FECK! ARSE! GIRLS! DRINK!

FATHER TED LOVE!

There really should be some sort of fandom. I agree whole heartedly. Nothing is better then Craggy Island. Nothing!

Dude.

<3

This is the first time I've ever commented here on F!S. But yes. I fucking love Bela :( However, I just got into the show a month or so ago so I wasn't around for the Jo thingy. But yeah, I love Bela. I think I might love her more than Sam and Dean, even though I do love Sam and Dean lots. But idk, I might not keep watching after Bela leaves. I like the show, and it's a fun show, but it's pretty misogynist. And also kind of crap. But fun! And Dean is a pisshead. But v pretty *_* Still, though, the way she goes out will probably make or break it for me. I loved the show before I made it up to the third season and got hooked well before I got to her character, but the show seemed to get steadily more sexist and irritating. Idk. I just don't want to stick with something that pisses me off so often. 'S not worth it. And every comment about why Bela's leaving - particularly that she doesn't "fit" - pisses me off. Dude! You could do amazing things with Bela's character, and what she represents! It widens SPN's world! There's so much potential there! >:\ BUT NOOOOOOOO. Alas.

ahahaha. um. /thoughts

Holy crap. Wow. Who is the one who isn't Aladdin? I can't put my finger on it. I always thought Aladdin was sexy for a cartoon but whoa.

Little Mermaid dude, I believe.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
01. I WAS THINKING ABOUT THAT JUST THE OTHER DAY!!! I miss Eirke. Every time my brother's pants wind up uneven, I remember Hero. And I'm furious that it was so close and never finished.

06. As someone who generally just Does Not Like Slash, allow me to submit Billy Bragg's song "Tender Comrade" as evidence for why your secret is incredibly accurate. I don't like pointless slash, but dangit, WWII is about as emotionally charged a setting as you can get, and the cast is disproportionatly male for the most part.

12. I...I think I love you. I really, truly do. And you bring up a good point. Several. But I do like the whole "well, if you took a gay character and wrote them straight because you just thought it would be hotter for them to be together fandom would beat you down" aspect. That picture makes me sad though. More than OOC, it just bugs me that every good, cool friendship, like the Trio of TOS, gets slashed like this. Ug.

17. AH DON'T TEMPT ME!!!

27. A tad judgemental, don't you think? Just because someone likes Doctor/Rose doesn't mean they don't know and love their roots as well. It's not just about an old guy. It's about an old guy, a space-hobo, a fop, a mad-eyed nut, a pretty-boy, a garishly dressed maniac, a conniving Scotsman, another pretty-boy, a big-eared jerk, and a skinny Scotsman and a teen pop star. Do you do the same if they have cheesy Doctor/Jamie icons or Doctor/Romana or any other pairing here? Or is it just the glut of Doctor/Rose makes you angry every time you see it?

Sorry. I'm feeling a tad ornery today. And I am just tired of the "you like Doctor/Rose and have icons. You must be a noob who doesn't like the old stuffs!"

41. Aside from everything else wrong with those, why does Aladin have such womanly hips?

43. Y'know what? I loved that movie. All of them. I'll grant that there are a lot of places that AWE could've been better (giant Calypso could've gone so many ways that didn't have to be giant...), and I know it was cheesy and a little heavy-handed with "Pirates are freedom and freedom is good!" when the only actual pirate-y thing you see them doing is raiding Port Royale in the first movie and all... but... I still love that scene and thought it was darn movie. If you take the movie for what it is, it's fantastic.

45. To be fair, Howl's Moving Castle is based on a book. And the book has a similar plot (up to about half-way through). But here's the thing. Most fantast/sci-fi books/movies/comics... don't make sense. It's not just anime. (Spiderman gets bitten by a spider and gets powers. Superman's an alien from Kansas, etc.) I personally love Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, because his fantasy world makes perfect sense so long as you don't try and force it to. I don't know how else to explain it, but honestly, Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away made absolute perfect sense to me. I know they're whimsical and technically don't...but they do. Yes? No? Maybe? Lobster?

46. Boring secret is not boring! Father Ted is absolutely hi-larious! I'm not sure what a fandom would add (I personally like enjoying my FT without slash, thank you. Or cocaine. I mean...raisins.)

53. Ugh. Good reason to hate a movie. Honestly, even if you don't want to create a whole freaking language (and who doesn't?!), it's not all that hard to at least come up with a few basic words, a to-be verb and a simple conjugation system. Man, I'd jump for joy to get the job of "official language-maker-upper" of a movie.

61. Aw. That's sweet.

NotSecret1: YESSSSS!!!! Well, not just with Hermione. That's one of the reasons, ages back, that I just stopped drawing LotR. I got tired of hearing that it didn't look like Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, or Billy Boyd.

15. Probably because nothing is actually canon when it comes to bl pairings in such shonen series, so it leaves it to the reader. Besides, they're popular, so they spread much easier than your token obscure yaoi manga.

29. Okay, as much as the the stupid word doesn't deserve explanation, 1) its originally spelled weeaboo and 2) the word 'weeaboo' isn't synonymous with anime fan. As long as you make no fool of yourself, theres nothing wrong with being passionate over anime. Just keep up your grades. lol.

37. whoa, i agree. helps that its rin/archer awwyeah

10.
You... print them out...? Okay.

13.
TRC is something that needs to be read a few times before you get exactly what's happening. I don't have the luxury to do that and I'm too lazy to read the fan analysis so I'm quite lost. And if you read TRC, you should follow xxxHOLiC too. If you want something finished and not so complex, go for Magic Knight Rayearth (two seasons, 6 volumes in total), Cardcaptor Sakura (I almost consider this as a prerequisite to reading TRC), or Chobits.
Wiki is certainly useful but nothing beats checking out the real thing, especially original anime (not TRC, obviously).

15.
Where BL is not canon, there's always room for imagination. If the story itself already contains BL, then the relationships are pretty much set in stone. It would be harder to convince people to ship non-canon pairings compared to those in a series where we all know that most, if not all, BL pairings are not canon, which leaves room for debate and more art and fics.
The other possible reason is simply because series like Bleach, Naruto, and Death Note have more fans than the BL titles.

16.
I'm not watching that show. Knowing such a character exists is enough.

27.
I used to watch that show too!

33.
It's... fake? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OTL
Anyone have the originals?

36.
But if you want an ipod or a laptop...

I like how some of many of my ships just naturally belong together.

That sounds frustrating. Aaaaaand I don't really like RebornxLambo, especially when they go over the top with adult Lambo's whining like a helpless baby. :\

56. What the? It's like there's at least one person for every single character thinking that character is the cheapest in the game.

I've never had problems fighting Pit, whether it was against someone who practiced with him or just picked him up. His arrows and Angel Ring are not that difficult to get around.

You know, I think I do agree with you. Well, sort of. I think about all this quite a bit, and was actually just watching Berserk while perusing f!s.

In my opinion, Griffith could be either way. My reasoning for him being straight is not about banging the princess (honestly, anyone who thinks he loved her hasn't paid attention to the series at all. He has a goal, he will do anything to get there, even if it means banging the princess to get her on his side and move him up). And I’m going to pretend that the argument of him wanting to get laid doesn’t exist and the one of him being a sociopath. He didn’t care about getting laid and he certainly wasn’t mentally ill…

Okay, finally, my reason for him being straight might be some kind of affection for Caska. Outlandish, but you never know. Maybe he felt something for her, but repressed it all because of his dream. And that’s partially why I think he raped Caska during the Eclipse. He was reduced to his most primal form in terms of emotion…lust for power, lust, dominance, having just been given all that strength…he reacted to his old goals and desires in an animalistic way. Enacting what he wished he could have done as Griffith. (Plus, it was a big FUCK YOU to Guts, added bonus!). That may all be reading way too deep into that all. But hey, I’m open to interpretation. My thoughts aren’t set in stone. How could they be, what with the ever-intertwining and shifting relationships within Berserk?

Yeah, he's gay. XD

Wow that was a lot. Awesome secret though.

64

(Anonymous) 2008-05-08 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
I tend to think he was basically using Caska as a tool to get at Guts (hence the stuff later on when Guts goes all sgdlhf with the black dog and almost rapes Caska before he freaks out and stops himself... he subconsciously wants to use Caska like Griffith did in order to devalue her in order to concentrate his energy on revenge) but anyway blah blah blah overanalysis etc. I can also see where you're coming from.

[identity profile] post-position.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
13. TRC is not a good series for someone starting out and not familiar with CLAMP universe, because alot of old characters are reintroduced under the assumption that you already know who they are, and if you don't then you kinda miss out a little IMO. Also, if you take on TRC it's kinda a good idea to read xxxHOLIC too, which is well, more reading XD! But good!

I'd suggest Tokyo Babylon and X or Magic Knight Rayearth and Cardcaptor Sakura if you want to get a feel for both sides of the CLAMP verse (wangst/drama vs fluff).

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
7. You got it wrong. Kitty Pryde almost ruined her. Kitty's character sucked ass. I fell in love with Hayley Stark, and then Kitty made me want to bash my head against walls.

[identity profile] mistressmerr.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Word. Kitty was just written horribly, like the rest of that movie.

It wasn't Dania Ramirez's fault that Callisto was retarded, either.

I think SkullKnight's habit of eating you alive for suggesting the possibility of Griffith being gay is simply an expression of their still-repressed homoerotic feelings for Guts.

61. I just love Digimon secrets like this.

12

[identity profile] likespring.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
no, I'm late! :(

12. A side nit-pick: Making gay characters straight isn't really the same thing. Gay characters are almost always definitely gay. They say outright that they're gay, they talk about being gay. Whereas most of the straight characters that are slashed are simply assumed to be straight; unless they've said "I am completely straight," just because they've only been in a relationship with the opposite sex on screen does not mean you can assume that they would never be in a same-relationship.

(Not to mention that making gay characters straight perpetuates the very real, harmful believe that GLB folks can "change," while there is no similar belief about how straight folks should "turn" gay for their own good.)
Edited 2008-05-08 03:58 (UTC)

Re: 12

(Anonymous) 2008-05-08 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
So.... basically what you're saying is gay characters are gay-only because they say they're gay, and unless a straight person says they're straight-only, then they can also have gay relationships. The fluidity of sexuality only applies to straight people; gay people are only 100% gay forever. Is that about right? Because if so, I have a couple of issues with it.

01 - OMG!!! I LOVE RPG WORLD!! I thought it was just me and my friend Erin who ever read that webcomic. XD Question - have you ever read Omega Syndrome? It was also a fairly popular webcomic (but I could be biased - the creators were friends of mine, lol!), certainly no master piece but quite funny and of a similar vein of RPG World. *sigh* I wish that thing hadn't jumped off the deep end...

12 - As a slash fan (although not much of a yaoi fan), I have to agree with you, secret-maker. Also, that image? H-I-L-ARIOUS!

16 - With a name like "Maid Guy", how can he not be awesome??

22 - Wait, what??? Did I miss something?? :(

31 - What song is that?

41 - ......woah....

48 - Allowing yaoi/slash fandom to influence your opinion of real-life gay couples/individuals is, to put it frankly, stupid. While this is in not way true for all yaoi/slash fans (perhaps not even true for the majority of them), there are many people who have taken certain stereotypical roles and characteristics and... blown them out of proportion entirely. Long rant short, fandom yaoi/slash in no way parallels real life.
