People talk about this show in quite positive terms, but I haven't so much as read the TV Tropes page for it. No interest: this art is HIDEOUS.

at this point i'm beginning to think all these "the art is ugly" secrets are done by the same person. seriously, we've seen this, what, 5 times by now?

personally i wasn't a fan of the style at first, but it definitely grew on my as i kept watching the show. now i rather like it.

What would you compare this art style to? What looks like Steven Universe?

I don't like the art but I'm thinking of giving it a chance, I saw a clip of the two lesbian blue and red women kissing and it was adorable.

But something that bother me about the show, does it have any positive male representation? It seems that the only relevant male characters are the main boy and his father and they are both fat.

Can anyone explain something to me about this show?

I'm never going to watch it but - can anyone who does explain why it tends to be so popular in the SJ and SJW parts of Tumblr? What is it about it specifically?

Weird to read all these complaints about SU being "ugly" when, in my book, it's easily in the top3 prettiest cartoons of the last decade. Characters are diverse, cute and expressive; backgrounds are atmospheric with AMAZING color palettes.

Then again I'm a professional artist myself so I might have a different set of standards.

You aren't missing anything.

The show may have some interesting concepts, but at the end of the day it's a kids show, so unless you like repetitive, silly shows that never fully explore some of the implications of the story you won't enjoy it (I sure didn't).

I wish more cartoons were drawn to actually look beautiful. I guess that's why I'm drawn to anime art styles, or like, the Disney cartoon styles. They're just so pretty. I don't mean the characters themselves have to be attractive, but I really hate art styles like this.

I love the show but I haven't read the TV Tropes either because TV Tropes is... well... it's really not what it used to be. The poor, poor thing. I pity it.

In other news, I like the art but you have a right not to.

I watch with an obsessed friend 'cause it makes her happy, but the only character I care about in the entire show is Sadie, literally everyone else ranges from boring to annoying to me

And yeah I don't really dig the character design too much, but at least the colors are nice

I won't lie, I'm not interested in this because I'm not keen on the arty style - especially for small-purple and tall-pale-spikey and Stevens nose really bothers me.

I like garnet and kid-with-sword though. And the odd post on my dashboard always seems nice

I liked s1 well enough, for some reason s2 hasn't really grabbed and i keep putting off catching up.

I really don't know why the new wave of cartoons have such oddly drawn characters. I find it all bleh.

I find the faces gross. Idk what it is exactly. Something about the way some of the noses and mouths are stylized? Like Steven's nose for instance. It looks like it's melting.
