*waves to OP*

1. I was scared at first too! But you shouldn't let anyone discourage you from writing. Your enjoyment/lack thereof should not be based on whether someone else will disapprove.

2. KHFFR, in theory, performs a very vital function in that people can discuss whatever aspect of the KH fandom that wrinkles their pantaloons and not be napalmed for it. In theory, people can express dissenting opinions and debate them in a rational and informative matter. In theory, ideas/fics/concepts/attitudes are attacked, and not people. It's obvious that this is not always the case, but this is one of those situations where you just have to go LOL INTERNET and either read or don't. Not everyone's a jerk, not everyone practices what they preach (lol can of worms OPEN), and really - the place is good for lulz and an eyeroll from time to time. Just don't take it seriously, is all.

3. I do not know what you mean by 'empire,' as the active memberbase of KHFFR/H_F/whathaveyou comprises a very small segment of the fandom. I doubt most of them even write fic/draw. So again, do not be intimidated!

Uh... I think that's it. Sorry if this comes across as being condescending; it's not intentional. I just want to convey that I know where you're coming from, is all.

34 -- I don't believe you either, sorry.

I've met one too many 'sociopaths'.

News flash: Pretending you have no attachments and feelings doesn't make you cool. It doesn't make people think you're badass and dangerous like those dark and brooding animu characters. It makes you look like a huge loser.

34 OP - WANK WANK WANK. (Not you. Me.)

(Anonymous) 2007-11-12 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know why people think being a sociopath is 'cool'. There is nothing 'cool' about it. I was diagnosed sociopath 2 years ago. since then, because of medical insurance issues, I stopped seeing a therapist.

It's not about pretending to have 'no attachments', it's about pretending to HAVE attachments. It's one of those things where when I have a morbid thought like 'what if my friend died next Tuesday?' and the next thought is 'man, that would be inconvenient, I wanna go barhopping on Tuesday.' seriously. Isn't that sick? x__x;; And I worry about that, all the time.

I explain it to people as being 'like Light' because they don't know what 'sociopath' means. Which is why this is in fandomsecrets, because DAMN it drives me crazy when people compare themselves to anime characters and go OMG I'M JUST LIEK HIM on the internet.

And just to make it even more wanky, sociopathy is one of those things where no one can tell you you don't have it because supposedly it's so well-hidden that even psychologists don't always spot it. Which means that anyone claiming to have sociopathic tendencies (including me, anonymouse!) could basically go OMG YOU'RE WRONG! and how can you prove that you're actually RIGHT and they're just an emo bitch?

But again, that's why this is on fandomsecrets: so that I'm not in ur flist, wanking ur journal talking about what a godawful person I am.

TL;DR, sorry!

5. ... I don't see the appeal in it either. Its one of those big pairings that irk me.

6. ... Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

8. FF8 version > KH Version, imo.

10. Minus the fighting, life endangerment, mind rape, and ninja stuff I guess it is... Oh screw it, they're nothing alike.

13. There's Mindy Kaling as Kelly Kappor from The Office too. (though comedy's might not be secret maker's cup of tea, I just wanted to point that out.)

15. Female Ryuk. *shot*

18. I love the movie but GOD did your picture scare me.

20. I'm the kind of person who lives slightly saturated, blank screenshots. Does that make me have bad taste?

23. Up until Dumbledore died I thought him and McGonagall would end up together. (Screw you canon gay. this is the first time you've ever disappointed me.)

24. Um... Define abusive? By abusive do you mean "slightly unstable just finally works out in the end"? Because then yes, its totally abusive. Its so damn abusive.

34. Don't let your flist know that one!

38. Batman... is awesome. :(

43. Looks more like an orchid to me. ... Light pink? Lilac?

45. Uggggglghlkgjalkfsdafsd. BRATZ. Little skanks is right. (like we need anymore horrible influence on children)

24. Um... Define abusive? By abusive do you mean "slightly unstable just finally works out in the end"? Because then yes, its totally abusive. Its so damn abusive.

No, I mean emotionally and verbally abusive. And, in the case of the canaries, physically abusive. Okay, some people think that it was cute, or that Hermione had a right to it.

No.

You never have a right to physically attack someone for offending or upsetting you. Would it have been just as cute/justified if Hermione had thrown herself at Ron and clawed at his face with her nails?

I think they treat each other like crap. Then, if one of them's horribly hurt, they forget and forgive. But that's not how it's supposed to work. That's not healthy at all.

The best illustration of how emotionally wrong their relationship feels to me is to compare a scene in the OotP movie with the corresponding scene in the book.

In the movie, Hermione gives the famous "emotional range of a teaspoon" line. There's a pause. And then they both start laughing. That's cute. That's healthy. The ability to take the piss without actually hurting someone's feelings, or being malecious.

In the book, Hermione just says it in anger. End.

They "finally worked out in the end" because Ron bought a freaking book that cracked some secret girl-code. And I found that incredibly creepy. It made all of his nice gesutres feel like calculated moves instead of actual growing up.

But it's Hermione's behaviour that disgusts me the most. Especially all throughout HBP. I don't care what was going through her hormones, there's no excuse to behave like that, were everthing she did or said was calculated to make Ron feel bad. "I only like good Quidditch players."

They're more than slightly unstable--they're hurtful.

43. I feel your pain.

I'm not going to say I agree 100%, because I've started in on the old series, and I love it and love the 20+ years of continuity-sans-retcons it gives the new one... But I love it in the same way that I love Star Trek TOS. Maybe. If that much. The old Doctors are pretty cool (that I've seen), but I like both the new Doctors infinitely better.

Also, your font color and announment regarding it made me smile. I've only encounted Rose/romance hate in the past few months, but it confuses and saddens me. I'm kind of scared of my own fandom in a way I haven't been since I learned that if you were a Trekkie and a Star Wars fan at the same time, it was like being the child of viciously divorced parents.

But seriously, in every fandom I've ever been a part of, nothing has upset me as much as the people who just insist on spewing vitriol about Rose, and who passionately hate the Rose/Doctor relationship just because the Doctor's not supposed to be "like that."

It's a new ballpark. It's a new series. We're playing in the same continuity, but we're updating it a bit. This isn't the hide-behind-the-sofa-from-Daleks show any more (maybe hide-behind-the-sofa-from-creepy-stone-angels, but still).

And regardless how you feel about whether the Doctor should have romance, or who he should have romance with, I can never understand why people don't think that the chaste, hand-holding-and-shared-looks relationship between the Doctor and Rose was beautifully done.

Thank you for admitting to liking the new better than the old. I think I'm still a little scared to.

43. Because if it doesn't have flashy special effects, how can it be worth watching?? u_u

I get the feeling you did not watch all the previous Doctors on netflix. Because if you're calling Troughton creepy and not funny, then there's just no hope for you.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Toughton's number Two, right? Because if so, I wholeheartedly agree--funny, not creepy. ("Zoe, Jamie has an idea. Better run.")

Maybe it's more that the previous Doctors weren't exactly as high on the sexy-scale as Nine and Ten were. A lot of the earlier Doctors were more like someone you'd want to be your Wacky Uncle, while Nine and Ten (okay, and Five. And, in the right mood, Four. And occassionally Six, even if he is a complete jerk...) were more...um, well... *cough*

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I think with the ships, JKR had them in mind from the beginning, and just started sort of...forcing characters into them gracelessly, like square pegs into round holes, even when the way the characters had grown from Book 1 to later indicated that SHIP NO WORK.

Poor, poor, poor Tonks.

It's not just old fen who hated Rose.

Ever since "The Impossible Planet" and that fucked-up conversation about getting a fricken house together... Ugh.

I think that Nine needed her and she was an excellent companion for him. But she lost her humanity and that caused her role to shift from companion to the Doctor's enabler, and that's not good.

Which is why I loved Martha. Well, would have if she didn't fall in love with him. I thought she was smarter than that.

But, really, the only episodes in the entire new series that matter are the Master Trilogy. Rock on, Master. Rock the fuck on.

Re: 43

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Word to the latter half.

I'm not sure what you mean by "enabler."

I didn't see much wrong with the mortgage talk. It was kinda cute, not entirely serious, but it made sense. It would figure, to me, that if Rose and the Doctor had been well and truly stuck in one time, and the TARDIs had been lost for good, that it would be only natural for them to stick together. Heck, simple survival on Rose's part, considering that she'd have no clue what was up with the time period she was in.

I do agree that Nine needed her more. I think, as it goes, Nine loved her more, or in a different sort of way. He was possessive (not in a creepy way, just in a typical guy way), and made it clear to other guys that Rose was Off Limits. While Ten had that attention-span of a mayfly. "What's this? Ooh, shiny French lady! Hello Mickey, wanna come aboard? Ooh, lookit that!"

Martha...Martha was just too much like Rose for me. I don't mean personality-wise. More that she seemed like a replacement!Rose because she was fairly close in age to Rose, from the same area, and the same time period. She just didn't bring in the wacky family cast, and she had to tell someone that she loved the Doctor hopelessly in every. Single. Episode.
I wanted something different. A bloke, maybe, or someone from a completely different time/area/planet. Or find a way to bring Jamie back...Doctor Who can always use more kilts...

But, as you said, all that really matters is the Master. Mmm...I would do things to that man... Um.
Oh, and the Shakespeare episode. Totally.

9. Yeah. I mean... just... yeah. ^.^;;;

19. Actually, I rather like all of the random pictures you get with just whoever happened to be around. It's got a certain charm to it, that the characters don't have to exist in paired or teamed bubbles. 'Cause, y'know, St. Rudolph's can hang with Seigaku, and Hyoutei can come sit at the next table over. Or something like that. Not that Tokyo isn't big enough that things like this would be uncommon, but... it's not so big, either, that this sort of thing would never happen. There's a nice... I dunno, realism? to it that I like.
