143. I think sometimes we can release huge painful feelings more easily in a less important context. I felt pretty weird that I worried all the time about my cats dying, while I almost never worried about my husband dying, until I realised that the former was something I could cope with and the latter would be the end of the world. So a really heart-wrenching Doctor Who finale gives us the chance to let it all out - a bit like the way the show lets kids be scared in a safe context.

149. For what it's worth, I think I understand. I have really debilitating social phobia and general anxiety disorders, to the point that I couldn't even think about doing things like talking to another person or going out for the day. It's gotten better over the last year because of therapy and meds, and fandom's been almost as much a motivation for me as the fact that I need to be prepared to start college in the fall. I'm not there yet, but it's something I think is worth working towards because I think it's something that would make me happy (fandom and college). So I guess I hope you feel the same, 'cause no motivation is too "stupid" to fight for recovery. Rock on, OP. I know I'm rootin' for you. :)

I am stunned so many people posted to say they AGREED with this secret. Even if they agreed that they don't like politics in fandom the fact that they didn't protest the OP's choice of words and deliberately bigoted flamebait phrasing speaks volumes. However much they protest that they are not BIGOTS themselves they agreed with a bigot and kept silent about the bigotry.

I am ashamed of so many people today and specially sad that someone on my friends list agreed with this. Disgusting.

Look, I don't care if people don’t want to talk politics in fandom, but I’m really disturbed that so many people are defending the OP who is an obvious bigot.

133- I think the issue stems form the fact that people--especially the females of the species--are trained to want a relationship from an early age. So people find it weird when they come across someone who’s not boy/girl crazy. It’s not a big deal. Do whatever you feel is right.

145- See this is why I hate 10-years-later-type epilogues. The Miyako we’re familiar with is a pre-teen. We don’t get to follow her as she grows and changes through her teenaged years, so anything she does that doesn’t fit our understand of her (as presented by the 50 eps we viewed) seems bizarre! Maybe she had very good reasons for why she wanted to become a house wife. We have no idea what happened in between the ending of the series and the day the epilogue takes place. But from our understanding of the characters, and their dreams during their childhood, all their decisions are strange! Some make more sense than others, but they’re still strange!

I hope all that babbling made some sense. Also, I completely agree… Miyako and Ken had no chemistry and I can’t begin to fathom how that could have changed over the years. X.x

105. Happy medium people, happy medium. Nothing wrong with some political/meta/academic discussion. Just so long as those of us that are in fandom as a form of escape aren't made out to be terrible people. Some days, I like intellectual discussions. Other days? I'm beat, after a long day of work, and all I want to do is sit down and have a hot, steaming cup of "omg I would ride X like I stole him, let's discuss X because he's hot."

There is nothing inherently wrong with either. What's annoying is when either side gets militant that their way is the only right way.

134. I'm a little confused by this. Have you read the book? Grenouille didn't love Laure, or anyone -- he didn't see Laure as anything more than a scent, and Suskind made it pretty clear (at least to me) that he was incapable of forming any kind of attachment with anyone. And Laure didn't even know who he was.

I support twisted, mindfucking-ahoy!! pairings with my whole heart, but there's no there there with this one.

145. I wasn't very pleased with the ending, either, because of that part and for some other reasons as well. Sometimes finishing everything nice and neat with a bow and shiny wrapping paper works, but for Digimon (and season two, especially), it doesn't; not really.

Then again, after season one's ending, nothing could really compare; it was so heartwarming and heartbreaking all at once.
