For some people, Blonde can be anything from brown to light blonde, so that may be where the confusion is coming from?

What bugs me the most is a VERY wrong hair color, like calling Harry Potter a Redhead, or Draco a Brunette. Same goes with eyes.

Are you me, OP? Because I read both this book and Jonathan Strange based on the gushing praise from friends and other bookworms and found both to be kind of... just okay. The writing style was pretty, but after a while I just got bored.

Prefacing this with I am the whitest of white people and therefor not the best to talk about cultural appropriation but: You can be American and not completely removed from your culture. The two things are not mutually exclusive. You can also be attached to some parts of your culture and not others, because culture is an ever-growing, changing things.
