101. Sometimes that gets to me too; I want to smack some people who don't understand that basic rules of society don't just go away because it's a con.

116. Am I still an idiot if I find it funny how stupid that sort of thing is? (I'm not laughing at it, I'm more laughing at the idea that it's supposed to be funny.)

123. Oh man. I fail to see how any Bleach character could counter Okama Kenpo.

145. ....but Sokka is AWESOME.

n!f 1. D: indeed. I haven't had a similar experience, but I still like to read that comm sometimes whenever I really need a schadenfreude rush.

107. Man, people (not you) really need to STFU. Death Note rocks.

119. You made this secret just so someone would make you a Ceiling Doctor macro, didn't you. It's okay, I approve.

153. You literally die? Oh dear.

156. I need to play some more Okami. Maybe tonight. I had no idea a game could be so beautiful.

Didn't I see that on F!w?

102 - ME TOO. I have great memories of that fandom. The fanfics really were awesome, or so they seemed to my 14-year old self. Ufufu I'm sure there was *some* wank over the yaoi pairings, but as a lurker I never saw them.

107 - Grr grr just ignore anyone who says that. Ditto on everything you said about meeting great people, it means a lot to me too but really, if you really value those things then other people's opinions about it shouldn't matter, its about your experiences and what you got out of it, imo.

130 - ILU. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who gets a sexual kick out of this. It's like...The closest you can ever get to a perfect 2d man.

134 - I'd read his book.

141 - That's really sweet.

101. I have no desire to go to a con, especially after the time that this one weirdo saw me reading a Star Trek novel on the train and followed me out of the subway, up the street, into the Dunkin' Donuts, across the street, and into my office building, babbling about Star Trek and all the cons he's been to while invading my personal space in a really creepy way. He didn't take the polite, subtle hints that I wasn't interested in his company, didn't take the hint when I said it was nice to meet him but I have to go to work now, and had to be escorted out of my building by security.

Yeah. So not into meeting several hundred more people like that. And I say this as a socially inept nerd with odd interests myself.

108. I hope someone knows what this is, because I'd love to read it.

116. ITA. I don't understand those, let alone find them funny.

101

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I just came back from a con, and I can honestly say that I probably only met a few people there that were like that...and none of them actually stalked me, luckily. People like that are the extremes, even at a con they're not the majority of the people there.

102. THANK YOU. I adore Gundam Wing and, at first, the fandom rocked. Now it just sucks.

103. That's cute! XDD

107. I adore Death Note. Anyone who says you aren't a 'real fan' for liking something that happened to gain some popularity are just those elitist pricks that make the rest of us look bad.

116. Agreed. Most of the shit that comes off of 4chan is just a bunch of trash. You don't even have to think--it's boring humor.

129. Neverwhere was awesome.

139. That's the problem I have with CLAMP. By the time they actually get around to finishing their damn stories, they're either so bizzaire that they don't make sense (T: RC Syaoran-Sakura-weird-mommy-twist) or I just don't care anymore.

145. Aw! <333

153. omigod, that was hilarious. XDD

To all the DK ones: I adored Dark Knight. It's a great movie. I think a good part of the sensation is that Heath Ledger is dead. That's to be expected.

109: You can have him if I can have Ben and Tom J. Deal?

(Yes, at the same time. Is that odd?)

131: I had to check my hard drive to make sure I didn't make this secret. I feel the same way. It's not even that I'm trying to want to like it...it's worse. I'm trying to care enough to sit down and watch it. (And I even love me some grown-up Doogie, but I still can't care enough.)

153: /obligatory bandwagon jumping to snippily point out that you must be using "literally" ironically.

106. They make Harry an idiot? That's not fair - were they not watching the same movie? Harry was the one who figured it all out in the end! DX I'm glad I've never really looked for a fandom for that movie, 'cause bad characterization would drive me particularly crazy in that fandom. :/

128. Amen to that. I know it goes against the whole plot of the entie freaking show, and even if there was any chance at all, I doubt it'd be in the show anyway, considering he's telling this to his children (of course, he does mention some things that I know I wouldn't say to my kids. XD) but they are so totally my OTP of that show.

138. Weren't you paying attention? He was talking about how that only works if you use something slow, like a knife. Thus the "guns are too quick" lead in. Geez, if you're going to make fun of someone's untimely death, do it right. XD

153. If you "literally" die, you'd be dead. I'm sorry, but I really cannot stand when people misuse that word. It doesn't mean "OMGZ really really," it means "in a literal sense."

161. If that happens, I'd watch it no question. (I'm not currently a DW fan...)

163. I would definitely not say no to more Chase, as he is my favourite v 1.0 duckling, but don't blow off Wilson, it makes me sad. D:

[identity profile] fandaban.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
101. I don't necessarily agree. :/ I think cons actually help us to be more social because we're around people who are so similar to us. The con atmosphere (or at least anime cons, anyway) is usually very welcoming and friendly. I usually talk to more people and a larger variety of age groups when I'm at cons than in everyday life. :)

Either all the CLAMP artists will be dead and the ending will be read off in their will, like I think the OP said, or the Earth will cave in on itself first.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
108. Well, lose for use of "bcuz" (the heck?), but also because I thought we were finished with these lame "This is the best thing ever" secrets that don't fricken' name the thing in question.

113. Nah, doesn't make you a bad Batman fan. Return of the Joker was hard-freaking-core. I loved Heath Ledger's Joker like mad, but it's only one (very very very good) take on a classic character. Hamill's Joker will always be the definitive one for me, and in that movie, he got to cut back, no holds barred. It was phenomenal.

118. I feel that way a lot, actually. I haven't actually loaded anything on dA in awhile (for a good reason for once--intercontinental moves tend to upset the mundane little things), but I'm still a little sad when there aren't any new comments. I just chalk it up to "I'm an artist; we're very vain people."

124. Oh...okay...? Um, that's definitely your problem then.

126. WORDTASTICAL!!!!

129. Heh. I'm living in London right now, and I'd be lying if I said that thinking about Neverwhere actually makes taking the Tube during the "everyone's off of work" time tolerable. And when I'm waiting in a station and there's, like, nobody else in that station? Yeah, I'm thinking of Neverwhere. Heck, I brought the book with me to read my first week there, and wound up using the map at the beginning during a crisis.
...
I'm sure if I get the timing just right, eventually the Earl's Court train'll pull up for me.

130. You had me until the crotch bit. I'm just neurotic--I usually go over that bit real quick-like. But now you make me want to finish some artwork instead of just doing doodly-sketches...I really want the fun and, well, intimacy of painting the facial features, the hair, skin and freckles and all.

131. I don't really get this attitude towards anything. I mean, I know all about the whole "can't be bothered" thing, but I never got the whole "Everyone loves it, so it can screw itself." What's the point?
Ah well.

134. HAHAHAHAHA.
Seriously. You're not much of a special snowflake either. There've been plenty of secrets like these. That's what fandom secrets is. IT's a place where people put their opinions up anonymously, for whatever reason--maybe they don't want to bring it up with fandom friends, maybe they have no fandom friends, maybe they honestly are ashamed of it, maybe they just want to talk about it but no one else around them wants to listen. So they make a secret. That's what the bloody place was made for already.
So if someone thinks that the Joker was really sexy, but their friends were freaked out, or if they absolutely hate a character on Doctor Who, but it seems like everyone loves them, or if they just don't feel like starting the detailed, possibly wanky discussion about some level of fandom in their own space, but they still want to put their opinion out, then they do it here.
It has absolutely nothing to do with being "special" or "unique"--it doesn't matter if it's a brand new opinion or one fifty people have had before. It's their opinion, and they want to express it. That's what this place is here for.

Oy.

137. I kind of totally want to get up there with a rollicking rendition of...oh, any Great Big Sea song, but especially a nice shanty. Or Tom Waits' "Two Sisters." Sung exactly like he does, of course.

138. That...that actually made me cry a little bit. No, I'm nopt kidding. Man.

140. I won't deny it, I feel that way too. I also know that I write and speak like whatever I've been reading, and I do not want to poison myself with that "prose."

134

(Anonymous) 2008-08-05 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, that's actually the only response that's made me think.

The secret was made out of exasperation towards people posting seventy five secrets that say things like "zomg, I hate companion X" or "I would so do the Joker, LOL Y AM I SO STRANGE?" And things that aren't secrets at all, but rather the general opinion of everyone. :/

Though you do make a good point, I feel like there's a difference between Fandom Secrets and Fandom Feelings-And-Ideas-That-Are-Generally-Accepted.

I second this.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
152. Um. It does occur to you that this movie came out a relatively short while ago (don't know when it came out in the States, but I only just got around to seeing it here), that it's been heavily anticipated for about three or four years now, features one of the best known, most hardcore villians ever (in any media, the Joker is that) played by a phenomenal actor who suffered a tragic death shortly after, featuring five other absolutely amazing actors and lots and lots of explosions?
People are going to talk. It's shiny, it's new, and it was hardcore.
Honestly, I have a lot of problems with the moview (chaos=good in a villian, bad in storytelling). But it's the new phenomenon.

It's like the people getting all butthurt about the flood of Doctor Who secrets right after the epic finale that signalled RTD's leaving and reunited every single recurring character of the new series. Darn it, can't imagine why everyone suddenly won't shut up about it....

155. I console myself by pretending that Blue!Ten is basically Nine, only less hotness.

160. I don't either. I mean, I sort of do, but not in that way. There's nothing sexual about it, I just can't do that. It doesn't gel for me with them. But someone introduced me to the phrase brOTP, and that's what they are for me--I don't want them to have hawt hawt mansehcks, I just want them to constantly be together, playing off each other forever.

161. Dude...I can see it! I love him.

163. YES! Honestly, it's gotten to the point where Chase is my favourite thing about that show.
