Someone else ships it? Srsly? =D Yeah, it's silly to be in Recess fandom at all, but I thought I was the only one drowning in the endless sea of TJ/Spin fic.

I've shipped those two ever since that ballet episode. xD Thought it was the most obvious thing in the world. Now I don't feel so alone. =3

TL;DR: DUDE, I SHIP MIKEY/SPINELLI TOO~!

114. I totally agree <3 I RP with a Victor in a crack comm and that's pretty much all he does. It's epic.
149. I think I understand this, but...I really wish the ones who died prior to MGS4 had stuck around to be rendered in pretty PS3 graphics. PS3 Sniper Wolf would be amazing.
174. I think it would be. O'Biden is awesome. :3
178. AND I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE. Guess I didn't look hard enough for the AVGN estrogen brigade. Totally agreed!
183. I don't have an intense fear of dying, but...me too. I'd love a man as smart as him, and the understanding of fandom doesn't hurt either. He's sweet and cute too. <3

Not 114 OP

I HOPE that you are trolling. Badly.

If not, UHM. No means NO, you massive dumbshit. There's a huge difference between someone fantasizing about being raped by the Joker and sincerely not wanting a creep like you to molest them. That's why it's, you know, a fantasy, fandom, NOT real life. Do us all a favor and preemptively turn yourself into the cops, or take a day off to study the difference between fantasy and reality.

127: HELL YEAH BRUCE.

130: So, clearly we need Mohinder/Sylar/Matt/Maya!

143: But if you just want epic wank and don't really care about her either way, why not hope for a bigger death? Someone like Hiro or Sylar dying, now THAT would cause some epic wank.

Re: 106.

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-09-02 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not the OP, but my guess is that it's because male characters generally are given a complete personality, while female characters often tends to be this really icky image of the creator's ideal woman, complete with sey poses and skimpy clothing.

111. ME TOO. Except my friends were saying/thinking it too. xD

140. RECESS FTW! They do make a pretty adorable couple, now that you mention it. I'm kind of scared to look for fanfic because that show was basically my childhood...=/

188. <333333

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2008-09-01 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
106. To be honest I do see it as silly to let the gender of the maincharacter keep you from playing what could be (I keep on hoping) a great game and a great story. But I also know that tons of people have hangups others consider odd and is the most natural thing in the world to the ones who have them, so I shan't pass judgement.

118. ... Is this related to some episode where he does just that that I haven't seen or do you just... like Randy's voice that much?

123. I admit that I kind of do that to. Ship it a little, I mean, not the whole 'sleepwriting badfic' part.

144. I am reminded of Blackadder's words "I want to grow old and annoy people by pretending I'm deaf". Being a cranky, heckling old person with someone else WOULD be pretty damn boss, I must agree.

157. ... So out of curiosity, what series is the image from and what is the power here? Firing pingpongballs from their noses that induce temporary synesthesia in all they hit? Everything they look at with all those eyes must recite nursery rhymes until they run out of breath? Something even MORE cracky?

161. Truth to be told I wish it had been handled with a little more weight and consequence. Or that there will be repercussions SOMEHOW to walking through a gigantic 'Apocalypse Now'-levelstorm of magic. I admit that it DID kind of touch my wibble-buttons, but nothing as major as tears.

187. Hey now! How can you ship that you horrible horrible person, when all they will do is make each other even more unhappy!? You should only be shipping people who would be happy together, or else you are a bad person! Such is the opinion of the whole internet which tehrefore makes that the only right thing to think, and I am saying this solely due to my moral outrage and not because you have stepped on the toes of my Tigger/Eeyore agenda. Which does of course not exists. But it is the only right and pure pairing, just in case you are curious.

188. Agreed. So very much agreed. That ending is just... so unexpected and out of the blue, like... damn. Why would you DO that to little kids playing such a happy game, I just don't know...

146. Please be a troll.

147. Firstly, as a religious person, your reasons are precisely why I find the books completely unoffensive. Secondly, the Will/Lyra thing didn't squick me because it was clear that it was innocent love. Twelve-year-olds have been known to kiss. In fact, I've seen it myself at more than one summer camp. Those books are always a joy to read, even if they did overload my poor little nine-year-old brain the first time around.

147 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-09-01 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, in that when I was first reading them, it didn't even come to mind that the book could offend the religious for precisely this reason (I also enjoy Narnia); at the time I didn't know much about Phillip Pullman so I had no reason to have preconceptions about what the book was intended to say.

What bothered me about Will/Lyra was less the fact of the relationship and more that as much as I'd have liked to take it as innocent love, the terms in which it was described seemed extremely intense and passionate, in a way that made it feel disturbingly lustful. They don't just kiss: they violently grab hold of one another and press their faces together. There's the whole savoring the honey-like scent of her hair and the taste of her mouth thing. And then there's the end where they proclaim to love one another more than anybody has ever loved. All I could think was, "Oh, God, twelve-year-olds should not think that way about love."

Well, it may just be me.

142 - Hi there! I think we are quite similar. I *do* like hanging out with people - but not much. There were years when I spent several hours a day just chatting, and I found it to be a great waste of time. And I really don't like the type you are talking about - thankfully, I found some "friends" who understand that I do care about them in my own way - without talking every day or what. There are things you can't force on yourself, and you shouldn't. Though those secrets make me feel bad, too. But we are this type, the lone wondererers or what.
164 - Luke/Han is epic canon regardless of gender, but imagining Han as a girl makes me ship it, even. Thank you, this is an icredibly amazing and hot idea.

114. Dude, FFVII's Hojo would be perfect for you, then.

125. ...seriously? I mean, yeah, the show wasn't total shit like some people make it out to be, but "so much more warm and personable than any of the characters in the other series"? Seriously?

145. You're making me hungry, dammit. I haven't had good German food in FOREVER.

[identity profile] avianthropy.livejournal.com 2008-09-01 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Those are my favorite books, but AGREED SO MUCH that they fail at being atheist propaganda. I never saw them as condemning religion/Christianity as a whole at all (hello, last line in the last book?)

And actually, I never heard of anyone else having a problem with them until Pullman started talking about why he wrote them. I remember an article in the paper from waaaay back when that mentioned how amazing it was that a trilogy where the protagonist "kills God" had gotten hardly any criticism from religious groups and parents. Because back then, there were no wide-published interviews to tell us that the books weren't meant to be more than the interesting, harmless fantasy they read as.

So basically, I love the books because Pullman did it wrong and IMO accidentally created something much better than he intended.

Re: 147

[identity profile] trinity-destler.livejournal.com 2008-09-02 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I read them without knowing anything about them and thinking they were pure YA fantasy with no ulterior motives, but I found them pretty offensive. The church of the books is explicitly the Catholic Church and every religious person is evil; that's pretty fail (I'm not Catholic, but their portrayal in the books is grossly unfair). My biggest problem was that I didn't think they taught a healthy philosophy of life, especially for young children or adolescents.

It smacked too much of 'drink and be merry for tomorrow we die!' for my peace of mind. I got that loud and clear from the text without any preconceptions.

130, 139, 142, 143, 146, 167

(Anonymous) 2008-09-01 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
130. It used to kind of blow my mind how many different pairings and how much ship-related wank seems to center around Mohinder, given that he, in my opinion, is far and away THE MOST BORING CHARACTER ON THE SHOW. But now I wonder if maybe that's the point - that maybe, because he's so blah onscreen, people feel like they can easily mold him and insert him into whatever role they want opposite whatever character they want in order to fulfill their own fandom fantasies.

139. Aww. I love this secret.

142. Thank you for saying this. So many people don't seem to get that having a social life is not the be all, end all of human existence. And that not every unsocial person is a loser who lives in his/her parents' basement shoveling down Cheetos.

143. If it's wank you want, I think you'll be disappointed if/when it happens. Sure, there'll definitely be some from the people who shriek "OMG RACISM!!11!one!12" at every single move Kring makes, but mostly there'll just be a cry of delirious resounding joy from the fandom as a whole. (Also? That's kind of a pathetic reason for wanting a character to die.)

146. I'm hoping this is a troll, but if not, I hope you enjoy your prison time. Particularly the part where you get raped by all the guys bigger than you.

167. Yeah, you're real devout, I can tell. I can just feel the devoutness oozing from this secret.

130

(Anonymous) 2008-09-01 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I adore him, personally, but yes, that's also how I feel when reading fic about him. (Or felt. I gave up and stopped reading.) It's interesting, because I also always wondered why there were so many ships with him when he alone, as a character, has never been particularly popular. If by "interesting" you mean "stop fucking using him as a tool for your porn when you clearly don't give two shits about him".

Oh woe.
