You probably hate Maya because she's incredibly badly written.

I hated Cameron in first season when she was full of annoying righteousness, but she's matured so much that by season 3 I really loved her. If you watch the eps in order from s1 to present and you still hate her, perhaps a shearing is in order.

I don't know who the third one is, so I can't speak to that.

You do have a valid point for disliking her. I do partially understand (I disliked her at the start for abusing Viral too). But I still don't have the heart to hate her and would technically class myself as one of her 'fans'. No I do not 'respect' her behavior, but it is what makes her character so interesting (and the VxA dynamic so interesting).

Yes, she is a 200+ year-old bitch with a bad attitude to those inferior to her. And yet she still has a dedicated, loyal, almost caring side (her need to revenge Thymilph). Also, she is not unlike all the other Big Four who all abuse their power ridiculously... at least she's not throwing her subordinates into obvious suicide runs like Cytomander is (or suggests that Viral be put to death for defying his superiors like C does). She is flawed, but probably only sees the abuse as a way of keeping her followers in line and would probably reward them if they pleased her.

And I still cry when she dies. Partially because she failed in her own personal task... and partially because I genuinely think Viral cared for her, despite her flaws. There's no need to instantly dislike all of her fans (though it would push it to have respect for her decisions).

Sorry for the long rant. Please reply and argue this civilly if you wish *me likes debate*.

While I can't say much for the idea of respecting a fiction character (the hell?), I do have to admit I find it rather silly to dislike a Gurren-Lagann character for having an abrasive, over-the-top personality. It's a cartoon, and a cartoon where everything is taken to absurd exaggeration and played to be completely non-serious, so I don't see the point in getting offended when a thwarted villain beats on their bumbling subordinate in an over-exaggerated, overtly comedic fashion. Hell, that very situation, in itself, is as old as film itself, for fuck's sake. Are we going to get up in arms when Moe pops Curly now, or when Rocky caps Mugsy for letting Bugs Bunny get away? It's all the same thing.

Personally, I like Adiane. And I like her for the same reasons everyone (including myself) likes Kamina. They're absolutely over-the-top personalities played for pure entertainment, designed to perpetuate the show's sense of absurd stylization. They're made to be fun and entertaining to watch (one in the capacity of an eccentric hero, the other in the capacity of an eccentric baddie), and that's about it.

And yes, the fact that she was kinda hot for a scorpion chick didn't hurt matters any.
