Ever have one of those times when you're so completely, utterly, thoroughly unsatisfied with what you've managed to do, but you finally have to stop yourself from trying and just post it? I had one of those just now. I'm involved in a contest in one of my fandoms, and I did really well last round, so it's harder to accept that I'm just not going to get it right this time.

What have you turned in, posted, submitted, etc., recently that was painfully less of a good job as you thought/hoped you could do?

Yes, but I usually found later it went down better than I thought and I came to appreciate it. You put effort it and that will show up in the end.

My whole femslashficlets prompt table is kind of an exercise in 'that could have been better/longer' though despite what I just said.

IME, when you spend a lot of time on a difficult writing project, it's pretty common to feel frustrated and unsatisfied with it. It's like ayebydan said, it's probably just that you've been immersed in it so long. Some time away and coming back to it might change your mind about how good/bad it is. Personally, that's why I prefer to finish something and then let it sit for a few days or a week - untouched and unread! - and then go back and take another look.

Wrote for a fanfic contest once. I had such high hopes for the story, but even if my writing skills didn't suck ass, I was already going up against some fairly well known bnfs, so who was I kidding? I had some pretty good momentum going and I was pretty excited for the way the story could turn out. Just as I had started to run out of time, I hit a block. It sucked, because by the time I worked my way through it, I didn't have time to go back to make edits. The last two chapters were obvious drafts, but it was either keep it to myself or post it.

In retrospect, it would have been better to not post it. Not only did my story gum up the works for a solid week, but nobody aside from the judges even paid attention to it (I guess I should've written a much shorter story for a more popular fandom). Oh, and guess who -didn't- learn their lesson the following year? ¬_¬

I'm off work today, so I slept in an hour, then got up and ate breakfast (beans and rice, woot). I colored my hair (my natural color, just getting rid of the grays), showered and dressed and went to Ulta Beauty looking for specific things and of course they didn't have any of them. I picked up fried chicken takeout for lunch, got a boba tea, and went home. I ordered what I wanted from Ulta online, ate lunch, and now I'm watching The Force Awakens on TNT. I have work tomorrow but then I've got 3 days off in a row, yay!

went to a craft fair, was horrified by the number of mlms crowding out the actual crafters, then picked up real Halloween decorations elsewhere, came home and decorated

all in all productive enough for a sunday

Ate a brownie after lunch, went to the book store, read some magazines, stopped by the supermarket for sausages for dinner, and went home.

Basement flooded earlier in the week, so I've had a grand ol' weekend mucking it all out. On the downside, holy fucking shit my mom's a low-key hoarder. I found not one, not two, but THREE boxes of towels. TOWELS. Who needs this many towels?! And she's like, "oh but they're practically new, you'll want to switch out your towels eventually - how many years have you had them?" Like, sure, I'll switch out my towels, but THAT'LL STILL LEAVE 2 2/3 BOXES OF TOWELS.

On the upside, I have a car full of electronics to take to the recycling place. I've found two printers, two shredders, several cassette players, misc wires, old wired phones, a scanner, and a plethora of geriatric speakers. ...and three large boxes of VHS. Which is maybe only half of our total amount of VHS, but the recycling place charges by the pound for those and I don't want to go broke.

Drove to Dallas. Have a job interview in the morning. Honestly that's pretty much all I did today. It was not the longest drive, but ended up being about 5 hours. I'm just tired.

Just went to the doctor. Turns out they've been trying to get in touch for like two months.
I probably have PCOS, and I'm at increased risk of diabetes.

Given we just had my 17-year-old cat put to sleep because we didn't feel we could maintain his quality of life after a diagnosis of diabetes...

I'm having a pretty shit day.

I have frequent paranoid worries that people who know me either are currently or will one day be laughing behind my back that I'm a total lunatic. I am aware I am crazy. And I try my best to be a good person in spite of it.

But still I'm haunted by mental images of former writing partners, fandom friends and former classmates joking and laughing about how I'm totally insane and a mess.

How do I make it stop?

if my character gets stuck say behind a box or something and just doesn't seem to be able to jump, fight its way out and swapping characters doesn't help...is my whole level lost to me? sob

Probably. I've only ever played one Lego game but that was exactly what happened to me in Lego City Undercover.
