The Earth

I don't know why, considering all the terrible things it contains, but whenever I see a picture of the Earth, I find it so unbelievably soothing. It's just...home.

There's a scene in Moon where Sam Bell has just finished calling his daughter, begins crying, and says he wants to go home and then we pan over to a shot of the Earth and it just hits me so hard every single time.

Help me confirm/debunk a theory

I have a theory that it's rare/uncommon for most people who are in fandom and ship to have only one ship/fandom. In fact, I tend to assume most people have multiple fandoms/ships unless told otherwise.

Does this theory fit you? Do you only have one fandom and one ship? Or do you have more than one fandom (maybe one ship in each?) and more than one ship? Do you only have one ship at a time or have you at any point had at least two simultaneously?

Do you think this theory holds up from your experience?

(For people who don't ship, do you have more than one fandom?)

iPhone cases

So I'd like to get a new case of my iPhone. Which is a 4S. Yeah I know it's a bit old tech wise but I like it. Trouble is trying to locate a new case. Otter box I know of is doable, simple colors which are easier for me.

What are some other options? I tried looking through Threadless but was overwhelmed with too many options.

So on the "answer questions" thread the other day somebody asked me why I left science for the arts and I mentioned I might not have, quite yet, depending on a job offer.

Well, that job offer was just made today, I accepted, and barring imminent disaster in the interim as of this fall I will be Lieutenant Ariakas (Bio-Science Officer for the Canadian Armed Forces).

who or what is your most problematic fave?

My longtime friend tends to gripe about pet peeves or minor grudges when she's pissed off, even when it's because of something unrelated. Which isn't a big deal when it's to me.

My problem is when we're with more recent acquaintances or friends, but she feels more comfortable since I'm around, and she slips into oversharing about old news (e.g. odd segues to things that happened to us back when we were in school together, when the conversation was very much about the present) or things the others aren't parties to. Aside from making them give her weird looks, it gives me a lot of secondhand embarrassment.

I tell or hint at her to stop when this happens, it works and she feels guilty when she calms down. But I don't want to have to do this each time because I really see it as a bad habit more than a series of coincidences, and want to help her stop.
