I assume you mean Bernays and co.?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-16 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
This is good advice.

Harry is going to be really good at holing up. The amount of defensive magic that Wizards have access to, in terms of things like Secret Keepers and wards to make people forget things, and all of those things, is really formidable.

Emojis.

You can have conflict in a relationship and still deal with it in a healthy way, which honestly is rare in a lot of media in general, tbh, not just polyfic.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-16 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yessss. Even though the 'twist' was obvious (to me), I still love that film. Signs a close second. I don't dislike The Sixth Sense, but I have always been pretty damn 'meh' on Unbreakable.

I liked the last third of it, the bit that is only there due to the reshoots. The shaky cam'd grimdark and rainy scenes from the Gareth Edwards part not so much. It has a very clear delineation of directorial style.

There's a pretty vast gulf between "I want to read more fic with healthy functional poly relationships" and "I want to read fic without any conflict."

I mean, you seriously think that any fic where the conflict isn't due to dysfunction in the relationship is "boring"?

That doesn't mean Harry would win, though. It simply means 47 wouldn't win. Plus, if it ends in a stalemate, Harry is arguably on the less successful side because he couldn't leave wizarding world on fear of death or breaking wizarding world rules by using magic in muggle-land, whereas 47 loses nothing much.

Please tell me you at least watch Eddie Izzard.

That's the problem! They're too delicious!

(Anonymous) 2017-06-16 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
He really is though, I've been saying this the whole time. I still feel like it would be more tolerable if all his plotlines weren't obnoxious though

Well, what does Harry need to go into the Muggle world for?

Bad audio. Like I can generally handle low budget films if the plot/acting is good, but if the audio has that really hollow weird sound, it's like nails on a chalkboard and I can't power through it. :/

How did you pay, because I would just cancel the payment and cite nondelivery as the reason. Let paypal or your credit card company fight it out.

I had some for lunch today. So gooooood. I could probably eat them all the time.

In theory, I reckon it would probably be possible for a wizard to create a defensive ward to prevent a gun from targeting them. It's not that different from making a building unplottable.

But I recognize that I'm going beyond the actual evidence from the books into wild fantastical speculation here.

Then again, the books are all about Harry when he's still a teenager, so

I mean, theoretically, nothing. But it's canon in the epilogue that he lives there.

I wish it stopped with the first game too. It felt like with the second and third games, they just got worse and worse. The second broke things and the third tried to fix it with bubble gum and scotch tape.

That was the first drug I was put on for my depression and anxiety. I was on it for quite a few years until it wasn't effective anymore and I was switched to Prozac. But yes, I recommend seeing a psychiatrist at least at the beginning to monitor you on drug. A psychologist can't prescribe, but if you need therapy they are a great choice (For me I needed both drugs and therapy).

Nah, the structure of the ending is great, neatly tying together all the separate components and all, but the allergic to water thing is fucking awful. It pokes a million plotholes into everything else in the movie.

Aliens that can be harmed by a glass of water are somehow okay roaming through a misty, dew-soaked cornfield? What happens when it fucking rains? etc. etc. etc.

Up to that point things are over-the-top, but everything is firmly grounded in the real world. The aliens are scary because of this. But the twist just throws it all into question.

Military grade submarines. I can think of not a single instance in history where a military grade submarine has improved matters.

If submarines had been stuck at the observational diving bell stage, or maybe just been too complex a thing to operate away from a dive support vessel, so we could still have Jacques Cousteau type underwater observations that would have been fine. However the military style, multiperson, long voyage submarine I find to have been one of the worst weapons of war in history. A true terror weapon.

I didn't sleep more than 3 hours last night. I had two big mugs of coffee this morning. It helped for a few hours and I got studying done. Then I got jittery. Between that and the heat, I'm in the middle of an anxiety attack (thankfully seem to be on the outer edge of it, but still). I'm feeling so overwhelmed right now. I know it is the lack of sleep and that I can actually do all of this. But still that's how I'm feeling right now. And I'm behind on studying. Ugh.

Trends you don't understand

Brought to my mind by a recent Dear Abby letter.

People who get upset when someone other than their own children doesn't wish them a happy Mother's Day.

Like... wtf, you're not my mom, I have no idea what kind of mom you even are! Why am I obligated to wish you a HMD?

Ugh, no. I know he was part of the social movement 20 years ago, but his stuff is quite transphobic now you look back at it. We've moved on a lot from his "Action Transvestite" stuff.
