06. A lot of fandom, specifically the male parts of fandom, seem to view the introduction of Gay as somehow defiling whatever it touches. We get this in the Transformers fandom a lot, never mind there's maybe five females in the named cast at any given time.

Yeah, they piss me off. Some of them are all too willing to ignore the growth that Wolfram has experienced in his character (like that dumbass secret back in April). And to whine because Wolfyuu/Yuuram has more fans (at least, in the English-speaking fandom, I was told that Conyuu had more fans in Japan) is simply ridiculous. No one is stopping anybody from supporting their ship or writing fic on there ship.

1. Ah, I do miss that webcomic sometimes. I think that I was more upset that it died so close to the ending more than anything else. Ah well, I still have the "first disk" book that he put out.

7. Didn't see Juno, so I can't comment on that, but I don't think she ruined Kitty Pryde. Hell, that whole movie was a steaming pile of suck and the actors had nothing to do with it. It was just crappy writing. Gah...I still can't watch it without dying a little bit inside.

To each their own, I guess. Personally, I find slash about Band of Brothers and other true stories from the war to be extremely distasteful, considering that the men involved actually fought and died for their buddies. Yes, they loved each other but it's an extremely different sort of love then romantic, and it cheapens what they did and their relationships with each other to have them in a romantic relationship, especially since almost all of those men would be disgusted if they ever read anything about it. These were their buddies, not their lovers.

I'm not ashamed in the least to slash veterans, real or otherwise, though I keep in mind that what I'm slashing are fanon composites of people, not the people themselves. Still, semantics, a name's a name. I've had people claim to know vets or be family and rail against my fic, and my fic has stayed up. I'm self-serving, I entertain myself, I write the stories I feel an urge to write, using the characters I feel the urge to use. If that means people assume I don't respect the men, or even it means I truly DO NOT, too bad for me. I don't think the Greatest Generation is crying itself to sleep over not having the respect of People on the Internet.

So, you might think I'm with your comment, and yeah, it's a nice thing to type up, but what are you saying with it, posting it anonymously at F!S?

Very well said. I write stuff, but I, too, know that what I write is based on the miniseries. I make it a necessity to post a disclaimer, and to this day I have gotten zero negative comments about my writing.

05: I don't want to preach to you, but fandom is only part of the solution. Having a good social network, the right medications, and mental health professionals you can trust are of paramount importance.

06: I think the problem most people see is that being "gay" is a relatively new thing. Homosexuality, however, has always existed. It will take people some time, but they will get over it.
