108. Most Finnish people knew about them long ago, including people not in the scene. I think that my mother knew them even many years ago. I saw them live on festivals about 10 years ago and they weren't all that new then, I think.

115. I saw it once in a theater. It was the first time ever I've cried in a theater for a movie and I did it twice. I tried to watch it again later at home, but I couldn't. I doubt that I'll ever watch it again. I loved it, but it's too heavy angst to watch more than once.

109 - I'm sorry, but when people talk like this it usually makes me think that they just want people to say "No, you're a great anime fan for liking obscure stuff!" Might not be true in your case, but that's just the feeling I get. Why feel guilty if you really like something and don't give a damn about others? Be proud of your fandom.

120 - I could understand your feelings. It would kind of suck for me too if I was in your shoes (but how on earth could they not be into Popular Japanese stuff?) Still, the trip is what you make of it. You are very lucky to be going to Japan, so make the most of it.

122 - Aw Tohru. I get annoyed by her ditziness sometimes, but she's really good for the characters. I think the world would be a better place if real-life Tohrus existed.

115. Well, I went and saw it, but I was disappointed for basically the reason you won't watch it. :/ It was MAJORLY over-rated in my opinion...but I guess I just don't like canon-ghey.

134. That happens to me, all the time. If it's not to obscure for anyone to recognize, it's posted at the same time as about three or four secrets of the same fandom and everyone just goes, "ZOMG, WHAT IS IT, [INSERT FANDOM HERE] DAY?!?!" and not comment on it specifically. :/

115. It's a great film, but you're right: it serves up angst in buckets. The two of them are happy their first summer together, before their boss comes along and spoils it all. That's all I'll say. I don't want to spoil everything.

120. There's nothing wrong with pursuing a language because it aligns with your particular hobbies, despite what the 'HUERGH WEEABOO' people here are saying. But you'll enjoy the trip more (and learn more!) if you accept the fact the streets won't be lined with manga and make an effort to appreciate the other parts of Japanese culture, trust me.

120: Ahh, my dear. There is more to Japanese popular culture then what you've mentioned. The music, dramas, movies, idols, bizzaro fashions like gyaru, the punk-goth, fruits, ect. Otaku culture doesn't focus soley on anime and manga, it extends to everything. Heck, you could be a pizza otaku. That sound really tasty, actually. Yummy.

I totally sympathize with you though. I was the person who liked anime and manga and jmusic when I was in Japan, and I was pretty much alone in my program too. The people in your program might be more interested in the anthropological aspects of pop culture in Japan, which are intensly fascinating. Go to a doujinshi event, you can apperciate how interesting it is. Unlike in Western fandom, doujinka and people at events are older than 18 and 20--and at twenty-six I feel young in Jfen. (doujinka, that's why I associate myself with Jfen).

Lemme know where you are studying, I offer my help if I can. I live here, so if you need an ear of an experianced weeaboo in Japan, I offer mine. :3 (I like all the things you mentioned plus a shitload of other things about Japan, so lemme know, okay?)

151: Of all the things I would rail on Vic for, his religion and homophobia wouldn't be what I'd attack. He's kinda a dick, period, I would attack him on that aspect. I mean, he THROWS AWAY gifts from his fans. I realize that he gets a lot, but could he just like. . . take the stuff back and leave it in his hotel room or something? As opposed to waiting until that person's back is turned and tossing it?

Ahh well. If yelling at him helps you heal. . . I think it's kinda rude to the other people at the con who want to hear him talk about himself, but if it helps? Well, I can understand that. Though it does put you on his level, doesn't it?
