An RC secret!! Anon, I love you <3 XD

You are so not alone; if you're a girl and you love Star Wars, you cannot not fall in love with at least one of the clones in the Republic Commando series ... wisecracking, strong, sarcastic, loyal, warm, battle scarred, tragic, damn sexy - I mean, you just have to! Karen Traviss took the blank, flat clones created by George Lucas and some of the other EU writers (Cestus Deception, I'm looking at you!) and turned them into unique, powerful and infinitely likeable characters, with emotions and memories and fears. And then we get to play the Republic Commando PC game and squee some more XD

So you're most definitely not alone! And you're right... where's the fandom? I mean, there's the game, there are three books, the films have plenty of clones... hmm, fandom, where are you?

[livejournal.com profile] hug_clones, back in the day. The sad thing is, there's a lot of Karen hate in fandom in general, especially among the TFN-associated fans (which, you know, is most of fandom). Which is stupid. D:

116. It feels really weird to describe Rorschach fanart as "cute" but...that's cute.

141. The movie had its problems, but I don't get why it's so universally hated. At least the Wachowskis tried to do something different.

177. Someone else has seen this movie! I ship it too.

People like different things. Doesn't make you any less (or more) of 'a woman' to be with or against the majority. Who you are is defined by who you are, not what other people are.

[identity profile] siri-dutchie.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
149. While the whole 'exploring their own sexuality' thing might be true for some people, I think a simpler explanation would be that while one hot guy is nice, two is better.

152. You and me both. The cracktastic potential is awesome.

159. ...XD

Too big! 3. Hey, there are worse reasons to read something than to poke fun at it. If you have a library card you should go for it :P

165. I haven't read that particular book, but The Robber Bride is one of my very favorites (and I seriously dig her poetry *points to icon*). I would want to stab some vital organs if The Robber Bride had a fandom, though. Fandom is such a double-edged sword. My favorite book of all time is a relatively obscure children's book, and a small part of me would love to discuss the book with like-minded fans, but when I think of the shitty fanfiction and utter perversions of canon that I'd have to witness, I just about want to DIE. Some things are better off without a fandom.

163. This is AWESOME. Does your dad know?

157. Adama/Roslin is one of the few canon pairings I can whole-heartedly support. They're just so right together, and I LOVE that they're of unconventional (for TV today) age and appearance.

[identity profile] cdaae.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
165 - mine too, and ditto on the poetry (I also love her short stories). Now I'm very curious about what the children's book you refer to is.

Also, this community has caused me to never want to see TDK. Thanks, assholes. XD

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
122. Awww. Congratulations! Walking through the zombies in Hyrule always bugged me worse.

128. Hell no. Chaotic Evil + Face paint do not make clones!

135. Why the hell is this a secret? Half the internet agrees with you. Me, I liked Hellboy better.

146. .. Oh my fucking God, you're right.

149. "I understand that to 'not likie yaoi' you must exhibit some tendency towards disliking the thought of men being in love with one another, or men in sexual situations."

This is bullshit. Yaoi is something entirely different from men in love and having sex with eachother. It comes with particular tropes (seme/uke, for example) and a fangirl culture that really rubs a lot of people (myself included) the wrong way. And why is it that you can't just be free to dislike yaoi? It doesn't mean anything, except that you don't like yaoi. If you personally have some kind of an issue with men in those situations, it isn't really fair to generalize it to everyone else.

I also prefer lesbianism without really being into yuri.

I also don't think that explanation for why women like yaoi (tools to freely explore their sexuality) is accurate. I think it boils down to the same reason men tend to like their own warped vision of lesbians - voyeuristic attraction.

150. That was pretty bullshit.

154. Ditto this. It sucks to get invaded. The worst part is that everyone calls you an elitist if you dare express your frustration in public.

166. Well, they say the first step is admitting you have a problem.

173. Go ahead and do it, just make sure that your OCs aren't Mary Sues (peer review, head to [livejournal.com profile] oc_analysis or something). People who call Mary Sue on all OCs no matter what really aren't worth listening to.

176. That sounds like a healthy attitude. You'll probably wind up hurting somebody you were supposed to care about.

NotSecret#2: You're really dumb as a brick if you think they're just words. I've been over this before, but I'm going to try again, and probably fail because I can barely think thanks to painkillers. If anybody understands what I'm trying to say, please feel free to jump in and clarify.
What are words? They are symbols of both physical objects and abstract thoughts and they are probably the single most important human invention, as they are how we communicate. While we communicate in words, we don't think in words, and so we rely on words to conjure up the correct impressions and connotations. In this way, words have the ability to shape what we think and they often do without us realizing it. If you use racist words, for example, you perpetuate racist thinking unless the context is enough to alter the meaning. That is why people get on your case to stop using the words.

In conclusion: Shut the fuck up.

How funny would it be if 153 and 154 were created by the same person attempting to troll everyone?

If not, though, I'm totally with the OP of 153. The fandom explosion is going to be epic and gloriously lulzy.

166. It's not the "weak female characters" in fiction that made you feel this way; they're just one part of a much bigger picture of a society where all that is either female, feminine, or both is consistently valued less than that which is male or masculine. It's stupid, but that doesn't make it any less harmful.

That said, I hope you find a way out of that shame so you can be yourself, regardless of how butch or femme or whatever you'd like to be.

127. Before ES21, football was the only sport i had any interest in at all, but I still didn't care much. After seeing this anime, I understand the game and love it much more....and I totally believe that if my HS had had Hiruma, we would've done MUCH better. Yes, ES21 made me into a football fanatic as well.

138. He's attractive in a way I can't put my finger on, but no I don't wanna hit that.

149. I was never big on yaoi either, but I've grown to enjoy pairings if there's much subtext, not just for the hot factor. (Cuz it doesn't really turn me on.) I'm more intersted in guys IN LOVE, than just the fact they have sex.

Dorian Gray secret?

I can't to see Colin Firth as Lord Henry.
Ben Barnes as Dorian - not so much.

108. 'Sup. Welcome to the land of blatant subtext. Enjoy your stay! :3
111. Good idea. And, you know, god forbid but you should ever actually have to run for you life without the Doctor around, but... Anyway, I wish you well.
112. Heh. :3 Yay, TKAM secret. And yeah, Gregory Peck is oldschool hotness, don't be embarrassed.
121. Bah, morons. I mean, you've got to hear about your interests somewhere to begin with - movie? Book? Friend? Who cares, I think.
124. Eh, don't be so self-centered. Like anyone really gives a fuck about who I am. XD (NOT HELPING, Y/N)
125. Well, maybe not the Time Lord bit, but killed and replaced with an alien? Plausible.
130. Wow, what set of circumstances brought this about?! I MUST KNOW. whereever, whereever, whereever you go~
141. Bad reviews?! Fuck 'em. I loved that movie. If that doesn't get some sort of award for EPIC-ASS EYECANDY ART DIRECTION CINEMATOGRAPHY, there's clearly something wrong with the world.
146. CAN'T UNSEE. Also, SpongeBob + Chowder = Flapjack, but everyone knows that.
147. Well what'd you expect it to look like? ;D
...oh god, why did you remind me of Neopets, now I have to go make a secret about how sexy Sidney is---oops, nvm.
149. Just doesn't turn you on, simple as that. Don't worry about it.
150. What the-? Okay, I get the feeling I missed something, but come on. Blizzard is not going to promise new hairstyles and slap already-existing hair on other races. That's just lazy.
And god, I hate those gnome pigtails. Especially the pink ones. (Level 70 female gnome rogue with short brown hair and funky bangs, thx4asking)
151. Hah, when I was in high school (pre-2005) I heard of Doctor Who but couldn't afford DVDs, had crappy internet so no downloads, live in the US so you better damn believe I couldn't watch it on TV...and decided to become a fan without ever having seen the show, for the lulz. Fortunately, I later discovered that the PBS in Denver had the show on (midnight on weekends), so hell yeah I started watching.
163. Your dad sounds cool.
167. PART OF THE PROBLEM LOLWUT
172. Heh, shipconcatenations are fun - but usually only with Japanese or Chinese names, where it flows better (Koukari (Hikirou?), Zuki, soforth). With more Western names or names-that-aren't-names, it kinda falls flat (Tonkpin, Psyrrow, Doctadier, oh god my brain hurts just trying to stick these together).

163. My dad is beyond awesome. (I think it must be the goatee. He used to have one.)

121. Aw, I think that's awesome :(

125. SHIT, ME TOO.

130. ... WHAT. SERIOUSLY HOW DID YOU EVEN MAKE THAT ASSOCIATION, PLZ TELL

135. YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS LET'S BE FRIENDS I WANT TO READ ITTTTTTTT

149. I'm totally with you. I mean, I do have a handful of yaoi ships because I think some pairings are really sweet, but as far as actual YAOI goes? Ick, get it away. Nothing against people that like it, but I just don't like it. At all. Funny, I mean, I do prefer women to men, but I'm not adverse to the thought of screwing a guy once in a while. *shrug* Yaoi just doesn't do anything for me.

159. GOD I STARTED CRACKING UP TOO

180. NAZI FETISH FUCK YEAH *HIGH FIVE*

Come to think of it, my sister-in-law's the same way. Loves the sweet romancin', not so hot on the boys boinkin' bits.

...Actually, I guess that's what pulled me into yaoish-such as well (the character development, the plots, etceterwhatever); I just don't mind the sex. Plenty of opportunity to bond during the act, as well!
