Geass fandom is retarded for being to advertise, without irony, for a Geass RP set in sixteenth century England.

"lol whut" indeed.

Totally what I thought.

[identity profile] kaboom.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I disagree. A lot :/

For one, how short is a "short" fic? To some wrtiers, a "oneshot" could be up to 5,000 words. Short and long is kind of a matter of opinion, and there are still "short" multi-chaptered fics out there that take less than a half hour to read.

Second - authors that write long fanfic, I think, often put a lot more effort into their fics than drabble-writers. As a drabble-writer myself, I have to respect people that spend a collective amount of dozens of hours writing a fic. Not that my writing is better/worse than theirs, but I know how hard it is to stick to one project for a long period of time. All my "epic long" fics have lost my interest before I ever got to post them.

I dunno, it just seems like you're kind of discouraging people from writing long fanfiction. And when I have the time, I LOVE reading long fics. It's like reading a book (only usually with much more porn yaaay). It depends on what mood you're in, I guess, or what you like - long or short fiction.

But I don't think writers are any less talented just because they write long fic :/ Quality comes first, to me.

And people that don't finish? At least they tried. Points for attempting.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Not to mention the pacing and continuity issues that pop up in epicfic. I know, I know, "bawww words are so hard to choose and make perfect in a drabble", but the same is true in important scenes of anything longer =\

It always makes me laugh that while I'm in love with him (god, a good part of fandom is), I know it's practically an eternal fact that he consistently will fail to win any woman's affections in the series. Oh, Sanji XD ♥

40

[identity profile] ebony-creme.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, everyone I know laughed at the film when it came out, because we live in a rural area. Walking through a forest is everyday life and not scary (omg, the trees are making noises, eeeeeeghhhhh!!). However, I do still get thrills out of watching the movie just based on the psychological aspect. Sure, you can laugh at the characters freaking out, or you can try to put yourself in the situation, in which case it messes with you a bit. Yes, I've thought about this way too much... /nerd.

27. I love that comic too.
40. If it helps I found the promotional fake documentary really scary?

[identity profile] el-hustino.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
6. There is something really inspiring and enjoyable about a courageous coward.

7. I don't even know what made me giggle more: the foot comment or how grumpy he looks. Also, I can't stop looking at his chin.

8. Sorry, despite as much as I feel for you and agree...it's not happening. Or, rather, it didn't happen. Sakurai, Inafune, Nintendo, and Sora Inc really dropped the ball with that.

9. I want to know if the person right in the center is male or female. I mean, I find him/her incredibly hot but I'm curious.

25. Whoa, you feel like a beard? Either that's a typo or a missed this week's metaphor note.

26. Hahahaha, freaking Cougar, skating around in a bright pink body suit. Hahahaha. Only a real man can do that.

34. Whoa.

42. That's what's called i-ron-EEEE!

48. House makes me feel that way because of how much I connect with him, but then I realize that's hilarious.

53. What Shikamaru speaks of is trufax!

62. I don't see why people have such a hard time balacing 'RL' and 'online'. I've got a good dozen online friends I talk to on a very regular basis and I also have a dozen RL friends I hang out with daily and do things with all the time. Why is it one or the other?

25

[identity profile] ryuutchi.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
A "beard" is a slang term for a woman that a guy uses to mask the fact that he's gay.

Adorable secret, and such pretty art. What's it from?

I totally hear you on that one. I do the same thing with my RP partner. Though really, I don't think it would make you a shitty friend. I would think it would be a compliment. It might creep them out, but then again, you never know. Maybe the same thing happens to them and you have no idea. Which is pretty much the sexiest thing in the universe.
Clearly you should just meet up and start a relationship and have wild crazy live action roleplay sex. True story.

I second this, because wild crazy live action roleplay sex is really fucking hot. Trufax.

2. Fuck yeah.

13. Huh?

24. I kinda know what you mean. I hate when people post tons of secrets on the same topic, all the secrets I've posted except for like 3 -- and I've posted at least 25 -- are about the same goddamn fandom. :(

28. What about those of us who spend hours on end writing enormous outlines and making detailed notes, who work hard to make sure we don't contradict what we've previously written, who don't post until we have a sizable amount already written and then try to keep always a little ahead, posting regularly until we finish our epics?
Short fic requires an entirely different execution. Each has its merits; end of story. Can we stop the wank now?

31. I KNOW.

53. He's totally right, you know. A girl with some substance to her, who's more than just a bony little twig, is much more fun to... mmmm.
...eheh. What was I saying?

56. FUCKING HELL YES. I can't stand most of the classics, myself (which for an English major is kinda pathetic, but oh well).

N!S 2. Congratulations, I'm sure you already have for that.

TB 1. Heya, there, I think you forgot a preposition.
Also, lol troll.

I fell into anime fandom in my high school pretty much exactly the same way. Now I only wish I could recreate that same experience in my office at work.

Also? Image. Dude, is that painting your own? If it is, or, heck, if it isn't, I have to chime in with a WOW. Wickedly done.

11. Aww, don't feel bad about it! Badfic can be highly entertaining.

39. ... After that buildup, your secret seems like kind of a non-sequitur. Did we really need to know how you met your girlfriend to fully understand that you can't tell anyone you find Ten's sideburns sexy?

56. Oh god, I know. I love sci-fi and fantasy, and that doesn't make me less intelligent than the people who enjoy Real Literature, thank you very much. (Actually, I do like some Real Literature, but I rarely enjoy it as much as I enjoy genre fiction.) Also, ♥♥♥ for mentioning Isobelle Carmody.

58. If it helps, I hear it's really badly written.

66. That figure appears to have no nipples. And possibly no vagina. What's the point of a naked girl figurine if she's got Barbie anatomy? (Okay, sorry, that had nothing to do with your secret.)

(Anonymous) 2008-01-30 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
28. Now I'm curious. What do you think of people who write "epic" multi-chaptered drabble fics? Eh? 40+ chapters of about 100 words each. Creative genius or pitiable schmuck?

[identity profile] heron-advocate.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 02:37 am (UTC)(link)

I stopped reading Naruto way before this panel appeared. ( Lot's of reasons. ) And, I've been struggling with anorexia and bulimia for the past year. I hadn't seen this before, and literally cried. Thank you so much for posting it. :)

[identity profile] shadsie.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
28. I seem to only be able to *write* short, one-shot fanfics anymore. I just don't have the paitence for the long stuff, and haven't written a multichaptered fic in years. I don't think I've ever written *anything* that was 40 chapters. As far as fanfic goes, I just can't get myself "up to it" to write something really huge about characters and worlds I don't own. I save my long writing for my original work. I don't know if writing short stuff is a sign of talent or just of laziness/lack of inspiration to spend that much effort stuff I don't "truly own."

My fiancee' is one of those epic writers when it comes to *everything,* and I just don't know how he does it.

42. *Waves* As a fellow member of Antiyaoi, I think I know who you are! Don't worry, I won't spill the secret. And I don't think less of you, either. Sometimes you just can't help what strikes you as hot.

WORD. OMG, seriously. The classics fucking suck and I don't know why there's such a resurgence of them lately. Austin might have been a great writer for her time but jesus christ - some of the fantasy stuff out there now is SO much better than trying to matchmake fucking stuck up snobs who don't fucking care about anyone but themselves ANYWAY.

Sorry to those who LIKE the classics, but Dickens got paid by the word and it shows in his work by how LONG and boring and drawn out it is.

And yes, I'm an English major, I've read a shitload of classics and I still hate most of them. Don't get me started on Shakespeare either. >:D

Re: 56

[identity profile] llamaramauk.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Also an English major who doesn't like Dickens XD But I do actually love and reread loads of classics. However, they happily crowd the same bookshelves as sci-fi, comedy, philosophy, history, a variety of graphic novels, detective novels and fantasy. Good books is good books and I apply the same critical standards to all of 'em. *shrugs*
