Re: Opinions people judge you for

Having zero interest in Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and other Christian holidays. Like, I appreciate getting time off from work and whatnot, but the actual holidays themselves? No thanks, I'll pass.

For some reason people get really, really offended (or horrified on my behalf) when I say I don't celebrate them and don't feel any "void" in my life for never having celebrated them growing up. But why would my family celebrate them? They're not part of our culture. /shrug

Sounds like someone is one of them Muslim traitirs.

So you are one of the Christkillers, almost as bad and still a terrorist sympathizer.

Me too. As far as I'm concerned, Christmas is the season for shopping and Easter is for giant chocolate eggs. I admit I sometimes think wistfully about the idea of receiving a lot of presents, but then I think about buying presents and I'm glad I don't celebrate Christmas.

Btw, to the anon above, not sure what you mean by 'traitirs', but I am a Muslim.

See, I love buying presents and cards for people. I love picking out the perfect ones. It makes me happier than getting my own presents. Like, today I found the perfect card for my sister. It is a stocking that says Joy in large letters with a cat hanging out of it and glaring. It made me so ridiculously happy to find the perfect thing for my sister. I love that feeling.

I like giving presents too. That's why I'm glad I never have to. My lack of self-control when I can justify shopping for other people is enough of a problem when I'm not obliged to buy anything for anyone D:

Thanksgiving isn't a Christian holiday.

Not saying you have to celebrate it, but it's not Christian.

No, it definitely isn't. You can take a Christian approach to how you celebrate it, and many people do, but it isn't on the Christian holiday calendar and it does not celebrate a religious event.

No, it isn't? It literally isn't celebrated in any other country except America, and America isn't the only nation that has Christians by far.

Tell them you can't celebrate them because it would be cultural appropriation, and that's horrible.

I'm a Christian and while I oderately observe Christmas (we put up a tree, have presents, watch the two big televised Carols nights, make a shitload of food on the day) my attitude about it is very laidback since as both Mum and I have got older, we just don't see the point in making more fuss about it than we need to.

Easter? I give even less of a shit about that than Xmas. The whole issue of Christian holidays being converted pagan ones eels sharper for me about Easter than Xmas does and the only good thing about it - the Easter eggs - are too bloody expensive to bother about! It's far cheaper to just buy boringly normal block chocolate than pay out the same about for only a quarter the amount of chocolate molded into an egg shape!

Anyway, on the culture part... well I think people are a bit weird if they think you should give a shit about holidays you simply don't believe in.

Yeah, exactly. I just find them, and the general obsession with them, to be exhausting.

I am bracing myself for the Avalanche of Christmas invited from ppl who are worried about me celebrating it (and other major cultural holidays) alone.

I'm actually good guys? It's cool, ok not feeling unloved.
