late comment is late

107. OH HELLO ARE YOU ME
gffffffffffffh

114. brb sobbing over character design

140. hahahahah that is the worst show EVER it's so abysmal
i love it

152. The faces are fucking disturbing. The only time Rolo was pretty was when he was dead, jeez

153. I love cousin Helen too ;^;.

But she IS a bit of an unrealistic goal. Especially considering she's meant to be in pain, and suffering all the time; it makes an unrealistic goal to aspire to, because sick people hurt and want to vent and be angry and human, and HElen isn't really human :( she's far too nice

162. I wanted to apply there but the only character I feel comfortabel roleplaying is an asexual puzzlephilic Englishman

165. This reminds me of this one time we went on a plane to America, and they played Aladdin as the inflight cartoon.
My dad: Excellent, that's exactly what I want to be reminded of
Me: Shut up you racist bastard

172. IS IT FLAPJACK

i read it and all I could think was
thurop thurop thurop

172

[identity profile] laytonmeme.livejournal.com 2008-09-02 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
wait no flapjack is too big
and thurop loves the slash anyway

147 -- Narnia and Susan

[identity profile] fondued-jicama.livejournal.com 2008-09-02 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
If anything, it's a criticism of Susan herself, seeing as how Lewis was highly religious and meant the books to be Christian-positive allegories, through which he worked out his own thoughts on the theology. It's painful and harsh, but it isn't a criticism of religion and it was never trying to be one.

And your argument doesn't really work, because Christ interacted with plenty of people who decided he wasn't God, even after meeting him; and Aslan is Christ. This makes Susan's reaction at least understandable from a Christian's POV, because we believe some people reacted similarly to Jesus.

I don't think I want to live in a world where that's a secret.

105. HSM and HSM2 were the corniest movies I had EVER seen, but I agree, after that scene, I could not stop thinking about how much Sharpay's brother and the guy were so hot together.

156

[identity profile] xmchord.livejournal.com 2008-09-02 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's one of my wishes too.

[identity profile] morinoe.livejournal.com 2008-09-02 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
152. I know what you mean. I like the way eyes are done and some of the art sometimes, but mostly some expressions are just too extreme. My icon, for example. (Granted, the character can be a fanboy sometimes, but still, he was just surprised in a good way.) Sometimes completley sane characters look just... psychotic. And sometimes they look so serious it's hilarious.

142. I can completely understand where you're coming from. My solution a few years back was a single, super-extrovert friend who was also in fandom. She was perfectly happy to drag me out now and then so I didn't become some sort of computer chair fungus, but she also understood that 90% of the time I'd rather be said fungus. It's not the same thing as socially awkward—I just don't feel as though I need people enough to reach out to them. It's a conscious effort, and if I need to think about it, I probably won't do it. She did the reaching for me, and didn't get needy when I didn't feel like doing anything. It was good.

Now I'm kind of stuck in Aloneville. I'm perfectly content (yay internet friends), but my family worries about me. *sigh*

Anyway, Anon, you should do what you feel comfortable with. If people don't understand, then that's their problem.

165. Either a troll, or someone utterly failed elementary school.

167. I can't help but think that reading slash is a bad reason to buck your religion, though I'm a slash fan. If it were because you believe in a cause, that would be awesome, but isn't the point of some things to give up things you enjoy because you believe they're wrong...?

If you really do disagree with the Church's stance on homosexuality, good for you! But if it's just for slash, then maybe you should inspect your attachment to your religion a bit more. (I'm going to be flamed for this, I know it.)

177

(Anonymous) 2008-09-02 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the exact same problem. And I hate it too.

(Anonymous) 2008-09-02 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
135 - ED IS LOVE! (How come I've never been on that site before!)

106: Based on my experience of playing Western RPGs, I prefer playing as a male character because female characters get sucky writing by comparison. In Western RPGs you usually have a choice whether to play as male or female, and the writers seem to assume that most players will play as male, so there are more side stories for male characters than females. (Worst example being Baldur's Gate II, where a male PC has three choices of love interest, while a female PC has one. One! I like Anomen, which not a lot of BG2 fans do, but it would have been nice to have a choice.) And when I played Knights of the Old Republic as a female, I kept getting distracted by the ridiculous amount of sway they put into the female PC's walk. I don't walk like that in real life! No woman does, unless she's a catwalk model!

So I've gotten into the habit of playing as a male, just to avoid those pitfalls. It's annoying, but what can you do? (Notable exception: I've never had any problem with the Elder Scrolls games. As far as I can tell, Morrowind and Oblivion are genuinely gender-neutral.)

126: Torchwood is a very stupid show that does not make sense on most levels. That doesn't make you stupid for liking it; the fact that you can tell that it doesn't make sense proves that.

147: In case you haven't seen it: Condensed His Dark Materials (http://wrongquestions.blogspot.com/2005/07/his-dark-materials-by-philip-pullman.html).

My problem with Pullman's argument is that he both stacks the deck and moves the goalposts, if you'll forgive the mixed metaphor.

151: You are, of course, correct. Persuasion is her best novel, and I salute your excellent taste.

186: TV Tropes is awesome like that, isn't it? I would never have watched Simoun or Lucky*Star without it. I probably would have gotten around to watching Revolutionary Girl Utena eventually, but TV Tropes gave me that extra push. For which I am very grateful.

133. OMG I LOVE THIS BAND SO MUCH AND NO, THERE IS NO FANDOM.

That band is the reason I started doing Civil War Reenactment.

OP

Then I imagine you must be as fond as "The Soldiering Life" as I am. :)

Ha. Our high school was supposed to do that musical this year, but it got canceled because of drama. I don;t like it too much, but I'm pleasantly surprised to see a secret about it

118. That would be hilarious. And EPIC.
122. Yeah, it is really sad. Plus, if he were real, he could kill you if you didn’t present some sort of advantage to him…
