Well... I think the plots to most of those are pretty straight-forward. FFVIII I can understand, because the main villain changes every freaking time you turn your head. As for Tenchi, I suppose it depends on which series you start out with.

But! Advent Children is confusing because it jumps from scene to scene with pretty much zero transition. Or at least, that's the part that really got me. :\ Even with the context of FFVII behind it, AC is just WTF.

[identity profile] aldriena.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
12. I AGREE SO MUCH. I actually got into an arguement with one of my friends the other day because she was insisting two characters were gay together. If they're actually gay, fine, but if they're not... they're not! x_X

"sigh. times are tough."

no, you're not the only one! he's actually still around, though, (http://ian-j.blogspot.com/) just busy with doing stuff. He just finished directing season 4 of the Venture Brothers.

01. I used to love RPG World! But honestly, it started to suck towards the end, so I wasn't that upset. I hope you've been watching NockFORCE!

09. Oh, me too! Except the "reborn" part, I've never decided what I think the R stands for when I think Kingdom Hearts when I see KHR.

13. I usually scan wiki's plot summary or some other similar source's info on an anime before I watch it. Heck, I do this with most media. Books, movies, live action TV, etc. I don't like reading the full wiki page though, especially now that they're through with spoiler tags! I just scan and try not to see anything with major spoilers.

17. You want to write Twilight?

18. I've had my classmates look at me funny for laughing at test questions. In my defense, it was a test on misplaced modifiers and the things that the incorrect sentences were ACTUALLY saying conjured pretty funny mental images. "The car hit the dog going a hundred miles per hour." and "The bank gives loans to people of all sizes."

34. I'm not against experimenting with pot, it can be quite fun. I dunno, though, I sort of have a personal grudge against it since I had a major disconnect with some of my closest friends when they became major stoners.

53. Not every filmmaker wants to hire a nerdy linguist to conjure up a fake language that people will never learn. If all they need to do to make people suspend their disbelief is make indecipherable noises, why should they make more trouble than it's worth?

not!secret 1: because it's not like she was cast because she looked like the character, and it's not like people might actually picture the character as looking different than you picture her. Your mind's eye view of what the words describe is in fact the only thing that people, including people who've only seen the movies, picture when they think of the character and any example of fanart looking different than you think it should is clearly just an attempt to agitate YOU.

[identity profile] icefalcon.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
N!S 2 - The character I am completely neutral about. It's the squealing fanbrats who go mad over him and make him over into what they wanted Draco to be in Harry Potter that annoy me.

Wolfram fans = whatever floats your boat! Go for it, have fun.
Squealing obnoxious fanbrats who fap to WOOOOLFYYY EEEEE, CONRAD EWWW HE'S SO OLLDDDDD = fucking annoying.

OP Not!Secret 2 Wolfram is NOTHING like Draco!

(Anonymous) 2008-05-08 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
There's nothing wrong with being annoyed by that, but it is also annoying when obnoxious Conrad/Conyuu fans do the equal with "Wolfram is so annoying blah blah blah" and proceed to ignore how much growth the character has experienced in favor of their ship. I love Conrad to death, but some of his fans irk me.

And Wolfram is NOTHING like Draco! If you see it like that, you are SADLY not paying attention to the series. Wolfram *CHANGES*, he experiences GROWTH throughout the series. Are we watching the same anime? He goes from a spoiled brat (and you could argue he has damn good reasons to be that way) that hates humans to a character that lays his life on the line for Humans, takes care of a Human daughter (and yes, it is obvious how much he cares for Greta), vows to make sure that Yuuri's "vision" of peace between Humans and Mazoku is completed in his absence, etc. How is he like Draco again? Do you *REALLY* think that his fans only like him because he's cute? I love him because he's not perfect, he has FLAWS, and he changes. Maybe there are some fans that don't see past the pretty, but that gives no one an excuse to misinterpret his character just because of them.

People need to quit letting their hatred of a character get in the way of what's right there in their faces.

13. Tsubasa seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it series so I think you won't know until you try... but it completely changes tone around the middle, so trying a few volumes probably isn't the best idea either. :/ I don't think Tsubasa is a good starting place for CLAMP.

I'd go for Card Captor Sakura or Duklyon if you lhike light-hearted fun, and Clover or RG Veda if you prefer serious, angsty stuff. I also love xxxHOLiC lots and lots but that one's closely related to Tsubasa.

56. I don't really have Brawl yet, but I have played it at a friend's house a few times, and I guess you could say I main Pit.

But that doesn't change the fact that I'm terrible at fighting games, and I lose more often than I win with him.

Also, wings are cool.

19. There's smut of these two? Where?! (I can't believe I've never looked for it before) And agreed very much about Caramelldansen. XD

52. As much as I don't care for One Piece romance being canon I have a fishy OTP of my own: Tom/Kokoro. I wonder if I'm the only one.

02. I actually consider myself a fan of Emilie Autumn, although I'm probably a bit different from her typical fan. (I'm sort of a...tomboy-ish geek who doesn't really typically listen to music of that sort.) I can kinda see where this is coming from, actually, her fans always struck me as being a little obsessive.

17. Dude, tropes (http://www.tvtropes.org)! XD Tropes everywhere!

23. ...that sounds fucking awesome.

29. You sure you've really tried?

48. oh dear

54. ...okay, fandom peer pressure has hit a new low. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE "SMART ENOUGH" TO BE IN A FANDOM. IT'S OKAY TO BE IN IT FOR THE FUN. YOU DON'T HAVE TO FIT IN WITH EVERYONE ELSE.

5) Fandom is a poor therapist. It's time for professional help and getting to the real root of the problem, rather than just covering it up with an obsession.

12) Sexual orientation =/= personality. How you pursue your sexual orientation is. In other words, if they are flamboyant and in-you-face about sex in canon, and a shyly coy in fanfic, they are being written ooc. If they express attraction to character A in fandom, but character B in fic, no matter what the genders of A and B, that's not necessarily ooc. Sexuality is a spectrum that changes based on circumstance, not a fixed immutable point. TL;dr: Straight men can indeed be sexually attracted to other straight men.

15) There's no challenge to the imagination in writing yaoi for a BL manga. We write fanfic mostly because we are frustrated by the lack of something in canon. BL is already cover to cover sex and romance. What's more to add? I suppose we could write gen for it.

48) I was prepared to say, you know, totally not necessary to read teh slash if it doesn't float your boat, but it's starting to interfere with RL, and that's not good. Generally the way to get rid of a phobia that you don't want to have is expose yourself to it -- desensitize. The more you avoid it, the greater your fear of it becomes, because your fear of what you might feel is much worse than what you'll actually feel. So, read slash fic, look at the manga, watch the shows, as much as you can bear until it eases off, and you can talk to your friend about his sex life without feeling ill.

I do agree with that. And I will say that there's a lot of OOC het and genfic out there, too, and those bother me just as much. However, the yaoi/slash seems to dominate most fandoms I'm in, and there seems to be a large portion (or at least a very vocal portion) of yaoi fans who don't seem to put much thought into why A character and B character should have sex/be in a relationship beyond "they're both hot and look good together and they looked at each other one time". Not all yaoi/slash fans do this, I know that, but the vast majority of it that I seem to find comes across that way. Characterization isn't important, only two guys having sex is, and even that wouldn't bother me so much except for the fact that it's virtually all I can find in terms of fanworks for some fandoms.

Honestly, I don't care what other people find gratifying in their fandom, to each their own. I just wish I didn't have to scroll through 50+ pages on Yahoo!Japan to find one het doujinshi for something I like, or wade through pages and pages and pages of fanfic titles to find one I want to read, or fanart, or anything else I might feel like looking up. I'm tired of feeling like I have no place in my fandoms because I'm not into yaoi. My whining won't change it, and really, I never talk about it because I know I won't change anything, and I have no right to dictate what others enjoy. Sometimes I just need to complain.

15. There are definitely series out there which are better than Bleach and Death Note. Ai no Kusabi is not one of them. (Although I suppose it does have 100 percent more cock-ring castration.)

45. How does the plot of Spirited Away or Ouran make no sense? (Howl's Moving Castle I grant you--that made no sense at all and I found it disappointing) I don't know FF7 at all, or why people say -that's- nonsensical, but there's a difference between something that asks you to suspend your disbelief at the outset about certain things but then builds an internally consistent and well fleshed out fairy tale world based on those assumptions, and something that's just incoherent from beginning to end, even taken on its own terms.
