116 "IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE SAME BORING SENSE OF HUMOR I DO, YOU'RE AN IDIOT"
150 Yeah, we know. Unfortunately, only one person has admitted to finding Nurse Joker x Dent hot.
152 Despite being the best comic book film adaptation I have ever seen in my life, I guess it's not a big deal.

LOL, why do I still feel compelled to comment?

129. UN LUN DUN. I fucking love you for F!S-ing it.

I want those worlds to be real too. Don't blame you for checking. Just in case. I look twice whenever I see an abandoned umbrella.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_bellisima/ 2008-08-06 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
134. Your image makes me giggle.

[identity profile] midnight-birth.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
106. You know, I don’t even know what fandom you’re referring to here, but fans tend to do this a lot. They take a character and increase the qualities the writers made most evident until the character has nothing but those qualities. And I mean, nothing is ever just black or white, and characters that are are unbelievable and boring. I wish people would stop ignoring the subtle complexities in a lot of my favorite characters and not make them so damn two-dimensional.

111. This has been said many times before with different pictures. I do have a thing for scars, too.

113. Nothing wrong about that. Actually, that doesn’t make you a bad Batman fan, either. You’re obviously a fan of the more “classic” Batman. Frank Miller’s Batman and the original Bob Kane’s are very different. And in general, it really pisses me off when people start judging other people’s tastes because they’re different from their own. What is this narrow-mindedness sweeping through fandom? Like what you like. : )

114. I find it offensive too when people mis-cast by the original intended race. I’m thinking of Memoirs of a Geisha here, actually. They casted Chinese actors to play Japanese people as if we couldn’t tell the difference anyway. :S And they were great actors. Just... why?

119. Not the same, but if I have MSN windows open, or pictures in frames, whenever I’m working out or doing anything.. else I don’t prefer people watch me do I close them and turn them to face away. Even if it’s a picture, it still somehow feels someone’s watching..

129. I have these thoughts always when I read Fantasy. It makes me long oh so much for something extraordinary of this nature!!

134. Self important a bit, yes? Or paranoid? Believe it or not, often enough people post secrets not to be unique. You know, the whole point of these is to be anonymous. Those people who say they’re very attractive to the Joker? They may not be alone, and I’m sure they know it, but it’s not about being creative. It’s about telling a secret that you sometime would not be hurrying to admit and put your name on it. I know everyone loves the Joker, but the first time I walked out of the movie-theatre, or even the first time I put down a comic with him in it many years ago, the fact that he was “hot” and “genius” didn’t make me lose sight of the fact that he’s scarred, diabolical, heartless, evil, murderer and completely bat-shit crazy. Before I stopped caring, I would also say that loving the Joker not for his “hotness” but actually for his personality was always a little secret of mine. This is not a creativity or “who’s cooler” contest, or wank-fest.

140. I had that fear too. Then I read it and I still hate it, so read away.

152. Because Batman has one of the largest fandoms, ever. And this new series is something to get excited about after a long dry spell (ever since Tim Burton stopped doing them, in my opinion). The fan base always decides the hype. It’s always like this when the Harry Potter movies come around. Heh. Am I looking forward to the flood of secrets about THAT in November. ;)

156. They are definitely art. In fact, they combine a whole lot of art forms all in one (music, animation, drawing, writing etc.). And seriously? Okami is one of the most amazing things that I’ve ever come across! It’s brilliant! I was completely blown away by the beauty, complexity, and plot of that game.

162. You’re not. While I’m not of the opinion, I’ve spoken to quite a few people with very legit reasoning that are. It’s just the Batman fandom is a bit batshit (*chuckles*), and anyone who doesn’t think it’s the most amazing movie ever somehow comes off stupid. :S I mean, I loved Batman immensely, but I like what I like and everyone else is free to the same. I think the guy who played Ironman is an incredible actor, in truth, and I think out of those four, I prefer him most only after Heath. I think the whole wank going on between these movies is because of the comic-fans. The Ironman movies ripped those apart like whoa. Being a fan of the comic, it made it a little painful. It wasn’t as evident in the Batman movie. Either way, I definitely know where you’re coming from.

163. YES!

165. What movie is this?

[identity profile] karma-kalisutah.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
I would also say that loving the Joker not for his “hotness” but actually for his personality

Is... is he at all "hot" in a way that does NOT involve his personality? I have Harley Quinn Syndrome and bad, but physically he's almost repulsive. My love for him is all about his brilliance and his beautifully twisted psyche.

THE FORBIDDEN GAME!!! zomg, I about leapt out of my seat at that! #147, baybee! Gods alive, I would hit Julian like... like... I can't come up with anything original here, so fill in for me. Ye gods, I loved him so hard. I STILL read this book! YOU'RE NOT ALONE! In fact, if you go to nightworld dot net, there's a bajillion LJS fans who are nuts about all her books. I used to belong to the mailing list, and we'd have these great indepth conversations about the characters and their motives and what have you...

Still love Julian. Still love Ash Redfern. Still love Adam Conant. Still love Gabriel Wolfe. And I'm waaaaaaaaaay too old for these books. ;)

[identity profile] pavonine.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Take It To Comments: ... "Ew"? They're one of the gayest straight duos ever--you'd have to be blind not to notice it. The slash is there. And it is quite good.

104. Ditto. We'll write a ballad, "Ode to the Prostate."

107. If it means enough to you, the insults shouldn't matter. Many people have something that has ultimately changed them--sometimes it's one show, sometimes a whole bunch of shows, sometimes a really outstanding character or amazing fic. Just love what you love.

116. We love you too! THE CAKE IS A LIE

121. ... *snickers*

hello.jpg to you too!

134. Danke. Just... thank you.

137. You forgot spectacular renditions of "Chocolate Rain," "Never Gonna Give You Up," "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and the theme song for The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

138. So making a "too soon" comment about a well-known celebrity's death constitutes a person as horrible? I think it would just mean that their sense of humor doesn't go with what is perceived as "normal" humor.

140. [livejournal.com profile] dazzzzzzle Try it and see.

152. Agreed. Good, but not life-shaking.

153. If you literally die, then how did you make this secret?

161. JONATHAN! He's always my favorite part of the movies.

163. YESPLZ

Meh. We don't really want normalfags in our little geeky conventions.

You don't see us socially inept nerds coming to your nightclubs and then whining that the people there won't behave like us.

So don't come to our cons and then whine that we don't act to your standards.

Re: 101

(Anonymous) 2008-08-06 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The difference is, you probably don't want to go to nightclubs or whatever, and OP probably has interest in attending conventions...otherwise her secret wouldn't be a problem to him/her. Way to be close-minded and represent your dorky friends.

I hear you dude!!! I just moved house and found my copy of 'The Kill' at the bottom of an old box and promptly sat down in a mushy mess of nostalgia and re-read the entire thing. I'm 23, and she is still my favourite author ever. I own about 15 of her books and they're all cracked and care-worn, and look absolutely terrible against all the shiny new books on my bookcase, but they are, and will always be, the best of the lot.

I'd love a Forbidden Game trilogy on the big screen, but I'm afraid no one could ever do justice to the Julian she created. (And damn, it, give us an alternate ending where Julian makes it and Tom decides not to play second fiddle....)

104. Since no one will see this unoriginal, too-long, very wanky rant on the thirteenth comment page, I'll just say that comments like this always make me so mad. I just can't believe that anyone is still really clueless enough not to see that the majority of slash fiction has NO insight to offer into the real relationships of actual gay men.

At worst, and very often, slash is highly idealized fantasy romance novel/bodice ripper slush that says more about the romantic fantasies of certain women than anything real. Even when it's not that, it is still usually (obviously, there are many exceptions to all of this) about hot young white male straight male celebrities written by straight women who are not making a genuine attempt to present a portrayal of real gay men (many of whom are actually average-looking, even ugly! some are old, or non-white, and they don't spend all day fighting aliens but work normal boring jobs! most have issues of their own like any other human being, and many have relationships that don't last, like everyone else, or where the sex isn't great, instead of scorching hot soulmates 4-eva!).

Incidentally, I'm not saying that slash should be realistic. Or that there's something wrong with slash. If you find it fun for whatever reason, that's fine. It's good for girls to have their own version of guy-oriented "girl-on-girl actionz!!" porn movies. But when an individual starts to confuse fantasy with reality, all the grey matter starts sliding out of his or her ears. It's not real. The "slash is more equal really, like gay male relationships in real life in real life" idea is equally stupid, partially because so much slash plays up the inequality of relationships (sometimes to a ridiculous degree), but also because so many other forms of societal inequality have existed since civilization began (class, race, age, health, etc.) that it's silly to believe real gay relationships don't sometimes experience problems with this (and why not two girls, if equality is the issue?).

Really, though, is anyone on Earth not aware of all of this? Fiction (fantasy, fun) vs. real life? Are there ACTUALLY girls that think, "this is really what it's like for gay men?" That gay men are magical unicorns who have vastly higher, more spiritual, sparkly rainbow relationships than everyone else? Unbelievable. I guess Twilight is a spot-on slice of hetero life, then.
