I mostly know about this story because the author posted her story updates to the main comm like twice a week, and the summary and author's notes alone were full of Winry bashing. I skimmed the story and it was as OOC as it looked.

I finally had to filter out the entire damn comm so I wouldn't have to see her character bashing any more.

I haven't read this particular fic, probably because I'm not a fan of Winry myself, but it always sucks when authors go overboard like that. Why character bash at all? As a reader I skip fics that feature characters I don't like (at least when they're a main character). As an author, I don't write about characters I don't like. Simple as that.

Just from reading the summaries it looks like they had Ed & Winry get married and have kids and then get divorced so that Roy & Ed would have kids to raise. FFS.

Yeah, seriously. There's very few characters I actively hate, and I would hate to waste valuable story time on them beyond a brief mention.

In my experience with fandoms, just about all the really popular fics are horribly OOC and produce a shitload of fics following their fanon. I always thought that's just how things were.

That sounds about right. Which is why I tend avoid the "popular" fanfictions most of the time (Hello~~ neverwinter and fallout fandoms, and your love for abusive men).

OMG OP this sounds awful. I just cannot stand bashing. It's either pathetic or downright cruel. Maybe some of it is because I don't see the point of reacting to a character I don't like with bashing.

I'd much rather crack them open and try to figure out how they tick as a character , maybe in a psychoanalyzation and come up with headcanons for them. Or otherwise just ignore them if they don't interest me. But bashing just.....what a waste.

If I can tell who a person hates just by reading their fic, then there's a bit of a problem. and trust me I can tell "this person HATES this character" from "this person is showing the character's flaws" It's really apparent. The characters are not puppets, and they shouldn't be mouthpeices for the authors opinion.

I read fic to read about characters I love, not an author tract on the author's opinion of "why this characters sucks and should just GO AWAY!11!!!"

It's a little surprising Al/Winry wasn't more popular. I always thought it had the potential to be a really sweet, fun pairing, and it would free Ed to do whatever with Roy (although I also shipped Roy/Riza, which leaves poor Ed all alone).

I smell bullshit. Went and looked thinking it was some huge popular story and the OP was *totes* jealous but it's a few stories with 11 comments and under 30 kudos.

Not sure where the secret gets that people are shitting themselves over this. Compare it to other stories with 300 some kudos doesn't seem worth the trouble at A03 and 3000 at fanfiction net.

Sounds like the author and her friends are trying to get popular by making a secret about themselves and having someone come down with a hard case of White Knight-itis. It also explains why the names were left on there. It's a small fic that just happens to have everyone here know what it is? Yeah, with 43k fics in that category on fanfiction net alone and all these people here read it?

No way, not a chance.
