I wish more people thought like you. <3

7. That is the reason why I very rarely read and enjoy shounen. If shoujo feels all alike for you, you can try josei and seinen; granted there are seinen manga that screams 'sexist' *coughsanctuarycough*, there are plenty of other options *coughhirokiendo/jiromatsumoto* for you to choose from.

14. Eh... I'd take Kururu, Emily and Yayoi over Ringo and Simca anyday.

17. I haven't even played the game (I will though, one day!) but I'm already having pedophilic fantasies of Chopin hitting on Polka. I-I honestly don't know what brought that up...

[identity profile] purple-kama.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Guys, if you really care for your secrets, STOP UPLOADING THEM ON IMAGESHACK ALREADY!

Now then...

7. Funny of you to mention that, I was just having those thoughts about Naruto... and Bleach, to an extent.

12. At least for the first part, I totally hear you. I'm the epitome of fandom niche dweller, and it feels lonely at times.
(Unrelated, but not that much: I really loved that cartoon)

23. Heh, I'm exactly like Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga from Azumanga Daioh, so I never get "slashed" in any way. Maybe that's a good thing...

...or maybe not.

Well, live the dream, my friend.

2. About worrying about what Tim Gunn would say, I am TOTALLY like that too, lately! I bought his book recently and now I'm like, "Oh no! This shirt cuts off at the widest part of my hips! Quel catastrophe!" >.< I love that guy!

9. I agree with you about Haruhi, although I admit I haven't watched very much of this show at all (I think I couldn't make it past the first episode precisely because of her).

18. I have the same problem, but with couples. You have my sympathies!

20. I've had similar thoughts before. I think the reason people keep their secrets secret is precisely because they're afraid of people's negative reactions. But, then again, they submit them of their own free will...but it's still sad to see people bashed so harshly (yeah, yeah, I know it's the internet). Anyway, I think it takes some courage to submit some of these secrets, even anonymously (I've thought about doing it but I don't have a cool graphics program and I'd be too worried of people's "Ew, ugly secret!" reactions. See? Courage is needed! ^_^;).

41. I don't think it's a bad thing at all! I actually like those sorts of scenes best. I like knowing character's little quirks, like how they sleep or eat and things like that. I think it gives another glimpse into the character somehow. And, I might totally be in the minority here, but...I'm actually least interested in action and fighting scenes. Maybe it's because when I read them I have a hard time keeping up with what's going on and just think "Ok, so they fought and that guy won and the other one is armless now somehow. Got it."

(Anonymous) 2007-12-19 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
9. I disagree. Actually, Haruhi was one of the only reasons why I watched the show, other than VIRAL MARKETING and Ryoko.

17. Ahaha, oh wow. Music-sex FTW.

23. Konata/Kagami, OTP for life.

44. lol'd HARD

(Anonymous) 2007-12-19 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
1. I'm so sorry for your loss. I've never had an experience like that, so I can't really relate, but I hope that someday you'll be able to continue playing. Don't beat yourself up about it, though; it's not your fault. Just give it time. ♥

3. I kind of wanted to become friends with some of the BNFs too - not because of their status or anything, but because they seem like really interesting people. I'd hate to be a BNF myself, though.

6. I have a feeling that I might know who this is about, but probably not, since the Persona 3 fandom is so huge.

7. I recommend D.Gray-man and Claymore, and possibly Bleach.

9. While I like Itsuki/Kyon a little bit, and agree that Itsuki could probably be gay for Kyon, it's not going to happen. Haruhi/Kyon is the OTP for that series. And uh, the show is kind of about her (and there's so much more to it than gayness), so if Itsuki/Kyon buttsex is all you're watching it for, then uh yeah.

14. Yes, Simca is extremely manipulative and pretty dishonest, so I can see where you're coming from. Personally, I think she's an interesting character, and I don't mind her, but Kururu and Emily (especially Kururu) are my favorites all the way ♥

17. Eternal Sonata secret \o/!

Bleach is really...in the middle. It has OBVIOUSLY fanservice females, but they aren't usually just mouthpieces or plot devices--and they can so totally kick ass. Still, it's weighted somewhat still towards the male end of the sector. But it's Shounen. What a fine line to tread >_

[identity profile] eonism.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Word, and word.

2

[identity profile] ignipotent.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
As loli myself, I can say that those pictures really aren't the best example of the fashion. I know no one that would wear such a...large bonnet, and to be honest, bonnets aren't a huge staple in the fashion nowadays - at least for the North American/European community. It is overpriced and can be impractical, but honestly, it's in no way demeaning. If you know what suits you, and know how to coordinate (hair, dress, make-up) you can really make the fashion look nice. :/ And there are so many subsets to the fashion: aristocrat, punk, pirate, sweet - it's not all pink, frills, and baby bonnets.

...and, yeah, Tim Gunn would probably beat a loli with her own parasol if seen the street. D< But from my personal experience, I've gotten many more good comments about the fashion from normal everyday people, including straight-laced businesswoman. Fashion is not only about how people perceive you, but what you feel comfortable in. ._.;

I don't think it's demeaning at all.

Re: 2

(Anonymous) 2007-12-19 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
The demeaning factor is only part of it. Basically, my main problems with the loli genre can be summed up as follows: too expensive, costume-y but ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT accept itself as such, and containing so many obscene, nit-picking rules that it seems like an exclusive Girls Club at times (by which, I mean, most of the time). And while I understand that fashion - or high fashion, which I personally don't consider EGL to be - is and will always be a luxury and a privilege, this particularly trend is clearly geared towards the teenage market. These are people who don't even make money yet, and because of that, I think the trend promotes negative ideas about fashion in young people.

I think my feelings about actually good EGL (it exists) would be pretty similar to how I would approach a haute couture gown - pretty, but I would be hard-pressed to think of five occasions in my life when wearing it would be appropriate.

[identity profile] shinai.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
40. It doesn't make you sound like a homophobe, and I agree. Fandom =/= soapbox.

[identity profile] stupendous.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
2. I do actually kind of enjoy all those fashions... And I think the images you posted are exceptionally bad examples of all of them. However, I agree with you on the point of not wanting to spend money on that crap. I did purchase a handful of garments but I seriously regret it now (and trying to re-sell them soon) because I am not going to go into debt in order to get full, matching wardrobes. I don't like it THAT much! I'd rather spend that much money on something practical, like a really nice work outfit so I can look good and professional.

10. Koko ni Iru Yo? Oh yeah, that manga is utterly amazing. Most shoujos are pretty much the same as each other, and this one has most of the same themes, too, but somehow the characters and drama are SO amazing and gripping. I cried during the first chapter, too. Oh, I hope your friend doesn't completely ruin it for you... you would be missing out on something wonderful. :(

12. I know exactly how you feel. And, while I know it wasn't your intention, thank you for summing up some complicated feelings that I've had difficulty voicing.

15. Yeah, their latest show is just... ugh. It has its moments, and if they didn't sometimes toss in gross humor (vomit is not funny!), I may actually be able to watch it, but I wouldn't love it. I thought I liked Tom Goes To The Mayor for awhile, but I can hardly be considered a fan since I only liked a handful of episodes in its first season.

41. I'm not much of a writer, but I like to imagine my own characters and my favorites from other stories doing mundane tasks like that. I feel the same way you do about it--it DOES allow them to act natural and brings out their truest personality.

Some of us do want to become published writers - obviously not for fanfic, but you know. Fanfic is an excellent way to improve in your writing. I'm not going to say it's "practice" for real writing, because it's real fucking writing and excuses piss me off.

NONETHELESS. What I'm trying to say here is if it's your hobby, fine. For some of us, yeah, it is more serious. So we wanna be writers? Big fucking deal. It doesn't affect you. I'm not saying fanfic is srs bsns, but dreams and ambitions are, so don't look down your goddamn nose at me for trying to improve and write to the best of my ability - even in a medium you don't consider "serious."

37. Ha ha, I love those commercials. I totally think that celebs are office bffs like that in real life.

44. HOMG YES. BJ AND MISSING LIVER PARTY TYME. ♥

[identity profile] lanoyee.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
7. Hmm. Up the seinen alley, I'd recommend Battle Angel Alita and Blade of the Immortal. Both are explicitly gory, though, and with fairly realistic drawings (for manga), so, err... yes. And there IS fanservice, but, in exchange you get an awesome female lead for each. The former series' protagonist is really the star of her show, and the latter sort of starts out with a male protagonist but is quickly taken over by an awesomely characterized girl.

9. I personally like Haruhi, but I can see possible reasons why one might hate her. xD; Her tendency to walk all over people and molest poor Mikuru does rub me the wrong way a bit.

35. I disagree. Yes, fanfic takes the task of worldbuilding and character development largely away from the writer, but basic writing skills like style, IC-ness (OCs do want to be consistently characterized, too) and what-have-you apply in fanfic, too.
Though, admittedly, I do kind of wonder at people who invest really a LOT of time and effort into fanfic, because I go "why, they could be writing original stories and be famous!" in my head, but it's their own choice and hardly my place to doubt, seeing as I do get the general merits of fanfic. *shrug*

41. Character development FTW! :D

44. That's kind of awesome.

Too Big: I think you're right. But, well, accepting that the object of one's fangirling has serious moral flaws can be tough for a fangirl. :/ At least judging from my own fangirling experience.

Why is 34 a secret but not!secret 2 isn't?

[identity profile] slatterly.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
26. I sympathize with this secret. Although I really just want to smack all the people who knee-jerk assume we just can't get laid no matter what the context. Some people don't care about sex because they just DON'T, you know.

40. That doesn't make you a homophobe. It just means you have creative standards. I don't mind the whole oppression card if it's played realistically and all that, but if the sum total of someone's relationship is wangsting about how they'll never be ACCEPTED and everyone HATES them then they're doing something wrong.

I think there might be an ironic contrast between these two responses but I'm too tired to pay attention right now.

26. Argh, people's lack of understanding when it comes to asexuality annoys me. Seriously, guys, is it THAT hard to believe that not everyone is actually a big pile o' horniness? I can see how not having to endlessly justify it) would save you a lot of headaches, but definitely don't feel as though you can't mention it just because people are incredulous twits.

32. Heyyy, I am procrastinating at this very moment! And I was a pro at it before I even knew what fandom was.

34. AHAHAHAHAHA! (Also, Calhoun/Jackson... hatesex OTP? O_o)

41. Agreed. Give me a fic about Character A and Character B at the supermarket over a Big Epic Battle any day.

[identity profile] pariah164.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
He's a fashion God.

Seriously, he's the mentor on Project Runway, as well as a fashion guru. He's knowledgeable and awesome.

OMG! I saw that move at the Montreal Film festival (ha ha ha, that was a great festival! Wheee, getting kicked out of the theatre due to a bomb threat right before the final five minutes of City of Violence! 8D; ) and it was . . . bizaro. I swear re-incarnated dude and dude without a name had . . . something going on. Also, the fact that Best Friend in the Past taught Main Guy the Special Dance of Special Love that he'd developed with his fiancee . . . yeah. That's also highly suspicious. XD

But for all it's weird quirks, I also really enjoyed that film. so it was a far fetched idea . . . it was an interesting and original take on it, and I had fun watching it (though I was all ;_; at the end over Main Guy's fate.)

2. I do love Tim Gunn. I find myself irritated by his views on a fashion a lot of the time Dude, I don't wear dresses-- ever. I'm not going to buy myself a nice sundress to go out walking because I don't like dressed. Also, he focuses on women who can walk into a high-class fashion store and pick out clothes that fit and doesn't seem to realize this is a problem.

36. I wouldn't mind Mylar at all, if people wrote it IC. That is, Sylar is a psychopathic murderer and Mohinder hates him. The problem with writing it IC is that the pairing is amazingly volatile and won't last because Sylar is an obsessive murdering bastard and Mohinder hates him...

42. The wank comms like it when people talk about them. ... This is new? Why are you surprised and/or gleeful?

Oh, I agree - but I think this is a flaw that inflicts most "high fashion experts", with certain exceptions. I'd still much rather have coffee with Tim than, say, Anna Wintour, though :D
