121. Read what? That's officially the first time I've seen his name in print. Am I expected to read the credits of shows to make sure I'm spelling all the characters' names right? Or am I just expected to have studied all their wiki bios or something?
123. I can kinda see that...
156. LOL

Also, his name is pronounced 'Sam/son', by every character on the show. People manage to spell 'Underbheit' correctly all the time, yet Samson is apparently beyond reach.

But I still say Morgan Fey was the biggest villain of the game.

142. Wow. There is a lot of anger there. It's entirely untrue that all Western comics complete a storyline in one volume. Let's use House of M as an example. It took months and months to end, and then the TPB didn't come out right away. So if you wanted to keep up with the story as it went, you had to buy the individual issues, which ends up amounting to a lot. And the Western TPBs often cost more than manga because they're in color. Beyond that, there were so many follow-up and side-stories to House of M which were published in *different* TPBs.

Western comics are just as time and money-guzzling as manga. If you don't want to "waste your time" with it, then don't. I don't see why it deserves so much hate.

And you know what? I *like* that manga usually follows one overall plot for many issues. I love the suspense, and the promise that there *will* be an ending, and that there's only one or two writers making sure the plot falls together. Western comics, which I do love, annoy me sometimes when they go through a zillion different plots spotlighting different characters, and I have to wait ages and ages to find out what the heck the story is getting at or for my personal favorite to come back into the forefront.

Manga is good for people like me. Western comics are good for people like you. Now you know why people eat that shit up.

Hell yes, Time Squad was a fine piece of educational goodness! Then again, it aired during the time I had a World Cultures teacher who was convinced Abraham Lincoln was the worst thing to happen to the United States, so the episode (Dishonest Abe or something?) where he went crazy was practically an inside joke. Also, totally reminds me of his cameo in The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny (http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/showdown)!

110, would you really 100% seriously choose that? You'd choose a fictional character over millions of real people? If so that is terribly sad and you need a lot of therapy.

Sorry, but I loathed Bread with a passion - it didn't then, and wouldn't now, make me personally feel any happier about being on the dole. Carla Lane's writing is embarrassing imo - she's not half as quaint and whimsical and "clever" and salt of the earth philosophical as she thinks she is.

Awww, I loved that show!

142. I'm somewhat in agreement with you. The single plot line thing doesn't really bother me (although I think the series I've stuck with the longest work with multiple plot lines). However, I think I should impose a rule on myself and only read completed manga series, because waiting a month for ~30 pages just, like, KILLS ME. Worse, action series will often have chapters of little more than fighting. I'm too impatient for that -- just tell me [X] wins the fight and then LET THE PLOT PROGRESS, FOR GOD'S SAKE.

147. I remember this show. I remember finding Peter Coyote ridiculously hot. The one scene that sticks in my mind is the one in which he hired a prostitute (for research purposes, naturally) and told her his name was Paul (his underling's name), which struck me as twisted (and, naturally, hot). And I was like, "MUST WATCH THIS NOW." And then, naturally, the show was cancelled. :(

160. That's a shame. This is like saying, "I'm sorry, I can't call you a great cook because you're not a chef in a five-star restaurant." And in the case of TV, actors have to work at a much faster pace when they're working on a TV show than when they do films, so I'm more impressed with great performances from TV actors because they've had less time to prepare.

But really only a small percentage of manga is like this. It's only the series that get a lot of popularity and are therefore profitable that keep running forever.

127. Same! Uusally during an episode there are these parts where you're dragging yourself through it. But those parts generally end after a bit and I'm rolling around in my chair again, laughing maniacally to the concern of everyone around me, hooray!
(I just watched TISCWSLaBMUZ tonight; ohhhh my god so bad)

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
117. I've given up on the whole concept of "Better" and "Best" Doctors. There are Doctors, and there are Doctors, and each one of them brings something new and wonderful to the role. I'll also admit that in some ways, I feel the concept is more important than the execution (well, really, how else do you watch anything from thr 60's/70's?), so sometimes it doesn't even matter whether the actor is any good or not. It's always the Doctor. Always.

That said...man, I want Eccleston back for a The Two Doctors sort of thing. I want it like burning!!!

139. Ah, yes, the first regeneration. I'll never forget the little hissy fit I threw at the end of "The Parting of Ways." My sister can tell you all about it. "No, no, no! He's all wrong! He's all...skinny and dopey and dorky and bouncy! What is this?!" It took one CiN special to turn me around.
It still kind of sucks, though, having to say goodbye to the first one who held out his hand and said "Let's go on an adventure!" And to be honest, I'm not really looking forward to Tennant's departure either.

145. You're not. Not really. I despised the first series, sat through it all because I was working on a project and needed something in the background. I hated every single character, even Owen, who I figured I'd like. I can't even remember what circumstances prompted me to watch the second series, but I'm glad I did. It was much better, and the end left me far more emotionally devestated than any of the Doctor Who finales did, and that's saying something.
But that said...I can still see why it can be a very hateable show. It just so happens that a lot of the things I hated so much about it got mellowed/balanced out.

156. Lol. I always think of Orlando Bloom. I remember reading that sometime after the first movie or so, he looked himself up on the internet and got so freaked out that he threw the computer out of the window.
That said, I figure most celebs would be more in the amused-pity vibe, slightly freaked out, but not horrified, because as you said, they already know we're nuts.
Freak DT out? Yeah, right. Because he's not totally a geek who works with uber geeks already. Show him some photomanip of Doctor/Master, and my money says he'll just laugh.

157. *cough*Ikindofagreewithyou...*cough* Sort of and not quite, but a bit. About some things. I don't hate Martha, but I don't like her because she bores me (at all points, she is exactly what she seems, and compared to the Doctor and all his recent companions, doesn't really have any flaws. Snore.), not because she gets in the way of my ship, and I actually thought River Song was really interesting. And there's a few other classics I ship the Doctor with as well, but...I just kind of think they were special. They were something he never had before, and never will again. And maybe that's the case for ever other relationship as well. But it just felt like something more.

...I hate having to admit it. I don't want to be "that fan" either. But screw it. I'm tired of being told my freaking opinion is wrong and shameful.

160. Yeeeah...lose.
