20. I agree with you and I've been thinking about making a secret about it for a long time, but I never did. Sometimes people post serious secrets here that they really need to get of their chests and people rip them a new one. There's this grand disconnect with people that once they get on their computers, it's okay to just be mean to people for no reason.

7. Thing is, it's called shonen for a reason. It's a boy's comic. Written for boys. Girls read it, but it's written for boys. So, the main character is going to be a boy, and the accessory is going to be the girl. If it was the other way around, boys probably wouldn't read it, and they're the core audience. Same reason for fanservice. Boys, in general, like boobies, so the manga will provide boobies. S'just how it goes.

If you want a good female lead, I suggest literature instead. Many of the recently written books have smart, independent kickass leads. No pretty pictures, but more stuff than you'll find in a boys comic written by boys for boys.

2. 8D The Japanese bandwagon is something epic, hardcore, and mostly false. ^^ As far as I know? All of those fashionable people in Harajuku are actually small-town visitors who don't really know about fashion, and follow the trends to fit in. =3 Also, it's just fun if you can make yourself look good, coming from personal experience. It's pretty! Why does it have to mean more than that?

though i sort of agree about the ugly people >> *coooooough*

41. GOOD GOD SIGNED. 8DDD The littlest things make fanfic so much effing fun</i. I mean... baaaaaw sorikai eating lunch at a fast food restaurant somewhere. x333 I can't imagine anything cuter.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
35. It is a hobby. Yes. So is knitting or drawing or playing guitar. But I don't want to be knitting scarves forever--I want to learn how to make a sweater, and maybe even one day, a friggen cool Mod pea-coat. I definately want to improve my drawing. And while I know for a fact that I have all the musical inclination of a tree stump, I still want to move from beyond playing the same five songs to playing some fun Irish reels or enough songs to have a good jam with my friends, or maybe even complete strangers in the pub.

It doesn't make sense to do something as a "hobby" and not want to improve. What's the point in repeatedly sucking over and over again?

Yeah, when I do fanfic, I do it for me. Eventually, on one in particular, it helped that I had a lot of nice folk commenting and encouraging my fic, but essencially, I write a story because I want to read it, and I want it to be there.
That's no excuse for writing poorly. And I don't just mean having occassional bouts of bad grammer, because this comment is technically fraught with that. It literally confuses me when people write badly. And I don't just mean coherency-wise, I mean that when I see:

'sokka will never approve of our love zuko. Katara said crying hard zuko put his arms around her and whisper i know my love but i love your more than the moon and the stars and the sun and i will be willing to wait for the day when your brother can accept me because your are my soulmate.'*

Well, a part of my head explodes because I want to know whose brain works like that. How can you function in an English speaking country and write like that, even for fun. How is it that your brain does not have the little checks in it that say "Period goes there to stop the sentence. Comma to indicate a pause. Probably should capitalize that. New paragraph."? If you ever read anything at all, you should know it, and apply it as such. It shouldn't even be a conscious effort, it should just happen. The big, glaringly awful stuff.

And as for bad dialogue, that hurts to. How can anyone not write dialoge? I don't mean dialoge with the snap and zing of say, Joss Whedon or Stephen Moffat, but if you speak to other human beings, then you should know how other human being communicate with each other. You shouldn't have clunky, horribly awkward lines that no one would ever say because you should know better simply by interacting, by conversing, or even just by watching TV.

*pant pant pant*

And OP, keep in mind, when I say "you" it's a general "you." I don't mean you in particular, because I have no idea what you write like. I just kind of got started and didn't really stop. I think I'm okay and better and all now. Phew.

*Fic cracked out of my own brain. I don't hate myself enough to look up badfic right now.

41. I'm dreadfully guilty of that one, but I don't care. The longest fic I ever did was when I took a mutant terrorist from X-men and had him sit for three days in a normal girl's flat recouping. Yeah, a bit of Sueing went on, I'm sure, but largely, I just wanted to see what Mort was about when he wasn't killing people and being generally naughty. If you've got bizarre or seemingly evil characters, odds are, I want to watch them eat their breakfast more than fight some huge battle.

Makes writing difficult, when you know they should have some sort of physical conflict. But eh, it's fun.

Can't agree with this at all.

Martha was more intelligent perhaps and maybe even a little more resourceful but that doesn't make her instantly better for him than Rose. Watching series 3 I had two reactions. 1. Oh ffs why cheapen Martha's character with this obsessive unrequited love business?! and 2. If he wasn't comparing Martha to Rose he was just complaining at her and getting frustrated with her. I mean, wtf?!

How does that make her "better for him" than Rose? She was just the most pathetic character. I'm not being a rabid Doctor/Rose fan, I geninely believe she could of been so much more--an equal--something more "Old Who" where the focus was back on the sci-fi and not the relationships. But RTD (God I wish Americans would stop calling him Rusty -.-) wanted to show how scarred the Doctor was from losing Rose and seems the only way he saw to do that was by bringing in someone who was one big plot device to challenge his feelings and ultimately fail.

I think 'Tooth and Claw' from the second series had elements of Rose's reactions and attitude that showed exactly why the Doctor fell in love with her. She's just like him in the face of danger--fearless and mesmerized by everything around her, she lives for the life with him because she feels there is nothing left behind her. Even in the most dangerous of situations they have moments of somewhat inhuman amusement and what life has thrown their way.

Sure, it's not a good way to be and like Rose's mother warned, she might end up one day not even being her self, a byproduct of living a dark life wearing a carefree smile, but she's willing to take that risk to be with the man she loves as long as she can. The Doctor, I strongly believe, feels the same way for her.

How does that make her "better for him" than Rose?

It doesn't. That's why it's called a personal opinion. Personal opinions don't follow any form of logic, they're irrational to some and reasonable to others.

Wake up and smell the common sense.

Haha. I am the same exact way. Before fandom it was... well, that was so long ago that I don't remember but yeah. Even if I don't have something going on in fandom I'd rather do anything else than what I'm supposed to. I could write a list right now...

2. I cannot see how anyone could wear loli fashion in public. I don't Get It. It's... not very fashionable! Dude!

But I guess it's like kids who wear goth clothing everywhere. It's not really about what's flattering... pshaw

35 - I see your point about why you write fanfic. I'm not writing fanfiction because I want to be a published author. I was writing original work for years before I wrote fanfic, and I have no intention of getting that published. But I disagree that people who take fanfiction seriously - in terms of improving their writing - are 'lame'. It might be a pastime, but that's not to say people don't or shouldn't take it seriously.

1. *hugs you tight* That really touched me. Sending you lots of strength and love.

1 - This broke my heart, especially with the combination of the themes in the games themselves and what happened to you. I'm so sorry.

The best I can say is that you're clearly not over grieving. As the pain gets less, you'll be able to pick up the games and remember the moments when you laughed at the cheesy dialogue and made gay jokes about the characters and died eight times in that one room and cheered when the bosses did crazy things to you, and enjoy the memories rather than cry for not having them now.

I don't think there's anything wrong with how you feel. Just take your time and stay calm. Two years isn't long to grieve for someone that close to you, and don't worry about missing the party, we'll be here forever.

18 - All my favourite characters get character derailed. You're not alone.

32 - THANK YOU. Me too.

I feel you, 15. I can't finish an episode of Tom Goes to the Mayor, and it's not even worth it to try the new one.

30. Personally, I don't think it matters. I feel awfully bad for Martha because she was awesome and got ignored by a mopey Ten, but in the end that was the choice he made. It's a canon I don't necessarily agree with, buuuut. That's how it rolls. (And I miss Romana, anyway.)
...Uh. I'm probably not putting my opinion well. Oh well 8[

31. Spencer ♥ Those were incredible episodes. Fucking awesome. Especially because they made the website really exist 8) But yeah, I loved those episodes. I adore Reid, but it was intense to watch him struggle with his torture and the aftermath.

41. No, and I love you for doing that 8)

OH HELLS YEAH JADE WARRIOR! It may be a bit wacky and the dialogue may occasionally be sucktastic, but the movie is AWESOME. I waited two years to see it, and the director is my personal hero. A Finnish movie that isn't about the war or sex-starved 30-somethings, fuck yeah.

30. Joining the chorus of "read seinen." :D Hellsing, Blade of the Immortal, Battle Angel Alita, Excel Saga (for crack), etc. Avoid Trigun, though. Girls are totally overshadowed. :/
