Just read the Sharon Kay Penman book and...OMG.

The Penman book. Ye gods. I liked it a lot, but I kind of feel like she swung to the opposite extreme and made him a saint. And the part with his "eyelashes of unusual length and thickness"... I couldn't help it. I had to put the book down. I was laughing too hard. It's like, Bishonen!Richard or something. What. The. FUCK?

Before I start, I ship wincest, just so you know. So you can label me as a wincest fangirl. :P

But do you really think it's just about getting the girls off the show? I mean, Ruby has definitely improved over her original character, who was clearly a twink. She did just pop in randomly and save the day without any explanation. Once they started giving her explanations, I think she started being a more vital part of the show. I especially liked her in Jus in Bello.

But Bela is really a non-entity. She has no personality except as the stereotypical badass girl who needs to be there to be a thorn in Dean and Sam's side. She particularly does not have a backstory, unlike Ruby, and seems to be a more hardcore version of Jo, with the addition of being a thief, of course.

Is it really such a bad thing to want well-rounded characters with emotions, plotlines, and pasts on the show? They did just fine with several of the female characters, such as Sarah, Madison, Ellen, and Jo. Even Cassie, Jess, and Mary, I guess. But Bela is just the absolute worst example of a horrible female stereotype -- that women only want money and shiny things, and they'll do whatever it takes to get it.

Sorry for ranting at you. :P

43) I love that scene so much. I'm a sucker for St. Crispen's Speeches, and that's a great one. ...I had a Hoist the Colours icon that I adored, and I had to retire it, due to fandom wankage. I'm still sad about it.

48) How is it your friends' fault that you hate gay sex and slash? It's one thing to not like a genre. It's another thing entirely when a gay person talking to you about their love life "sickens" you. I wouldn't want you as my best friend if me talking to you as one "sickened" you and you blamed me for it. Pro Tip: Hating gays IS homophobia.

10 - OMG. I have printed out fic in binders separated by series and pairing, and it takes up most of one of my bookcases. WIN!

12 - OOC yaoi is the worst ever.

14 - LOL. Write them and post them as crack. It'll be fun!

15 - Okay, I'll agree with you that Bleach sucks. But Naruto and DN rock. Sasuanru and Light/L are amazing when they're done well. This will irritate you, but I only know the last of the three yaoi pairings on the bottom. I love Let Dai, I'm almost done with it. It's amazing. But a huge portion of yaoi fans look for subtext. I actually am prone to disliking a pairing if they actually get together in canon -- I feel like it's too easy and that their feelings for each other are less important/strong than characters who share subtext and never say anything. *shrugs*

17 - Actually, the fandom might be crazy, but not neccessarily popular. And the formula is three main characters (two guys who are rivals and one girl), along with a love triangle between them that is only hinted at throughout, and may or may not be resolved at the end of the series. (Especially true in anime.)

21 - I can't even imagine shipping the actors, but BSG rocks my world.

22 - GOOD. Bela was introduced poorly, and that's why fandom hates her. Considering the other characters we have that actually have plots and seem like real people, Bela just seems like female!Bond. But the pandering to the fangirls is what makes SPN so popular. Without that, the show would never have gotten as big a fandom as it does now, and would probably have been canceled already. Also, DEAN/SAM FTW!!!!!!!!

29 - Don't feel that way. Plenty of awesome people love anime. You'd be less angsty if you just embraced it.

36 - That's what I've been saying all along. But RL fame is so unreachable, and being a BNF seems like people could actually do it. Le sigh.

45 - Maybe talk to someone else you know and ask what's going on? Because some things are supposed to make sense. Not FFVII:AC or Tenchi, but definitely Miyamoto's movies. Possivle FFVIII, I hated it though. And Ouran is a big joke about the fandom and fangirls.

48 - That sucks. Maybe fandom isn't really the place for you then. If listening to people talk about slash is making you hate gays, then you should stop listening to the slash talk. Especially considering that real gay people and the slash fandom are so completely different from each other.
