24) The Hakkenden! I wish there was more fic for it, too, though it's hard to write for them without extensive research (my area of expertise in Japanese history is, unfortunately, two hundred years LATER).

27 is a repeat.

38) I agree; there just seems to be too much one-sided compromise (making someone happy for the sake of it) for this relationship to...really work.

24 OP here

(Anonymous) 2008-01-31 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, it applies to more than just The Hakkenden. It applies to every obscure fandom out there that sees labors of love go completely unnoticed by the supposed 'fans' of the source.

FIRST OF ALL, 23, ILU SECRET MAKER. AND 31; Did you even read/watch the end of the series? Let's see, after his quest for 'justice' which lasted for about the time it took between his first killing and whenever he met Ryuk (do you remember the hundred or so criminals names mentioned? I highly doubt the news would be reporting so many criminals AT THE SAME TIME), and then continued to kill people and treated people that opposed him as 'evil'. Yes, Raye Penber and his fiance, L, Mello, (technically it wasn't Light that killed him, but the Death Note via Light's instructions), Matt, (killed by a load of angry Japanese men for Kiras 'cause'), his own FATHER died for his own gain, (Gave up half his lifespan for the Shinigami eyes to get Mello's NAME). I'm sure they all did such terrible crimes to deserve to be killed. I'm sorry for your loss, and everything. I can't say I know exactly how it feels but let me tell you this; Light may have had good intentions when he first started with the Death Note, but in the six years he owned the Death Note he became a mass-murderer, he never experienced loss until his father died, and felt it was his 'right' to rid the world of criminals. He was, ultimately, nothing but an immature (and clever, I can admit he was VERY clever)- little boy. Erm, spoiler warning for the end of Death Note with the links to the pictures below?: Did you read the end of Death Note? Let's take a look here (http://i28.tinypic.com/2lvxpw6.jpg) and here (http://i26.tinypic.com/2e3vjoi.jpg). Light ended up begging rather pathetically for his life, he died the way he'd 'punished' thousands of criminals before. I don't know whether I'd call him an ultimately tragic character, but there was definately something within him that the Death Note triggered and caused him to turn into the power-hungry man he became, (after all, if you read the chapters where he gave up his memory of the Death Note there was a total difference in the way he felt about 'Kira'). This entire comment is way too TL;DR so I'm going to stop here. Anyone who wishes for a 'Kira' has obviously missed the entire point of Death Note.

Erm, spoiler warning for the end of Death Note

I like how you put that in the middle of the paragraph.

3. ALEXIS!! OMG, I named my laptop after him (and that was before I got to know the whole truth about him).

4. Copying from other artists is more or less stealing, but copying from photos... I never understood why people get so upset about it. Get an anatomy book with reference poses, take life drawing classes, etc... and eventually, your skills will improve.

There's a difference between what you're doing and what the drama is about on the internet.
Taking a reference from a body pose is completely different than blatantly copying an already published piece of work like the ones the drama is all about.

I suggest going to this site http://www.posemaniacs.com/blog/
if you want good pose-references. It's a great quick alternate to life drawing, just to get you geared up to draw realistic human poses c:

44 There are too much differences between these two games. I never seen people compare them O_o
(Besides, I know lots of people who think that Wow are the best game in the world and the fact they play it make them greater than others)

[identity profile] sanae.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
4. In my opinion it's perfectly okay to copy poses for practice, just not so much if you post art using the copied poses and fail to mention that you didn't come up with the pose yourself.

14. Nice trolling o__o-b

31. Light's methods are fucked up. Okay, now let's guess what I did that he would kill me for!

37. Coming from someone who was listening to Miko Miko Nurse all morning: I agree with this secret.

45. Psst you're not alone (http://www.gamegirladvance.com/archives/2002/10/26/sex_in_games_rezvibrator.html) (kinda NSFW)

14. What. Just. What. I hope to God you aren't in any of my fandoms. If you were I'd punch you.

26. Why D:

31. Wow. While I think his intentions were good, the way he went about it was wrong. Not only that, but I don't think anyone should dictate who lives and dies. It's terrible when others get caught up in someone else's psychotic tendencies, but I still stand by the point that humans shouldn't be playing "god". We have too may flaws and are corrupted much too easily for it to work.

53. HELLS YES. I see where you're coming from, but I think you have valid reasons. Mello went from being a spoiled brat in the first half to being a complete badass after getting that scar. Seriously. I didn't like him at all when I first saw him, but afterwards? I'd pick him over Near, Raito, or Mikami any day.
ext_171276: (Everyone is GAR for Kamina)

ALSO 4!

[identity profile] xandrei.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
4. Everyone has to start somewhere! As long as you know reposting the art that you've copied from is a not-good thing, I think you're in pretty good shape :") Also, there's these things called stock photos that you can use for pose reference, etc. Some have different rules to them, but most are free to use whenever 8D The biggest one I know of is here! (http://pro.corbis.com) there's some awesome quality stuff there.

I also know some community colleges offer life drawing sessions every now and again, so maybe try checking into that. Nothing beats learning the human figure from real life. Photos tend to make figures look stiff and flat. :"3

Anyway, good luck!

I understand, and it's not as if we haven't been painted with the same crazy brush as the 'bonders who are so obviously batshit that they make the rest of us look bad, and who still insist on doing so on a regular basis.

You might want to check out [livejournal.com profile] soulbonding sometime, if you haven't already. Good luck.

Actually when I'm having problems with a pose/anatomy and are worried about copyright I always go to www.fotosearch.com because all the photos there are public domain. WAY better than searching DA or Google because there's no red tape :D. Trust me on this, it's something my illustration teacher told me about. Good luck with your art!

11) I'm super grateful for fandom. I seriously can't find one other person in RL who knows about Torchwood, yet almost every person I've bumped into online has at least heard of it. Ianto ftw!

[identity profile] magharabi.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
To number 4: Everyone who can draw started out drawing someone else's pose. You can't become great unless you study people who are already great. Even if you went to art school, you would have assignments to pick some master artist and copy their work. You wouldn't ever want to claim the work as your own, but you can use it to better yourself. Don't be afraid to trace works that you love. Don't be afraid to have 20 references around you when you work on something original. Even a lot of "original" work is just an artist "copying" the pose of a live model. So don't feel too bad. You can never please everyone, no matter what you do. The best thing is to be true to yourself and do your best to unlock the creativity inside yourself.

Advice for #70

(Anonymous) 2008-02-01 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'm introverted, but I do have a friend who is that mythical thing, the social geek. :) He talks to people in game stores and bookstores and stuff to find local folks with similar interests. I met him through the message board of the nearest convention. Some other RL friends I met after we all posted on some random LJ comm. I think they noticed my nerdy icons or something.

Anyway, local areas of internet + looking out for fan "tells" is the easy way, conventions are another way, striking up conversations with strangers in the relevant aisle of the bookstore is the hard way. All of them seem to work with some trial and error.

These are all easier if you're out of high school and don't live in a small town. But even then, you never know.

Doctor Who needs good downright scary episodes once in a while; the Classic Who has some freaky episodes (well, with what could be achieved in the 60s)

9. Johnny Quest! :Db (....What was his friend's name? The girl and the East Indian fellow here?)

14. Oh, I don't know...maybe because that's how women looked (or may have) like back in that century? Oh and, I dunno, maybe they look relatively human? But I take it, this has to be a troll...right? xD

59. Go, go Power Rangers! ♪ Go, go---oh, sorry, childhood intervening there. Oops.

64. As soon as you mentioned they were supposed to be Sailor Naruto and Sasuke, my face changed from some passive expression to something akin to this: O_Ô;.

(I spent a good few minutes going: "...which sailor soldiers are these two? Why is one of them wearing weird shoes?". Seriously wtf)

70. Hahaha! That's incredibly funny. (the image, I mean)
