151. I have no idea who that is. I just wanted to say I'm sorry for your awful experiences and very understandable loss of faith. My own Goddess regularly kicks the crap out of me, but at least I expect and accept that. (It's complicated.) Recently I learned some things about human nature which shook my faith in everything, the whole universe, to the core. That has never happened before. I bounced back quickly but I hope I never feel that way again. I'm rambling. Sorry. Your sekrit poked me in the heart. Be well.

It is really, really different. Tom Cruise is giving harmful medical advice that might potentially kill people, and the cult he's a part of has been responsible for everything from fraud to assault and, if you believe the worst, murder/attempted murder. The Christian church has done its share of horrible shit too, but any bad things officially sanctioned by the heads of the Church have been discontinued/apologized for for a LONG time now. And that's if you're even Catholic. So, BIG difference.

Vic has had issues with being very needy and unpleasant to con-staff as a guest - there are some major cons that will not ask him back as a guest. His fanclub, too, has a history of being way out of control and interrupting events, and he doesn't do anything to curb it. This is all secondhand from con-staff people, though some digging could probably find better evidence.

He also said some pretty obnoxious things about Fai (from CLAMP's Tsubasa) being zomg super straight which the creators told him despite the fact they had little to nothing to do with the anime, and that vid's on youtube.

From all the stories I've heard, Vic totally deserves that.

But.

You've been through enough. You don't deserve to be on Encyclopedia Dramatica, Fandom Wank, &c. You don't deserve to be removed from the con by security and you probably will be.

So I vote no, don't do it.

And to everyone who justifies his homophobia by saying it's his religion: there are a lot of people in the world who manage to be Christian and not be homophobic assholes. If you want people to be fair to Christians and Christianity, how about not defending assholes who happen to be Christian on the grounds that it's discrimination to call them on their evil behaviour if they can quote Scripture they can then misinterpret to justify it?

I swear, some of you lot who say it's okay to be homophobic if you're Christian make me wonder if it was 1860, would you be defending the Christians in the South who were pulling out Bible passages to justify slavery?

I don't remember anyone saying that. She didn't even mention the homophobia, she was just pissed that he believed in God and talked vocally about it. I'd tell him to shut up if he were openly homophobic at a con too, because he'd be doing just what she's suggesting doing: publicly attacking someone's beliefs and/or lifestyle.
