21.) Everyone's a hypocrite about something. This isn't so bad. Truthfully, I used to loath fanart/fanfiction with gender-bending, but now? I prefer it over anything else. If you'd like a female character more as a male or vise-versa, why not? There's a ton of shit much worse you could be doing to fandom. And it's not like it's to purposely piss other fans off.

64.) It's funny. I used to be one of those cosplayers, and never thought anything of it. I was appeasing myself more than other fans (no, not for the touchy-feely; simply because who we were dressed as seemed to fulfill some fangirlish desire that needed...fulfillment, I guess). Now, I'm even ashamed to admit that. It's like it just suddenly hit me that cosplayers who pull that 'fanservice' shit are the biggest attention whores ever. But if it makes them feel better about themselves, by all means. At least it's doing something for someone.

70.) Ahaha. Despite my response to #64 and even #34, I agree with this, too. Not for the stupid fanservice, but just for the IC fun. I really, really miss that. Cosplay died for me when everyone fell apart to different fandoms, and found being judgmental more important than having fun.

*sigh* I get so irritated when I see people bitching about an artist who used a reference to draw something else. Seriously, as a graphic artist, you need references. There are plenty of stock photos and stuff like that which you can use to help with poses and such, and my professors always ENCOURAGED it. Many, many of my exercises in class consisted of the teacher setting up a prop or other kind of reference and having the class sketch it from many different angles.

I was taught that using references is essential in learning the basic shapes of the human body. It takes a lot of practice. I mean, I don't often use references because I've always been able to picture in my head how something ought to look, but on the occasion where I don't want to get it wrong, I'll go search for a stock photo.

THERE IS NO SHAME IN IT. NONE. What the HELL? How is anyone expected to get better if they aren't allowed to use references? The problem in the first place is that the artist doesn't know how to go about drawing the pose. UGH.

You learn to draw by OBSERVATION. It is NOT copying. It is not the same as slapping a blank piece of paper over a picture and tracing it. You eventually learn how the curves go so you're able to draw it without looking at anything to help you along.

To the OP, seriously, keep using references. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Stock photos are there for a reason.

64 - While that is a terrible picture, I don't see anything wrong with having fun with cosplay. Sure, making characters gay when they don't appear to be in canon is annoying the hell out of me with most convention skits (if only because that makes up the majority of cosplay shows now...ugh, I can only see the same thing so many times before I'm bored TO DEATH), but that's me. I'm not going to rag on anyone's fun.
