11. Props for using Sunset Boulevard.

32. Then you don't have to worry about me. Seeing Spring Awakening at the Tonys only convinced me of what I already suspected: there was no way in hell I could like it.

When I was younger, in my preteen to early teen years, I used to love Jhonen's work. I still do, for its storytelling. I used to talk to him on AIM and I'm still pretty decent friends with Roman Dirge, but...

I know how you feel, though, but perhaps in a different way. For a very, very long time I wanted to be like Devi. Its ironic that out out all the days to come to [livejournal.com profile] fandom_secrets that this was it as I'm rarely here as I'd found my comics of I Feel Sick and had started reading them again for the first time since I was probably about fourteen. I had wanted to go to art school for several years even after I forgotten about them, before finally dropping the idea when I was around seventeen. It was kinda as homeage to her unintentionally as my own demons tended to haunt me when it comes to my artwork. And I painted to distract myself from myself.

Those comics had scared me, though, for a very long time. I'd say about almost eight years now. I had a bestfriend who slowly began to unwind mentally during the time when they were first published, but I had tried to be there during her time of need while she was seeking councelling. One time we dressed up as Johnny and Devi for Halloween (It was for a big outting between all of our friends, though) and it was shortly after that when she used the comics and her delusions as some sort of justification to try and remove me from existance. After she was removed from my home and put in the hospital, I locked those comics in my cedar chest and like I said, only discovered them recently after moving. It was kind of a very strong moment for me, emotionally. And I still feel bad for what I did to my friend, then, as I never saw her again. Even if it was what had to be done.

I guess that's kinda a retarded secret in and of its own. Sorry to ramble, but this secret reminded me of one of my own. :(

I have nothing to do with the OP, and I haven't read the comics, but I do want to say that I'm very sorry that happened to you. That must've been very hard for you to be treated like that by your best friend.

10. This is going to sound ridiculous, but I love you for making the percentage what it was. 87 is my favorite number and I'm probably part of that percentage, so it made me dorkily happy.

31. It's funny, because that's what makes me dislike characters the most. It's a choice that people in anime make far more often than people in real life--and the people who do it tend to do it without any regard for their own life. It isn't portrayed as a difficult decision, and that bothers me. I want to see someone struggle with it, to show that they value their own life too, it's just that this is more important. Or, to put their own life first, as most real people do. I never see that in anime.

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
I want to see someone struggle with it, to show that they value their own life too, it's just that this is more important. Or, to put their own life first, as most real people do. I never see that in anime.

This is exactly what happens in both xxxHolic and Saiyuki manga. By caring about yourself and your life, you show respect and caring for the people who care about you.

OTOH, I've a great weakness for sacrifice as well - as long as it really is meaningful. It doesn't have to be death; a person sacrificing their chance of happiness for the one they love and then still struggle on gets me every time.

Though really, it's nice at times. 8D I can fangirl at him all I want and he isn't phased by it whatsoever. Though it does kind of get weird when we argue pairings and share doujin. XDDD;

Whoa? For realz no dealz?! You really have the same "problem" as me? It's like the best relationship in the world, but I feel a little creeped out that his yaoi porn collection is so hulking and that we share a Y!Gallery account, but we still have <3s for eachother (and this means he's open to the possibility of a threesome staring me as the only woman)! ^_~.

[identity profile] bodyline.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I agree and disagree. Characters like that are interesting but at the same time, when that's all that there is to their character? It's just annoying, especially when it's shoved into your face. THIS CHARACTER SACRIFICES EVERYTHING, HE'S SO SELFLESS, blahblahblah. I'd rather take one meaningful, selfless act than have a character who just keeps sacrificing and sacrificing to the point where I just don't care anymore.

Damn right, Lansbury for life! I prefer my Mrs. Lovett completely bugfuck insane, thank you.

Hearn and Lansbury is also the only depiction of the Sweeney/Lovett relationship that I truly adore. It's so twisty and dark.

Having been on both ends I preferred not being asked, to getting my hopes up that there'd be RP and then staring at inactive journals while my friend continuously linked me to the other game she's in.

She changes new favorite game once a week, somehow I think even if I wanted to join the new one, she'd have moved on to something else by the time I got there.

56. Garth Nix FTW.

4. Aw, that's sweet in an odd sorta way; my Simon muse could definitely use a more active Kamina, but if it ain't Mari who made that, I dunno who else it could be. XDD Hrm~

6. Luigi has always been a favorite of mine. Next to Bowser and Iggy Koopa, he's definitely my fav.

13. I...never got that meme either, but it's fun to poke fun at.

39. Why do you need to keep it a secret that you love his sideburns? Is there something shameful about that?

43. I love Owen in all his twatishness. They seem to be dialing him down this season. Bring back UtterPrick!Owen, I say!

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I get a little confused about why these things need to be secrets. Not always, and I uh, posted one myself, but are there really people out there ready to say "She likes his sideburns? Burn the heretic, now!"

26. Cougar is the straightest, greatest man to wear that much pink and purple. I've watched the series so many times, and he only gets better.

[identity profile] aishiteru.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
32. 8DDDDD I saw it months before it won all those Tony's. I have a playbill signed by the entire principal cast and my friends and I actually had a long conversation with John Gallagher Jr. (he's one of the sweetest guys ever). That playbill, by the way, is my TREASURE. That said, don't hate the fans who came in after the Tony's. Love them for making the show more popular and giving that excellent cast the recognition it deserved. They worked on it for years and years, they deserve all the fans they've got these days!

56. ... what about people who love both? ): I love Twain and Austen, but I grew up on fantasy from people like Nix, Jones and Jacques.

66. LMFAO. At least you're honest about it. .. in a secret but whatever.

[identity profile] ruffwriter.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 03:02 am (UTC)(link)

We don't exist apparently. *love for Nix AND Austen, dammit*

62. I feel the same way. I just turned vegetarian and while I'm not doing it for the cosplay, some little part of me inside is going "omg what if i lose enough weight to actually cosplay?" haha. <3

[identity profile] chokethewind.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:10 am (UTC)(link)

11 EXCELLENT SECRET EXECUTION. A++++++
♥Sunset Boulevard♥

58 I'm an art history major. Trust me, The DaVinci Code is full of poorly-written plot-twists, inaccuracies, and FailGet. If you want a good Art History-centric mystery/conspiracy book, read Arturo Perez-Reverte's The Flanders Panel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Flanders_Panel) and Orhan Pamuk's My Name is Red (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Name_is_Red) (he won the Nobel Prize for Literature). My Name is Red is super-interesting because it's about how the concept of perspective was introduced to Turkey and Turkish art, and every chapter is told in first person, but the person who is narrating each chapter is different - so it's about perspective, and perspective is constantly shifting. ♥ Seriously, it's awesome.

The Flanders Panel is about "The Chess Game" (this acutally exists), a Flemish work from the 15th century with a mysterious message written in the underpainting ("Qvis Necavit Exvitem" or "Who killed the knight?"). It's also an insanely good read. :D The protagonist (an art restorer contemporary to publication) tries to solve the murder. :D TAKE ADVICE FROM YOUR FELLOW ART HISTORIAN.

I GIVE YOU BOOKS.

53.That kinda super special awesome. Him saying that, I mean. I hope you have more reason for not becoming anorexic than that. ^^;

58. Ack, noooo. It's full of fanboy French, Italian, and other junk that's very distracting. Don't even bother.

62. I don't know why, but I find this secret hilarious.

33 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-01-30 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka is older than Katara. If Toph isn't younger than Aang, she certainly LOOKS younger. Therefore, if Kataang is "pedo", Tokka is even more so.

[identity profile] sylladicks.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
13. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS MEME AT ALL.

27. It's okay because that comic is amazing. :|b

33. Sokka/Toph is adorable in that "I mock you, you mock me, we're pals" way. I need to catch up and watch season 3 D:

34.

35. There's probably fic out there, but BRACE YOURSELF FOR LATER IN THE GAME, OKAY? TRUST ME ON THIS.

51. I liked Reborn! and Baccano! before the wave hit lol. I still love them both ):

57. GuyLuke and AschNatalia prz&thnxu. But YOU ARE NOT ALONE I just. Can't. Ship those two. I want to ask most of the cloneTP fandom "IF YOU HAD A CLONE WOULD YOU HAVE SEX WITH THEM?" MOST SANE PEOPLE WOULD ANSWER 'GOD NO.'

[identity profile] immortality.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
2. Oh, hell yes.

63. Honestly, it's Degrassi, so I really wouldn't be surprised if they went there. For reals.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
20. I don't understand this whole, "I don't understand how this pairing could work bawwww" bullshit. If you mean work in a happy-dappy successful relationship that ends in marriage and children way, then I follow to a degree, but otherwise that argument makes NO GODDAMN SENSE.

28. Wow, okay, shut the fuck up. If you honestly think wrapping a plotline in three thousand words is harder than writing a good novel? You haven't written very many novels.

So again, shut the fuck up.

62. This makes you officially lame and in need of stepping the fuck back from the internet.

But at least you're getting healthy.

27, 51

[identity profile] leafing.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
27: From my experience, most people who love it feel the same way. It's nothing to be ashamed of! It's a great comic with gorgeous art and excellent writing!

51: For real? I did see a F!S comparing the two once, but I didn't know that the fandom rivalry had actually become that severe. I expected maybe a little bit of wank since lol two relatively new series that heavily involve mafia family politics and stuff, but I didn't think anyone would be quite that irritating about it.

It's really unfortunate, especially since they're both really excellent series as far as I know (I adore Baccano!, and I've heard many good things about Reborn from reliable sources).

Normally I'd be like "No really man it's awesome you should still check it out," but I can't blame you if you're disinterested because of fan-dickery.
