AGREED. This is brilliance.

This is possibly the best secret ever.
These are the kind of secrets F!S needs to have!
...
Now I kinda wanna try doing this... xD;;;

104. You know, I just saw his interview with John Barrowman, and he seems like a really awesome guy! I was wondering though- what is his accent? I've been trying to train myself to recognize british accents in terms of region. His sounds a little northern, but I'm wondering where the 'R's turning into 'W's thing comes from. (Watch me be totally wrong.) Not that I don't like it; it's an awesome accent...
113. Angels and ministers of grace defend us! *headdesk*
138. Don't be afraid. Go. I promise traveling is worth the hassle. And maybe if you go, you'll find Him.
148. Lol, me too!
152. Well, I do subscribe to his awesomeness, but that's a bit extreme... oh well. Keep on truckin', OP.

104 OP here

(Anonymous) 2008-07-24 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The "W"s thing isn't an accent, it's actually a speech impediment he has, lots of people mock him for it but I actually think it's kind of sexy :D

Sexism, racism, and discrimination are a very real problem in the world. That means that if you disagree with anything in a show and label it "sexist" or "misogynist" or "racist", you are automatically right and anyone who tries to argue with you or defend the element you're offending is a horrible person and most likely a privileged white asshole.

146) Anime is just as "fandom" as western/actual!people/wtfever shows. Nobody's making you read EVERY SINGLE SECRET. Fuck, I skip the entire pile of Dr Who bullshit that invariably gets served to my friendslist through FS. tl;dr CRY MOAR AND GET OVER IT.

124. While Seymour is definitely my favorite FFX character, I like both him and Sephiroth. I did feel more sorry for Seymour though.

131. Err, so Tonks isn't allowed to fall in love and be vulnerable? Shame.

145. LOL, how do you know it wasn't what she wanted? 12-YEAR OLDS CHANGE LMAO.

Seriously, you ROCK! That needed to be said so badly. I like both characters, I just don't like them together - they're totally wrong for each other.

131. Pretty much my situation.

124: What's with all these secrets that have to put something down in order to describe how awesome something else is? It's beginning to seriously get on my nerves.

126: No, I know what you mean; that's why I read slash and yaoi, mostly. I want a story that's like any regular fantasy/adventure/horror/suspense/whatever, where there just happens to be romance between two persons of the same sex; not yet another story of either the deep tragedy of being queer, or the gay club subculture. Because that's all there is.

138: All that matters is how you look at the world, you know. Because it really is fantastic. XD

146: ...Troll? I honestly can't tell.

153: If they laugh at intelligent discussion, no matter what the subject... well, I daresay it says more about them than the people they laugh at. *sigh*

166: Maybe 146 wasn't a troll after all. Banning all anime secrets? Isn't that like banning all American television series? Seems... odd.

181: I like to judge every game on its own merits.

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2008-07-25 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
124. OH GOD, ME TOO. Wtf, people, just... seriously. It's called an opinion; you can has it, and so can I.

126. I dunno, I think RENT personally handled it very well. The het couples, the lesbian couple, and the gay couple all got kicked in the teeth about equally (well... not exactly, but you get my point), and it was much more a product of their lifestyles than their sexualities. I think the fact that the gay couple was the most sane relationship in the musical is sayin' something. XD

I don't understand how the amount of anime secrets (for varying series) are any worse than the deluge of Doctor Who/Twilight/Supernatural/etc. secrets we get. If I never have to hear bitching on F!S about a companion again, I'll stab my eyes out with a spork.

156 - Um... have you even SEEN the SPN fandom??? It is probably the one LEAST likely to say "OMG DADDYCEST IZ WRONG". I should know - I'm part of it! o_O

I feel your pain, and agree... Not even with just slash - i take it to the next extream - most canon couples (regardless of gender) seem too.. FORCED....

at least with fan'ships you learn to read the _subtext_ and have it evolve into a relationship... too often (at least in my opion) we're forced to take the canon ship at face value. they together becuase they are.. they don't seem to have the subtextual bonding that fan NEED, and thrive on for this fan'ships.....

...
or, i have no idea what i'm talking about.... but i think i'm making sense?

Re: 126

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-07-25 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
No, you are. I'm the same way with canon relationships as a whole, but I thought if I mentioned that people would assume me to be a het-hater or something and I didn't want my secret to be "tl;dr." A lot of times fandom can do a relationship right, but for most goofy thirty-minute shows and stuff, it seems like it doesn't work quite like it should...subtext is just better, I guess.

I honestly do agree with 105. For me fandom is for fun. It's relaxing and something I can enjoy without feeling the need to project my own political view into it. It honestly does get tiring having to listen to friends (both online and irl who are in fandom) rant about how they hate TPTB because they don't do enough for female characters which makes they misogynistic, or how authors are racist if they don't write characters of various ethnicities in high positions. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I'm not going to say anything different because I believe it's the truth, but I don't want said opinions being shoved in my face every time I turn around.

(Anonymous) 2008-07-24 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Another person who doesn't see anything wrong with ranting about how "feminists, fag hags, liberals, and blacktivists" are ruining fandom. I wish you guys weren't anon so I could be sure never to friend any of you.

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
105. ... I can't choose between (a) "You'd be fine with it if their politics matched yours", (b) "Yeah, fandom should stick to bashing their favourite shows over important stuff like continuity fluffs and shipping", and (c) "SEND FOR THE THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF, STAT".

... hmmm, there may actually be something in (b), given that it's sometimes difficult to tell genuine, honest criticism from the co-opting of progressive ideas to post-rationalise and validate epic squee fail.

... only on the Interwubs would a bastard sentence like that even begin to be possible.

Oh man, are you secretly me? XD

Although I did pick up FFIV DS, for the nostalgia. But I'm just about ready to sign my divorce papers with Square. I have no real desire or motivation to look into FFXIII at this point, and whenever I do get around to finally picking up a next gen console, my decision will probably be based entirely on where Megaten goes after PS2. (And/or Grandia, if they ever make more of those...)

(Anonymous) 2008-07-26 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, dude, is that the hero of SMT1 I see there? Win, win.

Yeah, I'm going to be doing that, too, admittedly (remakes don't count, dammit! And FFIV was my childhood).

If they go the PS3 way I'm going to have to have a fangirl flipout, because I already have a 360. But I would buy a PS3 for the next Megaten game, I really would.

157. Stargirl is an amazing book. I read it every time I felt like times were hard in middle school and it inspired me to keep being myself. Too bad none of my friends have read it >>
