57. Dude, Shortpacked secret!

...Robin? Seriously? I like Leslie the lesbian far more.

57

(Anonymous) 2008-04-24 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Leslie the lesbian is pretty cool, but the key word here is identifying with, not liking.

. . . though I do like Robin, as far as I generally like high-energy optimists with high lacks of awareness to their own social awkwardity.

I know how you feel. "A Praise Chorus" has picked me up off the ground more times than I can count, and "Just Watch the Fireworks" runs through my head on almost constant repeat. I loved them when my problems were very different, and when they mutated into something much worse, my love for them only grew. I've actually met them too, and I didn't have to guts to say anything more than gush to Jim about how they're really, truly, my favorite band. They were all so nice, though... I think if I had told them, or if you did, they'd just smile and shake hands and be so genuinely thankful for our appreciation that we'd all melt. And don't feel like a faker - the music touched you. There's nothing fake about that, and that's the part that matters.

P.S. Is there any song in the world more beautiful than 23? So perfect.

(Anonymous) 2008-04-24 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I just wanted to say thank you for your comment. ♥

p.s. Hear You Me has been the one song for me since I started listening to them, I think. But it really depends on my mood, because sometimes I really need the faster paced stuff like Sweetness and The Middle.

38)...Oh dear, can you imagine Luffy on his time of the month? *cowers*

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2008-04-23 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I think Luffy could probably beat up PMS.

because he... or rather said, SHE would be Luffy. And Luffy can do that. She superheats it away with Second Gear or just... punches it away. Or wills it away, which works because she'd be retarded enough to do it and make it WORK.

I think he's fine as a dude, too, and completely awesome. He's Luffy; he'll be awesome no matter what, but...that's sort of why I think it would be cool if he were a girl. He'd still rock.

See, One Piece has a lot of really awesome, kickass female characters already, but Luffy, to me, is...pretty much the god of everything as far as anime characters go (yes, I'm a hopeless fanbrat loser), and sometimes I just think how ridiculously cool it would be to have a character like him (goofy, badass, oddly perceptive, fun-loving, uniquely loving and accepting of nearly everyone) who was, you know, a girl. It's just a brand of awesome that I think would be really cool when applied to a female character...especially considering that Luffy, unlike any female character I've ever seen (and most male ones) treats everyone exactly the same regardless of their gender or anything else about them.

This is probably going to make me sound like a tacky feminist, but I think it would be incredibly empowering for girls to have a female role model who's like Luffy. He can pretty much literally do absolutely anything...it would be so cool for girls to be able to think that they could be the pirate king, too.

07. Maybe that's true in the het relationships you've had, but I beg to differ. And who says that one man is being dominated in a gay relationship, unless you're equating being penetrated with being dominated in a relationship. Fun fact: those are two completely different things. Being on the receiving end of a penis doesn't make you weak or submissive, regardless of gender. It just means that you like being on the receiving end of a penis (It's pretty fun, actually).

The short answer: your attitude is what's wrong with the average slash/yaoi shipper (especially as seen on the Pit).

40. The truth hurts.
43. There are so many more alluring characters in that manga than him. *gets bludgeoned by Ichigo fans*

Nothing of worth to comment on here, just want to express my dirty love for your Death the Kid icon. He is such a wonderful little ball of issues, isn't he?

Okay I lied, re: 43 you will not find any argument with me. Sure, I am hetero and thus find a lot of other lovely Bleachcharacters more attractive than Ichigo, but it still boggles my mind how any rightthinking lady could choose that boy over a real man... like Don Kanonji. Mm-mm.

24 - I really, honestly agree about Darren Shan, but I just can't understand how can you call Twilight crap. I'd be interested in your further opinion, even if only anonymously :D

24 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-04-24 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, oh gods. Well, if you want to know why I hate Twilight... it's going to be tl;dr, i'm really sorry Dx... ;;

To me, Twilight is "crap" for many, many reasons. I kind of understand why it's popular, and I kind of understand why it got published, but there are so many things out there that are so many times less cliche, and the fact that fandom wets itself for stuff like this makes me want to weep.

I'll start with something simple, like characters:

Bella is nothing more to me than a Mary Sue. She's flat and two dimensional with no human flaws, making her completely and totally unrealistic on a personal level. I found it so difficult to see her as a real person, whether she was quiet or had family problems, or whether she was angsting about not being with the person she loves. It's just that she really is the kind of character that every single book-reading tween out there identifies with and wants to be. Look, our lovely Bella is sweet, kind, pretty, a little shy, non-athletic, has a horde of guys chasing after her, and is in love with a very, very beautiful vamp who happens to reciprocate her feelings. (I don't understand what chemistry they have, either, other than his thinking "oh, your blood seems rather tasty, you're my type, oops, i'll just pass this off as falling in love with you. Now i can't drink your blood! *angstangst*") The reason fans love her is because she doesn't really have that much of a personality. She's just bland. You can put whatever face you want on her, and it wouldn't matter. Read into it your own flaws, your own problems. She's the girl who will bust her way out of it with plot armour and loving vampire boyfriends. srsly.

Edward. Edward Cullen. One can't help but like him, at first. I know I did. He has this quality that makes you fall in love with him. Meyer continuously describes him as "gorgeous" or "beautiful" with "eyes that you could fall into" or some such rubbish, and she says it so much that your mind conjures up this godly image of the most perfect guy that you can possibly think of, and OH MY GOD he's pretty and mysterious with that slight touch of danger and in love with this perfectly normal girl that is perfect, and OH OOHHH GODS, I COULD BE HER. *headdesk* He acts completely selfishly, and in a completely contradictory way. Sure Bella doesn't mind, and we don't mind, and Meyer passes it off with her plot armour, but if it really comes down to it is he really that appealing a character? He's just as bland as Bella is. I can't see him as someone anybody could really fall in love with other than just projecting their fantasies into him.

.. tbc. (because this was too long Dx)

11. I liked this secret. I hope you can hold on to that goal and be a hero someday. Then again, being a doctor or a lawyer can, as the previous games, proved, be pretty damn heroic to, no?

26. Man, there is so little love for the burlapsack-ninjas. I adore the little freaks too!

38. Well, I'd at least like to hear your explanation. To be honest, I personally feel that Luffy could just as well have been a girl as a boy, because to me he kind of personifies a kind of courage that doesn't require a gender. Luffy will help his friends and beat up the baddies, and he'd do that no matter what gender he was. it's just who he IS, to me.

43. And clarity regarding these things are always a good thing to have. Question though: why Ichigo exactly? Boy isn't badlooking, but egads so not a sexual creature. I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks girls still have cooties. The bigger the boobs, the deadlier the dosage.

45. Rollo is actually fudge where I'm from! Also, what canon?

n!s 1: ... I now demand crossover with Jim carrey and Phoenix Wright. ANY JIM CARREY CHARACTER THEY ALL FIT INTO THAT WORLD. he's been a cop, a detective, a supervillain/hero he's... man I want him to star in a Phoenix Wright MOVIE. Maybe not as Phoenix though, but come on, you can't deny he was made for that movie!

42) It's not lame. I do it all the time, just to show off the singable translations, even though my voice is terrible. Cristina Valenzuela started out doing it. Some dubs do it. It's fun!
48) I care. You're just shallow.
51) ...why?

42 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-04-24 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
It is fun! That's why I do it. I like translating, I like singing, so, you know, I enjoy combining the two. I'm just horrendously embarrassed to admit it. I guess I figure 90% of fandom thinks it's lame when dubs do it, so why would they think any differently if I did? If... that makes sense.

Freeware that you can use for free!:

opencanvas 1.1 (http://www.angelfire.com/anime/Jessjessica/oc/oc.html) - the only version of opencanvas that is, in fact, free. The link leads to a useful page where you can download it and also explains how it works. While it is a very simple program, you can get a lot of mileage out of it. Even though I have access to Photoshop CS2 and Painter X, oC 1.1 remains one of my preferred programs.

http://www.artweaver.de/index.php?en_version">ArtWeaver (http://www.artweaver.de/index.php?en_version) - a freeware program that is almost like a perfect rip of Painter.

ArtRage (http://www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html) - Has a free version that never expires, but is a little limited. If you ever feel like getting the full version, it's a whole $25 dollars. Also works on Macs.

Those are what I can think of off the top of my head. If I think of more I'll reply here. And you don't have to be shy, really! If you have any questions you're welcome to ask me either through LJ or through email. It's aaallll good.

Anyway, good luck!
