142. LOL. Maybe you should try reading/watching shorter anime/manga? There ARE oneshots you know and dude, doesn't everything follow "one plotline"? And the stand alone volumes that tie up together? Doesn't that also means there's one main plotline? Ah, maybe I'm just not getting what you're trying to say. Clarification is welcome.

Also, many of the longer series like Naruto, have other plotlines that add up to the main one...ah, I really don't get it anymore. Is it the length you don't like? That's understandable, but I don't get the business with the "one plotline" because in my mind, every single series/book/whatever follows one major storyline. :) Rambling ftw.

142. And then Western comics retcon the whole plotline away anyway! I say this as someone who enjoys Western comics as well: they are by no means immune to doing really stupid shit with their plots and pacing, and I won't even start on how writer-switching in bigger/long-running titles can fuck up a good narrative.

You're picking really good examples for Western comics and holding them up as the entire genre. Unless you're willing to do the same for the other side -- and I assure you, there are a lot of anime and manga that don't fall into the traps you accuse them of -- then, uh, stop it for fuck's sake.

And honestly, even most of the big long hueg liek Xbox shounen series, at least the ones I've read, have multiple plotlines, so I'm not quite sure what you're complaining about there. Rurouni Kenshin went through a few arcs, Yu Yu Hakusho went through four (and the first arc was more like a bunch of mini-arcs in itself) ... shit, even Flame of Recca, which keeps the same bad guy pretty much from start to finish, still uses several arcs that all build onto the same overarching plotline of stopping him.

If you think anime always needs fifty episodes to get through one plot arc, please do watch the first two seasons of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha sometime. Thirteen episodes each, two complete plotlines, and in the second season especially, I'm talking plotlines where a lot happens. If you think all anime/manga is ridiculously drawn out and stuck to one story arc, you clearly haven't watched/read much of it.

I can see why her fiction isn't as popular - it's pretty out-there; some of it's just downright disturbing, even.

...and I love her for it. I really admire a writer who can get a strong reaction out of me, even (especially?) if it's shock or disgust. :D

Her art's a bit of an acquired taste too I guess - good, but very stylised a lot of the time (to the point it's sometimes hard to tell who the characters are).

Ya know, the more I see kids expressing their distress here, the more I think we need a few new definitions of a few fannish terms. Like CRY MOAR and "drama" both really mean "I take no responsibility for the things I say". Sometimes fans behave like total muppets (gods know I do) and need a good mocking. But other times, that attitude is just a bully's victim-blaming: if I make you feel like shit with my assholery, it's somehow your fault.

(OP, I dunno if fanbullying is the source of your pain, or if that's just the bee in my bonnet talking and it's something else. But believe me, you are not alone.)

121 - I think the reason a lot of people think that is because Mol's accent makes it sound like she's saying "samPson". So I'm not really that annoyed when I see it.

125 - I know a lot of people didn't play it because the music wasn't to their tastes, so I try not to judge. I don't really care for a lot of the music in it, either, but I bought it anyway (in hopes that if they make another one, they'll try to get better songs, heh.)

That makes it even worse! People say his name all the time, why on earth would you be like, 'this one character who has shown up three times and says it with a super thick accent says it like this, THAT MUST BE RIGHT'?

Also, she doesn't really say Sampson -- what she's doing is softening the 'm' in his name (Самьсон, basically, is how she is saying it), which isn't really correct, but Mia Barron isn't Russian, so.

If anything, people should be spelling it with the pronunciation that Brock uses in mind -- and he always says Samson.
