22. I feel you so much on this. I actually only have one close friend who knows that I watch it RELIGIOUSLY (ohgod OnDemand you're a saint) because, while she is a fan, she doesn't have access to the show or to the internet enough to know just how BAD the fandom is. I'm so glad that I know she's above all that trivial BS. Seriously, can't people just WATCH a show anymore and not turn every little thing that the writers do in to a wank fest? 38. I can't say it was my 'first', because honestly cartoons came first for me, but for my bandom phase when I was younger, it hit #2, and even that comes back to haunt me sometimes. Its a good thing my friends aren't the mercilessly mocking type. :P

I was going to make basically this exact secret, myself. I get so tired of all the character hate and all of the "THIS SHOW IS SO TERRIBLE BUT I WATCH FOR TEH GHEY LULZ" secrets.

iawtc. I hate it when people take this show too seriously. It's silly and campy and wonderful. It has some very serious moments, and some very horribly acted moments (Barrowman, I'm looking at you). But the hate in the fandom is almost unbearable. I always feel so weird for loving the entire team, and not being a Gwen hater or something... (Gwack does piss me off though, but I try to keep quiet about it... people have their tastes)

Most of the reasons why people don't like Apollo Justice seem to be centered on other aspects of the game instead of simply the lack of cast members from PW 1-3. I know a lot of my dislike for it stems from the fact that it focuses TOO MUCH on Phoenix, an old cast member. Sure, there are some that hate AJ for not having Phoenix as the playable main, but a lot more that dislike it for other reasons.

16. I understood less and less of this secret as it went on. Anyhow--I think 'normal' sexuality is (and always has been) just far weirder than you give it credit for. Fandom's nothing new. Spend a day in the library reading 120 days of Sodom or the Story of the Eye. . .or, heck, even any version of any culture's mythology not written by Bulfinch or made as an illustrated guide for children (including the Bible) and I guarantee you, you'll never turn a hair at anything you see in fandom ever again. (I suppose it's possible that freaky porn would just cease to exist altogether in any culture that had a completely ~*~healthy~*~ attitude towards sex, just as Marx thought religion would cease to exist once global revolution satisfied all the desires people felt but had no real outlet for under capitalism. Until then, enjoy your tentacles. <3)

They weren't really my first fandom (Hanson technically was), but they were my first huge, over the top, OMG OMG fandom...

I still haven't left yet. I can't, I've made so many friends through my love for them, and are making even more friends still.

My other fandoms will come and go, but I will always have a special place in my heart for those guys. Always.

Oh, and Brian/Nick was my first slash OTP. Still is my OTP, the one I would still ship if I was told I was only to ship one pairing for the rest of my life.

Edit: I do find it interesting this secret was posted the day after their 15th anniversary.

16 - My theory is, the baby hate (and 99% of the content of childfree is mostly just the anonymity of the internet, people not thinking things through and making ridiculous blanket statements,, shit like that.

18 - I'm a big Wufei fan, but I never really got into the whole 13x5 thing, because of exactly what you're talking about. It just bugged me so much. (And it's not just ideology, either. Listen to most of the popular music coming out of China, Japan, Korea... it's all Western music. Most aspects of culture are getting that treatment)

21 - I dunno, I think Inuyasha fandom is worse than Bleach, and probably draws just about even with Naruto. My solution is usually to find my own quiet little niche of fandom with the other grownups.

33 - I have no idea what to say, but this secret made an impression on me. I hope things work out for you -- either your Sasuke comes around or you find someone better.

51 - That... doesn't sound very IC to me. If that's how you want to play him, no one's stopping you, but... :\ Just really doesn't sound like Haku.

61 - Don't know the fandom in particular, but in general about most high school movies/manga/anime/books/tv shows/whatever? A-FUCKING-MEN. I try to keep my preteen cousins from watching that crap because I don't want them to go into highschool expecting that kind of bullshit.

29. Ha! It's amazing just how bendy the characters of John and Rodney are (in so many ways ;) ). And you know, I think an SGA AU of that book would probably be relatively low on the SGA crackiness scale. :)

56. I completely understand being shy, it took me months (and months, and months) to get comfortable commenting or friending people. But honestly? Overall SGA is a *nice* fandom. Sort of. Plus, me and my RP partner have this whole backstory set up where they were confidantes as teenagers because they both hated their families and couldn't tell many people. But they do have mirroring personalities, you're right.

Well, if you actually read the comic, the jock-character isn't actually stupid and mean. He's actually kinda smart (if not dense) and a pretty nice guy, except when pissed off. And Metis isn't really an emo kid either. He's just a sarcastic jerk.

The comic's supposed to be a joke, as are the stereotypes, so I wouldn't really take it that seriously if I were you. I mean, really. It's just a comic that some person draws for fun, so why get that worked up over it, you know? And I'm not just saying that because I actually read/enjoy the comic (any laugh is a good laugh), because I feel the same way about a lot of things.

But yeah. ...Do people really take it as gospel truth? :/ I find that sad. As much as I completely adore Honeydew, I really don't like her fans. They scare the shit out of me with their crazy fan followings and "OMG BOIZ KISSING OMGOMG" Jesus people.

But yeah, I dunno, man.

22. In other words you're a Gwen fan. It's actually very easy to avoid the hate. Most authors will use a warning if there's going to be any Gwen bashing, and for the most part in fanfiction there really isn't much hate at all. Random posts you'll get more hate, but again, easy to avoid. Stick to the Gwen communities and you'll be fine. But seriously, you must from some pretty tame fandoms to think Torchwood is somehow worse than others. The shipper wars are nonexistent and the Gwen hate easy to avoid. As is the Owen hate, and the Ianto hate, and the Tosh hate, and the Jack hate.

Not the OP, and also not a "Gwen fan" but rather an "everyone x everyone" fan -- and there's a lot of bashing all around, not just in the fics but in the discussions. Maybe you just tune it out, but it's a lot worse than other large fandoms I'm in and it's particularly obnoxious since the show goes out of the way to make the characters open minded and accepting, and then fandom goes and turns them all into jealous bitches again.
