I'm reminded far too much of my time in the general Gundam fandom a number of years ago and how many discussions would come up along this subject matter, and the fanboys would practically be getting hard-ons fantasising about being a Gundam pilot for real. I don't think I could do it, personally. I'm not soldier material as it is, and I rather like living, thanks. Gundams are awesome, yeah, but I could never go into the battle with one.

48. Have you ever seen the stage/musical version of The Lion King? If the movie itself gets you choked up every time (and I'll admit, Mufasa's death almost never fails to bring me to tears too), seeing it with live actors will do the same thing. I can vouch for that. No matter what medium it's in, the story is a very powerful one.

49. Honey, I've tried. I've been attempting to write a vast, detailed epic centered around a particular character for over ten years now, because so little out there with that character has appealed to me. It's just not enough. I want to be able to read stuff about the character(s) I like in certain types of adventures that aren't my own creations. And believe me, it's damn hard to find them.

Anyway...I think a lot of people like Touma/Rowen because he's (at least in long-standing fanon) kind of the "brainy" or "geeky" type, more reserved and thoughtful than some of his teammates, and it makes him that much more relatable. And why they've always paired him up with Seiji/Sage (who was always my personal favorite)...I'll never know. Perhaps because he's a quiet type too? *shrug*

Actually, most of the troopers have more character development if you get the Audio Dramas on CD, and Touma has his own.

I actually recognize the not!secret 1...
It's a DJ called "This feeling is like dying," and some locked LJ community translated it. I don't remember who, though. I picked it up on 4chan forever ago, but I remember someone saying it was a "private" translation or something.

As someone who's been raped I'd take inappropriate fondling from a gay guy as a "joke" over what I went through any day of the week. I'm sorry you're upset by what happened to you, and hate JB for his actions all you want, but from the stories off the set of Torchwood the girls are just as guilty as the men when it comes to inappropriate behavior.

I love the OP of this. Personally, I've been sort of jaded when it comes to that aspect of yaoi nowadays because I've seen so much of it, but seriously, there's nothing wrong with liking it that way, people. PORN =/= REALISM, okay? If I feel like seeing a girly boy in a maid's uniform weeping about some "omg so mean" seme in the middle of sex, damnit, I WILL SEE IT. I don't care if it's what really happens or not, or how it pushes stereotypes or whatever. I've always liked pretty, non-masculine males to some extent. Seriously, ever since childhood. Let me relish in the fact that they're everywhere in yaoi and not irl, please.

20. I also love the OP of this secret, because everything there is true, too. I mean, there's a TON of non-feminine dudes in yaoi/BL, and you don't even have to look that hard to find it. I mean, as stated, I like 'em both ways, girly and not, or a combination of the two--my OTP consists of two very rough, very adrenaline-soaked badasses who manage to be manly while still being "pretty" so I feel a little spoiled, hurrhurr. I think a big part of the problem is that the published things in the U.S. tend to sway towards the stereotypical stuff, so even though FAKE and plenty of other series are out there, people tend to only see the stuff they dislike. (Not that the typical yaoi is bad, mind you it is a guilty pleasure of mine, it's just...I like the exceptions these days.) But hey, if no one else sees it, more for us, right? >:D

It's depressing watching everyone here leap to conclusions based on an obviously, deliberately provocative pull-quote. (A quick Google search didn't turn up the original interview - anyone got a link?)

Obviously, popping one's old feller into the hands of someone you've just met, or someone you have power over, is illegal and repellant, and what happened to the OP was gross and wrong. But how can you lot tell, from those few words, that that is what JB has actually done? We know from interviews that both the men and the women in the TW cast get up to this sort of thing on set. What if all he's describing is that sort of comfortable malarkey between actors?

A short illustrative anecdote. We hear many reports of Mr Barrowman "teabagging" his fellow actors. This produced a horrible image in my mind - until I saw behind-the-scenes footage, in which JB is about to splat an actual teabag onto someone's head.

ETA: found it (http://john-barrowman.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=101&pos=0). The pull-quote does not appear anywhere in the article; it may have been invented by the mag for the sake of a catchy headline. In the article John describes goofing around with his co-stars, not harassing peopl at random. Interestingly, he says he flirts with David Tennant but wouldn't touch him sexually, because "It's not that kind of a relationship", whereas he and Eve Myles mess about very rudely.

(I hope this is reassuring to the OP, who was right to be concerned, but maybe not quite sceptical enough about the press! :-)

Thank you for providing that. This is a lot better than defensive fans saying we shouldn't worry as long as it doesn't happen to us. It's still sounds a bit skeevy to me, but not quite as bad as the quote in the original secret makes it sound, especially considering I don't know the relationship of the cast.
