her or her obnoxious friend, but they really don't have any use whatsoever in the series other than to cheer Ryoma on, and they could both easily be replaced. Sakuno was just shoved into the story so Ryoma would have the possibility of a female love interest.

Ahaha, I'm about to pop my stitches laughing. I hope you're including Harry Potter under the "riddled with cliche" umbrella, if you're going to toss the others under that same list. ESPECIALLY if you haven't read them.

(And I HATE Twilight, so I'm not acting out in those books' defense or whatever)

2. LOL @ "is the shiz"

5. God. I know of like 50 people like that online. All girls. It's just so completely obvious that they're jealous of all of them.

7. See, the problem with secrets that say "deal with it" is it's an oxymoron. YOU are the one saying you have a problem reading / a problem with the other books. Therefore, you are the one who needs to deal with it.

18. You could still get a strong faith back. You could believe again one day. Something could just happen and then, you know, BAM, life changing. It wouldn't have to be Catholicism either. I've lost faith more than once and I've always come back through something that I really believe was a sign. I know what you're saying, though. It's hard when you see / hear something that makes you want to believe in something, but you just don't.

32. Wasn't a secret exactly like this up just a few days ago? Or am I dreaming?

34. Question. Are you lesbian/bi? I'm really asking. Seriously. Because it seems like every single person I've ever met that's into her is one of the 2, and a woman.

36. Hell, I'll admit it. She's an amazing singer. It's not her fault that radio stations and certain individuals have made the whole world sick of her. I'd love to see her Vegas show.

34 OP

(Anonymous) 2007-10-02 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm bi. But it's not that I find her attractive. I just think she's completely underappreciated. She's not your typical female, and that's what I find appealing about her.

7: I'm kind of irritated at how HP is becoming the "comparing standard" for all children's fantasy lit now. I read HDM light-years before HP (well, okay, a couple years anyway) and I greatly enjoyed it (though I will say that once Will showed up, I felt the whole series improved tenfold. Iorek is one of my favorite characters but GC was kind of dull compared to SK and AS). But I was bored senseless by Eragon, Twilight's fandom alone has scared me off, and I haven't even gotten to Stroud yet as I've been uh..... frantically rereading all of my Animorphs books.

30. I'm going to pretend this secret is about me. ; ; Sounds like something I would do. I still ship characters I wrote in sixth grade, and when you take into account that they were all based on my friends and me, I'm shipping myself/male-version-of-my-friend-Rebecca and male-version-of-my-lesbian-cousin/my Vietnamese friend.....

ALSO, OKAMI SECRETS ARE ♥

I totally never even compare HDM and HP. o.0 Both are written with such different intentions in such different styles. Just because they're both fantasy and English does not make them comparable.

Not to mention that many, many, MANY books are better then Harry Potter in any category you'd like to choose. Even if the category is "Books about English kids with glasses, scars on their foreheads, and pet owls," I would say that Books of Magic wins.::cough:: Just because someone prefers a book to your MIGHTY FANDOM doesn't mean you should automatically never read it.

14. Pretty much cements what I said the other day:

Also on the topic of fandom, a thought has occurred to me lately. Why is it that fandom often makes people who ship 'obvious' or 'mainstream' pairings feel like they're inferior, somehow? As if someone's Kai/Zaizen OTP makes them better than someone who ships Kai/Rin or Kai/Kite? What's the deal with that? And I'm not making shit up, am I? I mean, it really does seem like there's some kind of stigma attached to the more popular mainstream pairings.

Fail.

25. Good on you. ☆ Sakuno's just the character type that I dislike, personally, but I don't hate her. She just doesn't interest me at all. I'm always glad to see people who don't hate her, especially because those who do usually do so for reasons like the ones cited in secret #5.

Re: 14

(Anonymous) 2007-10-02 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
it really does seem like there's some kind of stigma attached to the more popular mainstream pairings.

then we are obviously not traveling in the same fandom circles because this is something I've fought for many years - that I'm somehow this pariah in fandom because I don't like or write obvious or mainstream pairings.
