As someone who doesn't watch, her having dragons is pretty cool. But I also like Lady Knight (based on her GIFsets).

I like her a lot; her plot, not so much. My favourite female characters in ASOIAF are Sansa and Brienne, though.

I liked Dany in AGOT because I do think her story of starting as a 13 year old girl sold in marriage to a self-possessed khaleesi is really interesting.

But once she starts getting superinvolved in Essos politics and wars, I just zone out. I get that her arc is all about her learning how to be a leader but it's so BORING. And Dany isn't especially likable.

Catelyn, Brienne and Sansa are my favorite ASOIAF female character. Honorable mention to Asha Greyjoy.

I don't know who you follow, but I thought the consensus was that she's awesome because she took a bad situation and rose above it, she's compassionate and hard as fuck, she doesn't suffer fools, she had the best last word scene ever and she lays down sick burns (sometimes literally) AND she's a mother to dragons and hot (also literally at some points).

Well we all have characters we hate that everyone else seems to love (or maybe we don't, I only know that I do...) but I don't think you can really say Dany doesn't have flaws/make mistakes. Especially not after Book V, but not even really after Book I. I mean, I don't really like her either, but I usually have only a few likes in any given series.

As for the other female characters, well-written doesn't always equate to 'likeable' especially as people have different tastes, particularly concerning what flaws and how deeply ingrained in a character they are or how many mistakes they make and how grave those mistakes are.

I love a lot of the ladies in ASoIAF, Dany included but I think many of them are really interesting. Cersei, Catelyn, and Brienne are particualr favourites of mine as well as Dany.

She's not hot.

She's slutty and takes her clothes off a lot. this does not make a woman 'hot'. if anything it makes her significantly less attractive.

"I'm a strong woman who is confident enough in her body that I don't need to get naked" is hot

"Look at me! Am I attractive enough for you? Do you want me to show more skin? Will you think I'm hot then? Please?" is needy and pathetic and not at all hot by anyone's standards.

I'm sorry, I have a really berserk button about this. People like the woman in the secret, Eva Green, Mila Jovovovovovothing (You know, off the dreadful resident evil movies) keep getting work based on this fallacy, and it pisses me off.

I've seen a lot of hate for her (mostly from readers rather than viewers I guess). Apparently her Meereen plot is super boring (okay, fine) and she's an entitled brat (that I take issue with).

(I have only watched one season and read two of the books but) I totally see what you mean - she seems to be the fandom darling mostly because she has all the accessories, all the cool mythological imagery and prettiness and shit. But at the same time she's becoming one of my favorite characters so I feel very predictable, haha.

I think Dany is loved so much because she is one of the good protagonists who gets to be triumphant. I mean, do any of the Stark children really get to be happy, ever? Sometimes you just want the good guys to have a win that sticks once in a while in a world full of unrelenting pain, misery and rape.

I agree wholeheartedly. She is a better character in the books than the show (the general consensus is that Emilia's acting isn't that great and I agree, but here come the 'but she gots sum awardz!11' comments) but in general most female characters were written better than she was/is. Her arc is really interesting to me but as a character she is boring and I dread her chapters (aside from those in the first book).

Ngl, after the first book in ASOIAF I took forever to read her chapters because I was bored stiff. I find her incredibly generic as a character, her internal monologue grates on me, and GRRM enforces the IF I LOOK BACK I AM LOST!! thing way, way too often. Same with Sansa, altho for different reasons. Actually, I skipped most of their chapters completely and just went to Wiki to catch up on it instead, aha...

Dany was my favorite character in the books (1-3 at least). I only saw one ep of the show, so I can't speak for that, but I do like the way her character was written. (I'm not attracted to women so I can't speak for that bit.) Her having dragons is part of what makes her awesome but tbh I loved her in book 1 even before the dragons.

Seriously. If you don't like Dany, that's fine. But you don't have to piss on her to bring attention to the other female characters. The fandom does that enough as it is.
