2. As much as I love Tim Gunn, I'd probably still wear it, no matter what he thinks. XD At least, if that style had any chance to look good on my body type.

8. I'd join a fandom for it! And even more so for The Sherwood Ring. (Plus, I think a lot of Megan Whalen Turner fans like her books, as well, because MWT recommended them in an afterword in one of her books. So I bet we could get a bunch of crossover fans!)

15. I don't think they're that funny, anyway. An occasional chuckle but...nothing more. (Then again, the only comedy series on [as] I DO find funny is Futurama. And MAYBE Robot Chicken, depending on the episode.)

18. ...Wow, you DO have a kiss of death. XD; Then again, all of my favorite characters are either fairly minor (Autor from Princess Tutu, Kaworu from Evangelion) or angst buckets and buckets (Fakir and Shinji XD;)

32. I'm the same way! My Mom has said I should only go on the computer on weekends, but then I'd just read or play video games or sleep...

37. Me too! They'd be more interesting. XD;

40. That sort of plot line really is overdone. XD; Sometimes I wonder if homosexual people themselves appreciate it or if they're tired of it, too.

41. I like showing characters as 'real'. People forget too often that even Clark Kent needs to eat sometimes. XD

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
40. As a homosexual person (but not speaking for everyone of course) it's obnoxious shit in fic most of the time, but that people recognize it's an actual serious issue (versus those fanbrats who think homophobia's ALL GONE) is fantastic.

[identity profile] ensuing.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
16. If nothing else, people should watch it for the dancing robots in the opening.

[identity profile] cybersky.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
1. That sounds awful. T.T Sorry to hear that.

4. Hot pic, but the art style looks so familiar it's driving me nuts. Someone hurry up and identify this fandom! @.@

7. I have the same problem with some shounen, but (going on a tangent here) I think shoujo can be pretty sexist too - especially when it's okay for two guys to be in love with one girl, but when two girls love the same guy one of them has to be TEH EV0L. But as a fan of both shounen and shoujo, I kinda suck it up.

7

[identity profile] sir-hellsing.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
7. I like how Princess Tutu played this "one gurl must be ev0l" cliche.

[identity profile] matalinolukaret.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
2: Lawls. I ♥ Tim Gunn.

34: Henry Clay! ♥ I think it'd be very interesting.

(Anonymous) 2007-12-18 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll admit that part of the reason I'm interested in Criminology is characters like Hannibal, Dexter, etc. but not cuz I'd want a romantic attachment to them.

It's mostly because I think it'd be interesting to talk to the most screwed up people alive.

[identity profile] web-of.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
7. Wordy McWorderson! Honestly, the blatant sexism was what got me out of Naruto.

6

[identity profile] hayato.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
..I only scrolled at first to 'I regret telling you about this game', and thought it was about me.

But then I realized it wasn't.

8.

(Anonymous) 2007-12-18 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. My Perilous Gard secret was posted last week, so I fully cop to hypocrisy here...but I would hate it if the book had a fandom. Only because I know I'd feel so ridiculously possessive of the characters and their world and wouldn't be able to enjoy anything because of all my "You're doing it WRONG" muttering.

If a fandom ever develops, please, God, let me not know about it. Then the fans can have their fun, and my blood pressure can remain low.

41

[identity profile] bigbigtruck.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Those are my favorite kinds of fics :3

15

(Anonymous) 2007-12-18 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
There's anyone in the world who thinks those morons are funny?

[identity profile] athenaltena.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
4. LoL, I have a similar thing with knee socks (I just like how they feel)

39. I think that's how games like those should work (take that, Jacko!)
rarebirds: (kilik ||| so if I betray you)

14

[personal profile] rarebirds 2007-12-18 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
OH GOD YES THANK YOU

I seriously don't see where all the love comes from. She's a skanky bitch - the only reason why I can stand her is because she's Kilik's twin (cause I have a thing for twins) and even then I'm wondering how exactly they ended up on opposite sides the way they have. Ringo is so much more awesome, seriously.

[identity profile] charmwitch.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
1; Don't be so hard on yourself, it takes time to heal. When you feel you're ready to continue with the series, do it at full force. Even though it's difficult right now, MGS will always bring you closer to your brother. I think you should cherish that... You will be able to complete this series one day and you will be able to love it and enjoy it!

I have faith in your strength, even if I don't know who you are.

I mean, come on. Who else is going to be able to tell your brother how the story ends? Pfft, I heard Jesus is a complete and utter wuss at these games. :| Don't get me started on Mother Theresa, she's too busy playing Katamari Damacy to know any better. STOP ROLLING THOSE ROSES, IT'S NEVERENDING.

Agreed. I absolutely want to read your fics now.

[identity profile] pourtant.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
32. I could have written this secret. Except I don't have finals to worry about right now.

36. I'm getting the same way, I think. Pairing him with anyone else just doesn't make sense to me.
Edited 2007-12-18 23:38 (UTC)

[identity profile] loveotter.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
41. I would like to subscribe to your publications. :o

[identity profile] cftfic.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
7.) I'm a guy. I like shonen and badassery and explosions and stuff. But you have no idea how much I'd love to have a really awesome female main character for once. Hell, in most of the original work I've got tooling around it seems that most of my female characters are -more- badass than the male (supposed) leads.

>_> Wonder what that says about me.

19.) I liked Rossiu and I looooved Yoko. Yes, she is a Doombitch, but that doesn't make her any less of a LOVABLE Doombitch.

But does she really get all that much hate? Honestly, the only character other than Rossiu I see get bashed is Nia and since she's by far the worst character in the show it's totally understandable!

28.) aw, I loved Tidus XD; I can see the love for that pairing, though. I loved Wakka too. He's a big lovable doofus.

40.) To be fair, I haven't written much (fem)/slash since coming back, but yeah, I try not to bring it up as much as possible. Because I'd rather Character X be in love with Character Y, not just in love with another man/woman. Totally agreed.

[identity profile] ronsard.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
32. Preach to the choir, sista.

35. Hello! *waves* I'm a person who shares that approach to fanfiction with you almost to a T. I used to entertain the thought of going pro with writing for awhile, but then I decided it would be unrealistic. Being published was never my dream anyway; as I kid, I always wanted to be a lawyer, and who knows, maybe I'll still get there. (Provided I don't fail all my finals, right 32? *shout-out*)

That said, I know tons of fandom writers who are passionate about writing, who want to do more than that, who use fanfic as their trial ground, and guess what, some of them have made it. There's nothing wrong with perfecting your craft while indulging in a spot of geeky interests. Get off your high middling horse.

41. Not unless... it gets boring :D

ETA to 41: Gratuitous add-on because I refuse to get anything done tonight. I generally think that details in fiction should have significance. I'm not a proponent of gauche, in-your-face drama, but that's not how it has to be done. Conflict isn't always about hand-waving and flying spittle -- when done right, it can be subtle and have much larger impact on the reader.

On that vein, I would love to read a story about two characters just sitting around shooting the shit, but I would also like the writer to put a little effort into letting us glimpse into the relationship between these characters, flesh out their history a bit through this interaction, however brief. And in a story where the main focus is a character's ordinary everyday routines, I still like to think more could be wrung out of it. Perhaps a few tics and quirks in the character's habits that make the readers go, "Yes! That's so them!", or maybe insight into their state of mind in regard to a totally separate issue. God, there are so many way supposedly mundane actions could be made to look interesting. I would even like to read a fic about the general everyday routine of a normally hyperactive character -- in that case, the contrast alone would make for awesome thought fodder.

Bah, tl;dr. In short, I totally agree that it doesn't always have to be about EXPLOSHUNS or PASSHUNS, but my personal preference is that the writer gives weight to the actions of their characters -- even the normal, seemingly boring ones.

22: ME TOO. God, Russell is one of my favorite characters in the whole damn series. I do ship him with Ed though. It's delicious.

26: I think a lot of it has to do with people who may not really be asexual, but who SAY they are just to have something to identify with when they don't find the same things attractive/appealing/hot as everyone else. If you understand fully that you ARE asexual, and you know all the implications and details that go along with identifying that way, I think you're good.

32: HELLO, ME. This sounds so much like me, agh. It also sounds a lot like a couple of my friends. Do I know you?

36: That's funny, because I'm annoyed that he IS written with Mohinder so much. Plz to be branching out, fandom? :/

40: I hate that, too. SO much. I realize it's an easy way to cause lol dramu in your fics, but it makes you look like a douche if you keep harping on "homofobia iz teh bad!!11!"

[identity profile] tsunayoshi.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
14. I don't 'fangirl' her really, but I do think she's a good character for all of manipulative bitchiness she pulls early in the series. And I like her infinitely more than Ringo, since where the series is at now, she really isn't on higher moral ground than Simca. :D In conclusion: Kururu and Emily ftw.

40. Acceptance is something homosexuals struggle with -- no secret there, but I think there's more to gay relationships than 'OUR LOVE IS SO FORBIDDEN!' that can be explored through writing in general. So yeah, while potential acceptance problems are definitely something to take into consideration while writing two gay characters, blindly inserting the preaching and hyper-focusing on the 'we must fight injustiiice' makes things seem incredibly trite and contrived.

AND 41

[identity profile] tsunayoshi.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
41. That's my favorite shit to read and write. I find dramu to be so frequently overdone in fic, and every day stuff just seems so much more interesting and (in some cases) poignant than fighting or xtreme wangst or out of the ordinary situations.

34

[identity profile] nonprofit-whore.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. YES YES YES. That is all I have to say. That, and I was a total John Marshall fangirl in the eighth grade 'cause the picture of him in our textbook when he was young -- YOWZA. Seriously, I'd tap that.

19: Something about this secret made me feel warm and fuzzy. I have no idea who those characters are, but yes, you win an internet, OP.

40: I'm not sure what it makes you sound like, but I think it's a good thing. Progressive = good. Moralizing = massive amounts of fail. Oscar Wilde would beat those girls with an umbrella, and he's the best example of a victim of those rejecting, regressive attitudes I can think of.

Re: 19, 40

[identity profile] iamadoughnut.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair to Oscar Wilde, he actually provoked that prosecution and was generally pushing his luck at the time by being a smartass. Not saying he deserved it, but there's actually some evidence that the 20th century was less kind to homosexuals than the 19th. And that it's generally unfair to pretend he was a helpless martyr.

2. Tim Gunn is one of my favorite people. FIGHT THAT BAD FASHION, DAMMIT!

11. Oh wow, seriously, you're in the Bureau? My life ambition is to become a field agent; it's why I'm going to grad school while in the NYPD (competition purposes). What a shithead friend, though.

15. FUCK I HATE THAT SHOW. Seriously, they are so damn UNfunny, and the only time they approach chuckle-worthy is when Jeff Goldblum cameos.

40. Yes, it does. Edit: Though, reading it again, I understand where you're coming from.

4. >>; ...What series is that? I'm curious.

7. I'm tired of it, too. A male friend of mine got soooo pissed at me for not getting into one of the shounen manga he loves. I couldn't stand the way the women were plot devices/romantic interests only and the excessive fanservice completely drove me away from it. I told him so and he says I'm just being short-sighted. :/

32. I've dealt with something similar. My parents thought it was my hobby with drawing that made me neglect things. When in truth I just procrastinate forever because that's...what I do. >>;

35. IAWTS. SO much. ...Seriously, I write it for fun too and I still do my best to use proper spelling and grammar and take time to work out and read over my work before sharing. But then effing English Majors have to come along and start to break down my writing and tell me what "annoying habits" I have in my style, etc. It's half the reason I've been working on fanfiction less and less for over a year now. I do it for fun, not because I want to be a professional writer for a career as something. If people don't like the styles and human mistakes, then they shouldn't read it. :/ /rant
