Tips for "surviving" fandom?

Anyone else find themselves having to "harden" themselves, or become a bit emotionally dead inside, just to endure any interaction with fannish people online (or people on the internet in general) without either silently seething about it for hours, or getting into an overblown argument with some jerk?

I feel like you have to be tough as nails, to survive fandom. Not just the "you drew this character wrong, it's problematic, kill yourself" garbage you see in tumblr/twitter, but also a lot of stuff on LJ/DW too. Like, I like to think about the "days of fandom past" in a nostalgic light, where people were kinder and easier to get along with... but when I really think about it, I knew some awful people, back then. People were still cruel af when they didn't like something. The just used a different type of rhetoric to go about it.

I'm starting to wonder why we do this to ourselves, again and again, when it doesn't really change much - aside from the way people will attack you/everything you love and value/etc.

So, got a call on Friday from someone wanting to set up a job interview I had applied for online. I missed the call at 11am but called back at 11:20 (was in shower). No one answered and I did not leave a voicemail. I called again at 2 (after lunch hours) and left a voicemail with my name/number/etc. I never got a call back on Friday.

Should I call Monday around like 10am or wait until he returns the call?

My sister tried to recycle a rusted cookie sheet. One of the cheap-ass ones that probably cost two or three dollars, max. We've got plenty more, most of which are better quality and all of which are in better shape.
