3. Aahaha, I know what you mean. Although, with Wing, I just tend to pretend that the GBoys are adults anyways -- they sure as hell don't act like kids most of the time.

15. Actually, that sounds like fun.

17. That's why I don't like to make sockpuppets for posting bad!fic anymore. I'd always feel guilty when the fangirls tried to get to know me better. Yes, I am such a pussy.

21. Different strokes for different folks. Don't read it if you see a fic labeled Franziska/Edgeworth.

[identity profile] fishy-pooser.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? I wouldn't worry about that until you get published. And even then it'd just be hilarious. Besides, if you really dislike it you can tell FF.net not to allow stories of your writing, and then the vast majority of the crap will probably be eliminated.

Re: 24 OP

(Anonymous) 2007-10-01 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I'd go that far, but it is a general anxiety I have (hence it's a secret because I know it's not logical). I probably would be thrilled to have people paying attention to my stuff, and I realize I could just Word of God stuff I don't like. Probably wouldn't stuff FF.net, though, just because I think Anne Rice went overboard in that regard.

3. Definitely agree. I found the adults in Gundam Seed to be way more interesting than the kids. I'm not saying I didn't like some of the kids but it was the adults that made the show for me.

7. So let me get this straight. You plan on never, ever reading another book simply because you think that it won't be as good as Harry Potter? Wow! Just... wow! How do you know that HP is the best book if you don't try reading other things? Besides even if you don't find a book that is better, that still doesn't mean you won't enjoy it.

24. Instead of worrying about it, have fun. If you do get that story published, create a bunch of sockpuppets and torment the rabid fangirls.

I'm loving the Okami secrets that have been popping up lately. It's an awesome game :) I'm glad that it helped you with your family.

18

[identity profile] luna-kitsu-blu.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a Lutheran turned Atheist, and I know how you feel. I love that movie, as well as Jesus Christ Superstar (I wish I wasn't a girl--Judas has the best songs in existence), and Godspell (I was even in it). Listening to that music always gives me the sense of awe you're talking about.

I'm also a really weird Atheist. I make jokes about how God is punishing me for not believing he exists, or that he'll strike me down for saying some things. I guess I use my religious freedom very wildly. It's all for the laughs.

BUT MY POINT: you aren't alone. Faith is...fickle, I think. And it takes different things to stir it in different people. I know the emptiness of wanting it to be there once the music has stopped playing, but don't let it get you too down. All through Godspell, I kept thinking "This is how religion should be. This is how I felt as a kid. Why can't I feel it now?". It is just kid stuff for some of us, though. Blindly following and knowing rather than hoping that what we're being told is the truth.

Don't feel too bad, honey. It happens to the best of us. Nostalgia, me thinks. Nothing to be ashamed about.

Oh, and PS. Any Christians that may read this? This isn't an invitation for you to try and bring me back to faith. I'm not interested. At All. In fact, your trying will just reinforce my loathing for the religion. Keep your beliefs to yourself, where they should be. Thank you. In fact, have a man-love icon on the house ^^

14. ...Oh my god that artwork is adorable. ;; Also, any combo of the Golden Trio is A++ in my book.

37. HAH I've been rewatching that lately. Hi thar, Weiss fandom.

5 - Uh, I wouldn't call Izumi a lead female, but god do I hate senseless female-character bashing. (Why the hell would anyone bash Izumi, anyway??)

7 - .........Wow. Um. Okay, so Eragon was cliched as hell and borrowed heavily from Eddings, I've heard as bad if not worse about Twilight, and I know nothing about The Amulet of Samarkand, but His Dark Materials was damned good.

Seriously, though... Nothing will beat Harry Potter?

...my god. I just... I don't honestly know what to say to that. I can't find the words to tell you how... how WRONG you are. You'll miss out on so many things just because people keep making those stupid comparisons to HP just because they happen to both be young adult fantasy novels -- utter bullshit, if you ask me.

I'm so, so sorry for you.

11 - ...I adore that font.

12 - Fuckin' Akatsuki. That shit is why I left the damn fandom to begin with, and reading this secret, if the atmosphere's that bad I'm glad I haven't gone back.

15 - Ahaha, YES. I've had epic conversations with my friends about what alignments and classes our favorite video game characters would be. Trust me, you're not alone.

21 - ...bzuh? I try to find the words to respond to this secret, but every time I do I just end up thinking of this one fic I read where two characters who weren't related roleplayed incest and it was one of the hottest fucking things I've ever read and my brain just kinda stops. *cough*

24 - If I ever got off my lazy ass and published shit, I would so love to see what the fans would do as far as ships and stuff go. Heck, if I knew I wouldn't get my ass sued for making money off of ideas possibly lifted from someone's fic of my stuff, I'd participate in the fandom myself.

37 - Different fandom, same shit. :/

21

(Anonymous) 2007-10-01 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
OP here.

It's not that I have something against inherently incestuous pairings, but it's the particular bond between those two. It's DEFINITELY familial, but it's... still fairly unique to them. They have a very interesting and compelling dynamic that makes their relationship by far one of my favorites in the entire series. But too often, I think people who ship them try to sugar-coat their established relationship and ignore that hugely important dynamic, which is what I was trying to say here in the secret.

1. I LOVE that movie, and I understand how awkward it is to say you like it. But hey, it's a good movie.

10. 18 years old and STILL love that show.

24. Meh, I get that to a point, but you could always be like Tamora Pierce and start your own forum to debunk some of the stupid. Plus there's the fact that you are God and can shoot down the worst of it.

34. I felt the same way, so I was quite glad she survived. By the end of that episode she'd gained a lot of respect with me.

38. That's sweet. ♥

7. I've always thought that 'it's better than Harry Potter' was an extremely lame excuse to read something.
9. Me too. <3 That series was so amazing as well...
35. Greatly agreed.

7. I've not heard a bad word about His Dark Materials, and I've /never/ heard of anyone say it was badly written.
As for Eragon... yeah, Christopher Paolini needs to step away from his thesaurus.

Mostly, I'm pissed with the way Andy got TOTALLY SHAFTED in SEED Destiny.

[identity profile] gaignun.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
3) Some of the adults in SEED were VERY awesome! But like some of the younger ones, there were ones on each side that both wow'd me and bored me. XD But yay adult love~. They need more fic.

20) I loved what I saw of the show way back when. But ee I was happy when we got a Virgil in camp!

7. Ignorance is bliss much?

Sorry, but I'd rather read 1984, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, War and Peace, Dante's Inferno, Catch-22, The 37th Mandala/Orchid Eater and any of Kurt Vonnegut's works....

[identity profile] dots.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
7. I'm going to disagree with everyone else about HDM (The Golden Compass bored the hell out of me), but really, JKR being the best ever? Are you serious?

Read some George R. R. Martin, or some Terry Pratchett. PTerry is probably something you'd love. Cripes, if you think of JKR as amazing, PTerry will blow your mind. HP is far from the best series ever -- it's immaturely written, and the characters aren't... really... that great.

7 - A lot of books are compared with HP nowadays simply because of its popularity and familiarity with so many people. So why perform mass-shun action on any book that anyone has ever said is "better than Harry Potter"? You'll be missing out; I promise you that there is something out there that is better than Harry Potter.

I share your pain (got my headset on right now and everything) and yes, answering machines are totally a fandom. There's the kids who just discovered cocaine fanfic, the bitchy BNFs who tape some pop song off the radio and use that as their message, the staticky in-and-out reception of someone screaming into the machine (what? They aren't doing it for you, it's their recording!), the clear and concise enunciation of the older customers...

...shit. I'm thinking about this far too hard.

11. jdgfkgfk WHY DON'T YOU JUST SAY IT? Seriously, there are ways that don't sound like "You're doing this wrong and this is awful and god is that a foot or a zucchini?" You can critique without upsetting people. If her art is that bad, then do something about it (even if she's proud now, she's going to hit the My Art Sucks wall eventually anyway. Might as well speed the process up a bit).

Actually get to know the kid too. That might help a bit. By the way you worded this secret, you're not close at all, so if you just come up to her it might feel like you're attacking her work for the fun of it. If she trusts you, it'd be a different story.

24. I think it'd be really freakin' awesome to have a rabid fanbase (unless they start approaching me on the streets and phoning my house to write in x slash pairing). Heck, if I ever became a successful author I'd be purposely writing in subtext so I could stalk online communities and see fights break out between pairing factions. I would hate being in a volatile fandom ala Harry Potter or Avatar, but I'd love to have one. Might even be disappointed if they were all sane.

21. "I lose respect" secrets FTL.

OP 21

(Anonymous) 2007-10-01 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Forgive me for not being as experienced and around-the-block; this is only the third secret I've submitted in the week and a half I've known about this community. What's so inherently wrong about "I lose respect" in secrets? Should I *not* lose respect for people who prove that they can't understand one of the most significant points in the relationship between two characters? Should I not lose respect for people who intentionally ignore important canon for the purpose of sugar-coating a relationship and pretending it's something it's not?

I don't quite understand why this particular phrasing evokes such a reaction. I saw nothing in the rules about it.
