Yes. That's her problem. She is a writer who knows nothing about fantasy, attempting to write fantasy not for fantasy fans, but for people who would otherwise not read it. And the result is something that looks like she did no research and literally just threw supernatural elements into a teen romance so that it could be shelved in two different categories in a bookstore.

127. The amount of emotional investment I have in the outcome of the Christmas Bowl is absurd. If the Devil Bats don't win I will be devastated, not just because I love the Devil Bats with all my heart or because I think the heroes should always win in shonen manga, but because of the message it would send: No matter how hard the underdogs try they can't beat the snooty, elitist, unlikeable b-holes who have talent but no heart. 149. Wanted to add a few words on this one too. Like the OP I am a fangirl who doesn't like any kind of slash or yaoi (with the one exception being Sex Pistols) and I also am not quite sure where I fit in within fandom. I don't doubt my womanhood, but I do feel a bit left out sometimes. I am a manga fangirl primarily and a lot of my favorite series are Weekly Jump titles. For anybody who doesn't know, Jump fandoms are dominated by fujoshi. Het and gen fangirls are often the outsiders who must look to communities that specialize.

There's also the whole deal with the "slash goggles." It definitely makes it harder to relate to other fans when they are squealing over "subtext" that you just can't see.

They need to come up with a word for female otaku who are not fujoshi but not like male otaku either.

Until my friend actually looked up more information on the character and sent me the link over IM. He even SOUNDS like their kid (even a mix of their personalities) and he fights with a bird monster? I liked Josh a lot at first, sort of flipped out on him during his big reveal at the end, and then on the replay started liking him again, but still not as much as I once had, or as much I liked most of the other major characters (Shiki is my favorite — her relationship with Eri really got to me for some reason).

About Rhyme — we don't even know if she got her entry fee back, or if it was lost forever when she was erased during the first week. Yikes! So, yes, I've been wondering about that too.

(Speaking of which, has anyone else thought about things like what their own entry fee would be? I think I'd end up having to play the game mute — the most thing to me that they could take away is my ability to speak my mind and express myself through words.)

149. Yeah, I never really got yaoi either. But then, I never really got porn in general. I do sometimes read or view vaguely smutty works if they're particularly romantic, or otherwise accessible on an emotional rather than carnal level, and in those cases I overwhelmingly prefer yuri or het. And I think you're right — I think it is about relatability.

It may not be a matter of security, though. It may just be a matter of wanting different things out of smut.

139 - Rhyme's entry fee was actually her dreams for the future. They mentioned it very subtly and I don't think they ever came outright and said it. Beat says that he didn't have any plans for the future, but Rhyme did (he said he made up the dream about being a great skater). And in the beginning of the game, Rhyme was telling Shiki that her brother had lots of dreams, but she didn't, and wishes she did.

I totally missed it the first time, and my friend had to point it out to me, lol.

(Shiki's my favorite because I can relate to her so much. But I love Beat because, hello? He's kind of adorable. ^^)

And yeah, I've thought what my entry fee would be, but I still can't decide. :) (Yours is really good and struck a cord with me.)
