I don't really understand how anyone could not like Hagrid. He was the first person to show Harry love and care since he was a baby. Sure, his taste in pets was questionable and his brother caused problems, but he cared for people and animals and magical creatures all the same and he was loving person all around.

Eh, I like him okay myself, but he doesn't have very good judgment and he can come across as not learning from his mistakes. That can really grate.

I find him annoying, but wouldn't say I hate him. I dislike large-"funny"-bumbling-but-loveable-oaf types, and he's not even an original take on it. And have a very low tolerance for phonetic dialects. So annoying.

I loved Hagrid. I think he's a good person.
But I loath him as a teacher. I always felt like it was written in a way that we knew he wasn't a good one, but we were also supposed to be on his side? Harry and Ron being all annoyed with people who thought the substitute teacher was better than him was also annoying. Does that make any sense?

I didn't dislike Hagrid, but I also assumed he'd be one of the series deaths, and have trouble remembering he survived to the end, so I sympathize with the second part of this secret.

I also am not sure how one can actively dislike Hagrid. I know different strokes and all, but I just don't see what qualities could merit hatred? I mean, sure, neutral or not particularly fond of, but active dislike? Don't get it.

But that being said, him dying probably would've been more effective. I hated the seventh book. One of the more main characters should've died, and then she wouldn't have felt obligated to kill off loads of minor characters. Ron would've made an excellent character death, but Hagrid would've been okay, too.

Not Ron! I was sad enough about Fred, but I dunno if I could've handled Ron dying in canon. I probably could've handled Hagrid.

I didn't like Hagrid either. The bumbling, good-hearted character who who does ridiculous/stupid things without understanding it (who we're always supposed to find endearing) isn't a character I've ever been able to like. I was expecting him to die in book 7 though, not 6.

I don't hate Hagrid, but I do think he's a bit daft. He can't even spell properly.

And I always thought that instead of being made a teacher after his record was cleared, he should rather have gone back to school and finished his education. He'd even have been in Harry's year I think :D

By the way, aren't lots of people who died written or mentioned in fanfic? It would be really shit otherwise!

I like him more in the movies than the books but I'm not a fan either way. His incompetence frustrates me as a reader. There are just so many competent characters and yet Hagrid is somehow allowed to teach despite being dreadful at it, just because he's a nice guy? He was in no way qualified to teach.

I agree with your apathy about him, he is, to me, the type of bumbling incompetent nice guy that makes me react like "Oh, him? Well hurry up to something more interesting." He just... does not inspire my interest.
