What is something someone recommended to you that you hated?

Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely was recommended to me as being like that fantasy YA vibe, but an improvement over Twilight. Uh, no it definitely wasn't. The writing itself wasn't as bad, but I couldn't get past the first book. Love interests forthe heroine ranged from douchey fae king with a rapey vibe to Perfect Goth Guy Wish Fulfillment Stereotype... no thanks.

A very good friend of mine whose sense of humor I'm usually right on the same wavelength as loves Community. I didn't think it was funny except for a couple of things John Oliver said.

Someone gave me their copies of The Mortal Instruments series. I HATED them but pretended to read them because they were her favorite books.

Witch Hunter Robin. I found it really boring and thought it moved as fast as a snail. (No offense to its fans.) I really wanted to finish watching so I could talk with them about it but I had to give up.

Someone I know unironically liked "Good Luck Chuck" and told me it was hilarious, though to be honest I still didn't watch it because it sounded so horrible.

Not really recommended, but I went to see License to Wed with a friend. I don't even remember what the movie was about, I even had to google the movie to remember the name, just that it was terrible. Except to my friend; she came out of the movie gushing, so I didn't have the heart to say "oh, I hated it," instead smiling and nodding along.

... that Christmas, she gives me the movie on DVD as a present. I guess she assumed I loved it as much as she did.

That Blood and Chocolate The Book would be better than the movie. No, it was just as bad. Or even worse in some areas.

The books that Game of Thrones is based on.

Mother of god that is some awful writing. I read one on a long train trip and I was laughing so hard at the sex scenes that tears were coming out of my eyes.

Why the fuck did they publish that? Has it been edited? If so, how much worse could it have been before?

So many questions.

I had a friend swear up and down to me that I would love SPN because I used to be head over heels for The X-Files. And I'd heard some good stuff, so I was pretty excited!

I loathed it. We marathoned it from the start, and she kept saying "no no it gets better, just hold on a bit longer, the first couple of seasons are pretty rough", which-- fair! The X-Files took a bit to find its feet too! But halfway through S6 I still hated everything about it, so I finally had to tap the fuck out. She was really mad, but like... damn, man.

Pretty much every Peter A David comic I've ever been told I should read - Young Justice, Supergirl, Aquaman, a story by him in a JL book... Ironically, the only one I've liked, I wasn't actually recced - his second X-Factor run. (Up until he aged up Layla and had her marry Madrox...)

Infamous because I love the superhero genre, now while the gameplay and powers were cool I hated every single main character and that tanked my ability to play it.

A couple people in my Beauty and the Beast-adjacent fandom were running around recommending A Court of Thorns and Roses everywhere. I remember almost nothing about the book except that it sucked big time.

A teacher who knew I loved fantasy loaned me a few Wheel of Time books.
There was just... s o m u c h torture porn. Most of it didn't even serve any purpose, that I could tell - it was just, 'oh, and here's another evil dude, look at him being evil, evil evil evil'. And I would immediately forget his name.

Gurren Lagann, Utena, Madoka, (hey I like Princess Tutu, but that's the only thing in that genre/writer style I liked), Sword Art Online, Full Metal Panic, & the second half of Bleach. Also most MMORPGs. I'm really picky about those. I wasn't too attached to Once Upon a Time. I tried to like it, there were things I liked about it, but it kept frustrating me too much to actually get an attachment.
