It often comes when you're not looking, at least for me.

You're a good person and you should feel good. And I agree that people should be allowed to vent if they feel like it; they might really need the outlet and no one HAS to read it.

Yep.

Just leave the job and maybe you should tell them the problems you had with the job

I don't know, I'm not a subscriber. I just know it exists.

I love royalty AUs! It's embarrassing how much I love them. That and 'character as a kid raised by other characters'. I could read them all day long.

Yeah, I agree. I was the shy kid in class. I would mumble everything and it was really difficult for me to look at people. I hid from other kids during lunch. I spent most of my time just never talking.

But I was the politest little shit you ever met.

No one ever felt like I was rude about it either. I was clearly shy but they could always tell I was grateful.

(And the money thing just puts me out, my gosh. You don't do that. With the economy the way it is there is no excuse for pulling that kind of shit.)

The kind where everyone is recognizably in character despite the different setting. I wish I saw these more often.

This secret sounds exactly like something a friend of mine said.

Maybe try reading the transcripts and listen to the weather/music? It might not be the same, but if you've listened to Cecil's voice, you can't pretend it's him talking in your mind.

I guess that it doesn't help that there's 10 or less secrets each day. It's a good thing I love coming to GC, haha.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-03 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
But are you so shy you can't once choke out a "thank you" to someone who hosted you for several days and clearly knocked herself out to show you a good time?

Why her? I mean, aren't there shittier people who've got big for shittier reasons? Not defending her but I'm a bit more creeped out that Roman Polanski can still make money than that Cassie Claire can. It's also not exactly news that having personal connections far outweighs talent when it comes to achieving artistic fame.

And why you? I know I know, it's sometimes hard NOT to compare oneself to other writers but at the end of the day her life has nothing to do with yours. Her being famous has zero effect on you or your work. Let it the fuck go.

Do what brings you joy. If writing doesn't bring you joy, don't do it. But if it does, don't let the people who are only interested in working the system take that away from you. Don't let anyone take that away from you.

as another writer

It's from New Girl, a Zooey Deschanel show on... I wanna say fox? but I'm not in the US and don't always pick up on what's on which network so I could be wrong. One of the male leads can't decide between two women.

And to OP, I agree with the second part, yes, they do both deserve better because taking that long to decide... NO.

Oh My Gosh, this happened to me.

If this person is old enough to visit you by themselves they're old enough to know that this kind of behaviour alienates people. No matter how shy or introverted they are, they've still decided that their comfort is more important than anyone else's. I'd be angry too!

Maybe try turning all that rage into motivation?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, you sort of can help it. Maybe you can't help what you feel, but you can sure help whether or not you let it stop you writing.

Re: I have no opinion on this writer, BUT

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
this is true

Poorly written mass-market books have existed forever. I think most teachers focus on literary fiction and the classics, and I'm not so sure that creative writing teachers aren't incredibly biased. But it's not like this stuff is that hard to look up.

tl;dr writers are not a breed of mystical super-people get over it

I'm sorry meeting your friend sucked so much. I hope meeting said friend hasn't soured you to meeting other online friends/making other friends.

I agree with what others said that maybe they were just shy. Still, they sound very rude as they never said thanks and expected you to pay for everything. It is understandable that you'd be upset and you shouldn't hold it against yourself if you don't want to be friends with that person anymore.

I would have the same problem as you. Honestly, if you want you can tell them how much their attitude bothered you and communicate about it. They get to learn how they present themselves to others and how to improve their behavior. You get to air you grievances and possibly get an apology or something.

If you don't want to I would just say cut it off. This is kind of poisoning your friendship. So either you should try to fix it or stop having the friendship.

Sorry about everything. Hopefully your friend is understanding and you two can patch it up.
