No, there is nothing explicit between them in the show. Certainly nothing to suggest a rigid sexual dynamic. The creator of the show was trying for something non fetishy.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-23 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
If you study it away from nutty elements you'll find a lot of refreshing and representative things. It is far from jerk off material. Although some fan art certainly is,but that's hardly saying much. That's fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-23 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you say that it's disgusting how fandom is fetishizing it?

(Anonymous) 2017-03-23 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
No, fandom s fetishize everything! I'd be quicker to call it disgusting when it's done to children's media, and even that can be ok if kept away from kids being inundated with it. 😘

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
It is disgusting, but it's to be expected of fandom. It doesn't matter if it's gay, hetero, or lesbian fans will sexualize and fetishize the fuck out of it.

"Non-fetishy" get the fuck over yourself. It's fujobait, that's what it was made for. It's not oh-so-morally-pure just because you like it.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
And it's not problematic because you don't like it. Get over yourself.

Where are you seeing that? I haven't seen top-bottom wanks about Victuuri at all.

Anyway, since there's no explicit sex, the "it's canon they switch" thing makes no sense. I'm guessing they're assuming that what they do on the ice reflex their bedroom activities?
In that case, they are probably basing their argument in the ice dance they did together, since they switched who led (though Victor was the one doing all the lifts).

Yea, I haven't really seen full blown wank either. I have seen a few passive aggressive posts about liking bottom!Yuuri tho.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
NA

I've seen it a lot on doujinshi sites and in tumblr wank. It's out there. Fuck, they even get into it on 4chan lol. Except on 4chan it's less "discourse" and more "god shut up u st00pid faggots bottom Yuuri is everywhere cunts, let me enjoy Viktor getting his bussy pounded in peace and bring your autistic screeching elsewhere".

They aren't even together in canon, so no, they don't switch in canon.

If you're into switching I recommend you the manga Orso e Intellettuale. The characters from the first short story switch.

"they aren't even together in canon"

I was confused as hell on this point as well. and believe me I wanted them to be canon.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
You sound like you just want to share the original, groundbreaking opinion that everyone who likes this show is a silly straight fangirl who just wants teh yaoiz and doesn't care about real LGBT people; ignoring that the majority of people who talk about representation and this show say that it's personal for them (us) because we're queer and feel respectfully represented. So, cool story?

SA

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
And the anon two comments above me is right, there's little to no wank about who tops. Kind of a tipoff that you don't really pay as much attention to the fandom as you're pretending.

...Yes there is.

Why are you guys ignoring actual LGBT stories written by actual LGBT authors and choose to focus on the one show created by straight women aimed to straight women?

I still can't believe that no one is translating Sorairo Flutter for instance. As far as I know it's the first shonen manga written by a gay author about a gay love story. Published in a shonen magazine. It's the first time something like this happens, it's making history, and everyone is ignoring it. I know some of the people who claim to care that much about LGBT representation in the YOI fandom know Japanese, I wish they would focus on the actual LGBT story instead.

Lol this wank ALWAYS comes up!

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Here's a hint: The fact that a bunch of bisexual cis girls (and it is overwhelmingly bisexual cis girls, that is the vast majority of queer women in fandom) feel a story about gay men is "personal" to them doesn't override the fact that a lot of actual gay and bi men, cis and trans, have mentioned that it feels fetishistic and very "female gaze-y" to them. And it should be pretty fucking clear it's made for the female gaze when you compare it to works done by and for actual gay men. Like the anon said below, people are ignoring actual groundbreaking work (supporting an openly gay author writing openly gay characters is going to do A LOT MORE for actual representation than jilling off over pretty ice skating boys). YOI is packaged to appeal to the lowest common denominator (like most popular animes are), so acting like it's some groundbreaking thing when a)it isn't even the first time it's been done, and b)for a lot of LGBT people it feels like "teh yaoiz 2.0" is pretty stupid.

Like the damn show. But stop pretending it isn't explicitly made for the female gaze and it doesn't represent LGBT people correctly in Japan OR the US. The Japanese fandom is overwhelmingly cis girls too lol. The actual LGBT community in Japan has been pretty lukewarm on it. I follow a ton of male LGBT anime fans on twitter and the response was underwhelming.

I didn't go into this show looking to hate it. I wish I felt it represented queer men better and didn't feel more like titillating fanservice for the girl who has Free! burnout.

Honestly, I haven't seen any wank regarding who tops/bottoms. As others have mentioned, there's nothing explicit going on in the show, but I have seen many people headcanon them as switching roles in bed because drunk Yuri is something of a freak.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Eye and in the face-hair is always super annoying. Especially in bake-off and cooking shows! Get that dirty hair out of the food!

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think their sex life is ever actually addressed in canon, but the definitely DO NOT have the stereotypical seme/uke dynamic. No significant height difference and both can be pretty dominant. They definitely seem more equal than the typical fetish of seme and ukes.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Not in the fandom but am a fan, and I'm also not seeing real dynamics. Both characters are occasionally portrayed gender-inverse or gender ambiguous. Victor says he used to have long hair and look feminine so wore more feminine outfits, an outfit Yuri inherits while he roleplays himself as a woman seducing Victor. You could say that Victor is a little more "dominant" in that he's leading Yuri at least part of the time and enticing out his inner eros, but they really pretty early on stop having a mentor/student type relationship and end up having a really pretty equal dynamic. There's really zero typical "yaoi" flavor of seme and uke in the anime, they both seem to be seducing each other.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
late comment but I'm kind of dying laughing that you thought a relatively mainstream "sports" anime mentioned and/or showed how the two main characters had sex

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
...THis fandom has some Arguments, but 'who tops' is not one of them. I mean, I've never seen a single argument between people that X tops Y and NOT the other way around (aside from casual discussions about what their first time would be like).

What dark corner of the fandom do YOU inhabit anon? Clearly it's the one where they spell names wrong, but I would think even people who can't read the source material could have a civilized conversation about bedroom positions.

Never once have I jerked off to this series or imagined this characters in sexual situations but I do find that I like the dynamics of the two characters in question and I think that as far as alluding to being a couple, the anime does that exceedingly well.

If you don't like the 'top' or 'bottom' or 'typical yaoi dialouge inserted here' then just enjoy the show for what it's worth and walk away from any discussion--- usually people are so invested in their pairings and preferences that it's easy to see from a mile away.
