1. ...I can see this. Very well.

5/6. I, unfortunately, dislike Tidus because of James Arnold Taylor and there's something about him that rubs me the wrong way. =/ I'm not sure why, seeing as how I like optimistic characters. The ending, on the other hand, made me laugh. I will never understand why people cried. The Metal Gear Solid 3 ending? Now that made me want to bawl.

You can dislike a genre of something. It's not necessarily writing it off, you can just dislike it. Personally, I dislike abstract expressionism. I can see that it has a certain artistic merit, I think it was probably an important movement, I've read a lot of works from people who like it and I can see their points, I just don't like it. It doesn't do anything for me.

You're not inherently more right than someone who doesn't like something because you do like it. You can say, "they just don't know" all you want, but it's not necessarily true. It's possible to know everything that there is to know about something and just... dislike it. It doesn't make one of your more right than the other. It's just a fact of life.

So long as neither of us are crazy wankers about it, I don't see why we can't just all live in peace and harmony and all that rot. So long as you don't spend all your time telling me that "OMG I SLASH JACKSON POLLOCK'S AUTUMN RHYTHM WITH ROTHKO'S ORANGE AND YELLOW! HOORAY ANAL ART SEX! BUTTSEX BUTTSEX BUTTSEX EVERWHERE! LET'S DRESS UP LIKE POLLOCK PAINTINGS AND TELL PEOPLE THAT EVERYTHING BUT ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONIST SLASH SUCKS!" And I don't go all "OMG ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM IS SO STUPID AND EVERYONE WHO'S EVER LIKED A POLLOCK PAINTING IS FTL AND ROTHKO WAS A DUMBASS HOORAY DEAD ROTHKO" I think we can be okay.

Also really bugs me when people pretend like they know something about Japan because they watched an anime once. Or like everything would be dandy swell if they were Japanese, because Americans just don't understand their love for animated characters. It's a country, just like other countries, and it has its own rich cultural history and its own unique set of problems that people who get all "japan = anime" gloss over. If you judge a whole country based on a tv show you saw about it, then clearly I want to live in Britain because everyone who gets to do that gets to travel with Doctor Who. Or I want to live in Canada because I really liked C.R.A.Z.Y. Or I really MUST live in Norway because I liked a singer from there once. It's unreasonable. I'm not saying you did that, but I was on a roll. Anyway.

And IN CONCLUSION:

If A = B, then People Who Do Not Like A = People Who Do Not Like B.

Japan =/= Anime.

Therefore:

People Who Do Not Like Anime =/= People who Do Not Like Japan

Therefore, you can dislike something from somewhere without being a crazy racist and/or hating everything from there. (And I think the more appropriate term for your point, by the way, is a Xenophobe.)

Unless, of course, we get to call YOU something for disliking people who dislike anime. Isn't that prejudice in itself?

33. Dude, come on. We can ship what we want. I mean, no one ever says to the Ham or Huddy shippers 'They're just friends/coworkers/whatever! Stop shipping them!'. It's only House/Wilson. It's only ever slash, in fact. Interesting.

16. EEWWWWWWWW BOOKS. How can you like books. I mean, they're so PAPERY and WORDY. EW.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

36. Um, there is an inherent flaw in your logic. I've never actually heard of this show before this secret. o.x I'm sorry if you hate Torchwood fans, but maybe you should give them a chance to like the show before you judge them too?

Okay, posters of 5 and 6? Both of you? Come talk to me. Because I love X and Tidus like burning, and it isn't because of "OMGbishie!" or whatever.

It's because of exactly that sense of "I'm going, but I'll make it the best I can."

I need more people to X-yammer with.

And I still wish it was made XD

I'd be more sympathetic and less 'cry moar' if a good chunk of the anime fandom didn't put Japanese culture in the exact same boat.

I've had a friend that was the Utena to my Anthy. When we finally parted ways, she told me that she'd done everything she could to "save" me and make me happy. Although I never said it outloud, I really had hoped for her to be able to make me happy, as well. I don't think either one of us realized until then that you can't depend on another person to make you happy or save you from yourself. It's something you have to do on your own.

(In other words, I agree.)

And I know what it's like to want a "this character" to my "that character"... even now, I'm sometimes guilty of fitting myself and the people in my life into roles based on fictional characters. But I think that sometimes fans with this sort of mindset can be so obsessed with finding someone to "be" a certain character for them that they miss out on someone who has the potential to truly compatible with them, and not just that character they want to pretend to be for a while.

Heresy! I mean, I agree. So much. Relating to characters and using them as comparisons, I get that, but I die just a smidge inside when people reduce themselves to being carbon copies of fictional characters, even if the characters are awesome. You're you. It's okay to be you. Individuality is good. Group hug!

22. This is just my opinion here, but I fucking LOVE shipping secrets. Can't really tell you why. Sometimes the longer ones point out a few things about characters I hadn't noticed before. *shrugs*

If you were talking about 'I'd hit that' secrets, I might somewhat agree with you.

6: I loved the plot. I loved the battle system more... but anyways hating Tidus for his pants is very odd. (Lots of Nomura characters have weird pants.)

26. Me too, but only because I could use it to get people to read my comic. (They may hate and make fun of it, but it'll have still have been read! BWAHAHAHA!)

36. I'd watch that if I knew where to.

46. Hey, a Pullip I think is pretty, neat!

48: I remember when it came out a lot of people didn't like it, so you're not alone. (Although some of them sorta pissed me off because they hated it for being too 'kiddy' and not have enough angsty yaoi pretty boys and having big heads or something. Which I don't agree with D: But that's a tangent.)
