Ah... haha.... oh dear... I don't know what to tell you except maybe avoid those blogs. Block them from your tumblr and from your memory. Westernize anime stuff and making them look ~*unique*~ has been a trend over since forever.

I can see how others would find it good. a lot of artists get really hung up on having a ~unique style~ and if you combine that with tumblr's pro-diversity stance, this seems like a logical conclusion. plus, drawing anime is seen as "childish" so some artists actively try to get away from it.

The art style that bugs me is when people draw the nose different colors from the rest of the body. The ONLY series that works in is Animal Crossing since all the humans have red noses. Everywhere else it looks like they're either drunk or severely frostbitten.

I agree that some of the art looks... so ugly that they I wonder if it's on purpose or just their style. I think it's just the general aesthetic tumblr users have. I see that "ugly" art get thousands of notes whereas cleaner looking stuff is not nearly as popular.

Not to mention making every character fat and giving them freckles and darker skin regardless what they actually look like. Tumblr just eats that shit up.

Anyways, I prefer weird art styles over generic animu moe blob shit.
It's more interesting to look at and it can provide unique viewpoints and opinions based on certain characters and tv shows.

This reminds me of the more whacked-out webcomics like Zoophobia or Monsterful. I feel like there's some difference, though, some essential stylization that makes those comics easier to take. I'm not an artist, so I can't quite put my finger on it.
