That's just silly. Did you also refuse to play FF6? I'd also define FFXII's real protagonist (the character the story is about, as opposed to Vaan, who you just play as) as a girl. You're being silly.

104. Well it's a good thing you're both girls, then, because no-one's interested in tennis!femmeslash (at least not if you're not both players.) But hey, ENJOY YOUR PARANOIA.

[identity profile] savvy-sleek.livejournal.com 2008-09-01 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, I was thinking the same thing. No one writes (well, I haven't come across any, its probably out there though) femmeslash for tennis. And anyway, its only written about attractive players who actually get coverage from winning tournaments.

Am I the only one who thinks this secret *isn't* xenophobic?

If I thought that a certain story took place in a magical alternate world, then found out that it's just a forgien country - one that *doesn't* have that magic IRL - I'd be dissapointed too.

Re: 165

(Anonymous) 2008-09-01 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
If that were the reason, then they would have said "I was disappointed to find out it was set in our world". But since it's a troll, then no, that's not what they meant and the secret is xenophobic.

101. Reminded me of Avatar too. And then I felt racist.

103. ... sure.

106. Why should we be "open minded" about something as ridiculous and absurd as "I can not stand to play a female character?" It's stupid. And it's not exactly as arbitrary as if you refused to play games in which the main character has green hair, so yeah, I'd definitely say sexist attitudes are the basis.

146. Yeah right. That's bullshit. If FANDOM SECRETS is enough to make you indifferent to raping someone then you never fucking cared to begin with. GTFO.

167. Well you might be completely self-serving but at least you're kind of consistent with your beliefs.

177. It's not because of fanfiction.

187. THIS IS AWESOME

(Anonymous) 2008-09-02 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
106. Not necessarily. I might have interpreted the secret wrong, but from what I gathered, the OP just meant that she didn't want to play as female characters simply because she is female, and wanted to escape into a fantasy world where she could play as male characters.

I mean, don't get me wrong. It's a silly/stupid/word-of-choice secret, and she'll obviously be missing out on a lot of good games.

But I don't see anything inherently sexist about wanting to 'play pretend' only as male characters. The poster even said herself that she has nothing against female protagonists, she just doesn't wish to play as them. Isn't escaping from the real world the point of things like video games?

130. Not fair to say that a MattMo relationship would only be because of their respective daddy issues. It's Heroes, the Mecca of daddy issues, srsly.

140. OMGWTF RECESS SECRET!!!! Though I would ship TJ/Spinelli.

146: [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets: we make rapists, yay!

165: To be fair it's a screenplay based on old Arabian fairy tales, iirc, so it's no different than Beauty And The Beast (where the Disney version was placed in a world kinda-resembling France) or other geographically vague Dis. princess movies.

168. The writers were so squeeing themselves over their fire/ice stroke of genius for their fight in X3, y/y? All the while never realizing the amounts of slash that they would stir up in its wake.

103. I don't ship House/Wilson but this secret is pulling me over to that side. That would be devilishly brilliant.

132. Is that the singer from the N.Irish band Rare? I saw one of their videos back when Boston had a local Ireland-centric cable channel and I tried searching for info on them, but...do you know how fruitless it is to google "rare"? Yeah. But I've always wanted to hear more of their music.

138. I haven't seen this particular adaption (although Rufus Sewell makes the angels sing), but a few years ago I saw the RSC production with Jasper Britton as Petruchio that blew me away. They kept it period accurate and changed none of the text, but through the acting and staging brought out Petruchio's incredible grief over the death of his father and made him out to be just as damaged and in need of compassion as Kate. And then he and Kate found equals in each other and were each other's instrument of healing and love. It was fantastic, and it's all there in the text. So, seriously, yo, read the text. It's not a classic for nothing! :D

144. WHY, OP, WHY. Purple on red. How could you think that's a good idea?!

151. Totally agree with this secret, although I think that particular adaptation was a woefully pale shadow of the Ciaran Hinds/Amanda Root version.

156. Aw. :)

Not all of Christianity condemns homosexuality.

Odd, that, seeing as though the Bible is pretty clear about Christ's stance on homosexuality. Seems strange that one would claim to follow Christ, yet disagree with him on homosexuality. But I guess humans do have a nagging tendency to want to do things their own way.
