Sorry if we've had one recently, it's been a while since I've gotten here. (Work shift changed so I usually work late now.)

I sometimes wish I were one of those people who still had best friends from high school or earlier. I don't mean people I'm still in touch with and see once a year or once every five years, I mean people I still meet for coffee once a week. I know that's rare, but some people do have that, and I envy it a little.

I'm one of those lucky few, but they're my only set of close friends, so it makes me wonder sometimes if I've stagnated and haven't progressed as a person since high school. Grass is always greener, I guess.

I've known my best friend since high school, but I can't hang out with her as much as I'd like to because she's married with children. I know I'm very lucky to still have such a close relationship with my best friend, but I do feel a little lonely from time to time because she can't just drop everything to hang out with me and she's cancelled plans because her children are sick or her husband's working late (all totally justifiably reasons).

I can count on one hand with fingers left over the people I still keep in touch with at all from high school.

We moved around a lot when I was a kid and I've still moved at lot as an adult. I'm currently a couple thousand miles away from anybody I knew in person before I moved where I currently am.

I have one friend I stayed particularly close to and I do kind of miss talking to her on the phone/Internet as frequently as we used to...

same. I had to unfollow wholesome memes on reddit because it was just. we can all do with a little more nice in our lives but a constant stream of it became hollow. nothing felt inspirational anymore.

I'm just not a people person. And I don't have and have never had close friends. I've had friends and I've had acquaintances. But I've really only ever been super close with my family.

That's not the secret part because I know I'm not alone it that The secret part is that I don't care. I'm fine with it. In the past, I've felt the need to make closer friends just because I believed that was something I had to do and everyone told me I needed them. But I tried and tried and it never worked. And you know what, I've realized I'm happy without.

I have work, I have family, I have a few groups of acquaintances I hang out with occasionally. And that's it. And I'm cool with that. I like being alone. I actually wish I had more time alone if anything.

I want friends but at the same time, I’m doing ok being by myself I think. Interacting with other people is hard and tiring and whenever I go through a phase where I want to make friends very badly I second guess everything I say and do and feel extremely put out when I fail. (This can double as a fandom secret I guess?)

I have a hard time trusting other humans. Whenever someone says "you can talk to me about anything" or some other thing that society says you should say, I just think "yeah, right." Been burned by enough people to know that there is absolutely a limit on the topics allowed to be discussed.

It's weird because otherwise, I try not to think the worst of others. But something about making promises really triggers my bullshit button.

That sucks. I kind of feel the same way, except that it's not even that I distrust them. I believe they mean what they say but my brain tells me that I'm an exception and they won't listen to me because there's something about me that's fundamentally worse than other human beings.

Bouncing off that, I think I'm one of those people that looks very trustworthy? I feel like people are always unloading very personal/private gossip on me. The truth is I suck at keeping secrets, but insanely no one has caught on to that yet.

Same here. I can’t help but think that they’re just being polite, which means they don’t mean it, which means they’re lying. People say a lot of nice words and make a lot of nice promises that they don’t actually mean.

I'm probably more conservative than I originally thought I was. I don't believe that "trans women are women" or "abortion isn't murder" but I wish I did. Whenever I try to look up stuff to try to change my mind, I end up doubling down on my initial position.

I've found that the real reason the abortion debate breaks down, every single time, is that both sides fundamentally disagree on what a fetus is. Pro-lifers think it's basically already a baby. Pro-choicers think it's a non-sentient parasite.

Of course one side is going to balk at the idea of "killing a baby", while the other side balks at the idea that a clump of cells is somehow more important than a woman's freedom.

I respect anti-abortion people who are consistent about it. I don't agree, but I respect it. As long as you are full on pro-life. Meaning things like anti-death penalty, pro public assistance and other ways of helping the poor/needy people, pro contraception, pro- universal health care, pro-civil rights, anti-police culture that justifies murder. You can't call yourself pro-life if you stop caring when the child is born. And contraception is hands down the best way to lower abortion rates.

Also may I add that you don't get to decide who is and isn't a woman. You don't get to tell another person who they are. We already know that gender and sex are both fluid because there is no solid definition of what male and female means gender-wise and it differs for everyone and because intersex exists. So no, you don't get to say that trans women aren't women.

I acknowledge that it's a life ending, but I wouldn't call it murder. I liken it to terminating life support if a person isn't expected to recover. They are alive, but they can't really live without reliance on something, and they're not aware of their own fate.

It is different from murdering a baby. If you don't want a baby in my country, you have the option to leave them with someone and know that they will be safe. You have no reason to kill an unwanted child except that you're a fucking monster.

You can't opt out of having a fetus in the same way. You can't just give it to someone else to grow in their womb and wash your hands of it.

I tried to be open minded about the fat acceptance / HAES movement but a brief scroll through the blog my friend tried to get me to read about it was enough to make me so mad.

Giving people bad advice and telling them to ignore their doctors concerns because it's discrimination when they're honest about the fact that being obese puts you at risk for a multitude of problems? That's fucked up.

I couldn't read past a mother posting to assure her followers that she was going to ignore the diet the doctor prescribed for her child because she thinks diets are torture and mommy knows best.

I'm genuinely horrified that these people exist and it has nothing to do with their clothing size. They're insane.

In general I'm pretty pro-fat acceptance. I think that people can be healthy and fit at a pretty wide range of sizes.

But, I am soooo not a fan of the HAES movement. To me, it's like the anti-vaxx movement. It's totally anti-science. There's NO WAY to be healthy at the extreme ends of the scale. But it's like a weird mix of anti-vax and pro-ana/mia crap. It's enabling eating disorders while touting itself as, like, super scientific.

I think it's kinda hilarious how many "enbys" suddenly turn into women again as soon as a women-only-related event (like #visiblewomen on twitter etc.) rolls around.
And then I think "No, fuck off. You made such a big song and dance about being ~NOT A WOMAN (tm)~ so stick with it. You made your bed, now lie in it.".
