Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Mostly because I want to rant about women who bring their sons into the women's restroom when they are way too old. I understand little boys needing help in the restroom. When your son looks 8 or 9 at least, though, and he spends the time you are in the restroom peaking under the other stall doors, he is way too old to be in there.

I don't care about boys being in the ladies' room or vice versa, because I get that parents don't want to leave their kids alone in public and may not have any other options, but if the kid is old enough to not be strapped into a stroller then they're old enough to know not to go peeking under the stalls.

Yeah, this is definitely a "your kids are old enough to be taught some damn manners" thing.

+1. They should know better than to do that. (And if their parent sees them doing it, they should get on their ass about it.)

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
If a kid is over 6 years old and is not capable of standing quietly outside the restroom for a few minutes without wandering off, then the parents have failed at parenting.

Yep. Because there are parents out there who don't want to leave their kids outside alone the bathroom in public places like the mall or the grocery store. Or want them to go alone in places they can't follow like bathrooms of the opposite gender of themselves. Doesn't matter if that kid is three or eight. And that's understandable. But that kid should know better not to peek under the stall. That's rude.

OMG THIS. My mother brought my kid brother into the bathroom until he was 10. TEN! And I knew another lady who would post her son outside the bathroom whenever she went until he was FIFTEEN. WTF?!

My friend is not happy but he refuses to get any kind of help or do anything that might make his life better and I'm getting tired of offering suggestions that get shot down immediately. I understand just needing to vent sometimes without wanting people to try to fix the situation and I try to be a sympathetic ear when he needs it, but I feel like there comes a point when you have to try to do something and we passed that a long time a go.

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Everyone's allowed to vent now and then, but if all your conversation is endless complaining AND you're not doing a damn thing to improve your own situation, then you need to pipe down and stop using your friends as free therapy. Instead of offering suggestions, I'd ask, "What you do plan to do about that?" (in a non-accusatory tone, if possible) and if he's got nothing, then it's "Well, good luck with whatever you decide to do. Let's change the subject to something more cheerful."

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, personally I tend to be the kind who just needs to vent and not get suggestions offered, so offering suggestions would get shot down because that's not what I need/want.

Then again, I also usually know what I need to do to fix the situation [or that I'm in the wrong, but am too pissed off to care at that time].

Not a trained games therapist, but it kinda sounds like a Why Don't You, Yes But scenario

Particularly described in the "games" video.

One of my housemates is like that. She just repeats the same stuff over and over and shoots down every suggestion we make. I just zone out when she starts up now, I have enough baggage of my own without hers being thrown in too but I manage not to twist the subject round to me every single conversation*.

*may or may not be exaggeration, I'm just so damn tired of having to deal with this.

This is a huge reason why I broke up with my ex. I cannot and will not be held responsible for figuring out your mental health. That's your job. I'm here to help, not carry.

I feel ya.

Honestly, some people just need to come to that conclusion by themselves, at their own pace. Pushing them might just be counterproductive, for both of you. You can set limits for how much you're still willing to listen, though.

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeesh. That's too old, and even if they were younger, that behavior needs to be discouraged.

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
This is petty, but it drives me nuts when I type thought-out posts on messageboards, and someone below me just changes the subject. :P Then I realize that's probably why most people have given up on them.

Also, CAPTCHA sneaking up on me. GTFO.

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I HATE how my housemates have to constantly be making noise - and generally loud noise at that. Like, I can hear them across the house because of how loud it is from the time they get up to when they go to bed and that drives me INSANE.

To add insult to injury, if I ask them if they could quiet down a bit because I'm studying I get told to "Fuck off" because...apparently wanting to study, and needing it quiet enough I can think is some kind of horrible thing. Or something.

I had a roommate like that. She had to announce she was home and had to announce she was leaving by stomp walking through the hallway and slamming the doors. Worse, she would leave early in the morning. (5 am).

One time she did it and woke me up when she sun had yet to rise. I lied in bed wondering if anyone else was bothered by her racket. Suddenly in the next room I heard, "GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!" Yep, our third roommate had heard it as well. And to say the least, he wasn't all too chipper about it.

Dear fandom friend, I know you have no interest in football, but please shut up with your complaining that everyone is talking about the World Cup when you keep spamming your friends with every ever so tiny update of your gaming process. Just so you know? I don't care which of your game characters you make breed, but I still don't passive-aggressively bitch about "people and their stupid people breeding games" on my blogs where you can read it.

People who make excuses for their spouse/partner

(Anonymous) 2014-07-06 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, he's an amazing guy and so sweet! Except that he doesn't help out with the household chores, ever."

Yeah, that's not an amazing sweet guy, he's an asshole and you've lowered your standards so that somehow, being completely useless around the house and thinking that housework = women's work is fine and dandy.

"He's so good to me and we talk about everything... but he gets really jealous when I talk to other guys and doesn't want me to have any male friends."/

Yeah, also an asshole. Being really good to you means not inflicting his insecurity on others.

I could go on and on and on...

People who spam social media with baby pictures or pet-rescue stuff. You spawned, congrats, I don't need to see your naked child on my newsfeed. Or your child with food all over its face. And how on earth do you think that's cute? I also can't do anything to help shelter cats five states away from me. If I had the money to donate or space to foster, I'd help local animals.

It doesn't matter what age the kid is, or their gender - they definitely shouldn't be peeking under stalls like that. Quite frankly, I'd end up kicking a face under the stall door out of sheer surprise/gut reaction, and I don't care how hysterical the parents get, they should be teaching their kids not to do that in the first place.

Tumblr and their constant policing on how you should "correctly enjoy things" is slowly turning me away from fandom, which sucks because that's the platform where fandoms are hanging out right now.

On the other hand, I also feel that a lot of this people who are policing are just teenagers that are trying to fit in with the "tumblr culture", but it doesn't make it any more pleasant.
